  1. Looks awesome. I would just tell the wife that you've incorporated more air circulation in the room having the bins thus lowering heating and cooling costs. Plus, with enough juice you may be able to fire small children out of them. Everybody wins.

  4. After a year of research on 2 channel amps, getting my purchase criterion together and budget, I have been chasing a Parasound A23. Several have been available at $850 to $1,300 Canadian to my house. Given my strong preference to buy in person, no deals and in fact none in Calgary. Then, yesterday one pops up on Canada Audio Mart for $650. I jumped and met the seller, a very nice brand new music grad, and got the amp. Young man has a really nice recording studio with all kinds of great gear and instruments. Perfect scenario! It pays to be patient. Edit: Same guy just posted a completed ACA on local Kijiji and a set of powered Dynaudio monitors. He must be cleaning house! He had a set of custom horn fronts and custom 12 inch sub, as well as a pair of "expensive" JBL monitors on stands. Along with 2 pianos, guitar and violin, plus Hypex Ncore amps (he convinced them to make a set for him!), DSP and mixing boards. All this behind a door that looked like a closet. Diffusers and and absorption panels he had made on walls, ceiling and floor. Not sure what else he might have to sell, but I am pretty sure I saw an older Parasound 6 channel amp in a corner too. Yikes.

  5. There is a lot going on in this pic and all I can focus on is the coffee mug on the LS! Get a coaster! (sorry deep rooted hostility carried over for someone I never met that owned my Belles before me) I will save this photo along with others I have found here on the forum to show my wife when she questions if this hobby has gone a little too far. Congrats

  6. They tilt back, since they are a trapezoid shape. Now the LS are in front of the tv with the mwm cabs flanking them. No BS...

  8. Finally, after many months, I will be able to get the dual woofer MWM cabs from the college whete I used to work. They were in a closet inside a classroom. Had th wait for classes to be kut so there could be easy access to the room. Then there was summer term, then camps. Have to get them tmorrow, preparation for students arrival for Fall term... they'll be too busy to get them out of the room. Crazy!

  9. Just say no, at our age the odd's of finally getting it really right without knowing what should be done or a good way of testing is pretty slim. Try a proven design and spend the rest of the time listening, it's easier.

  10. Don't too much urging. Having stupid thoughts of using some alternate construction techniques to make a set of stationary horns of concrete... double as lawn sculpture. It will never happen... but I think about stuff like that. I'm trying to get a grip on horn dynamics and I am a "hands on learner". I can read tech stuff... don't really understand until I see/feel it in action. oh there's some Altec bins and horns for sale on Phoenix cl. The tops reminded me of @Tarheel's LaScaltecs spent an hour showing a friend how those little carbs on 2-stroke power equipment fail. I dislike power equipment repair... a lot. Did it for a couple years. I get sick when I smell stale gas. That is an associative thing. And the smell clings, just to remind you. I get the same feeling when I smell gear lube, too. Bowling alley --- gearbox repairs. As I've gotten older, I don't enjoy working on cars either.... especially if it's mine. and then I told my friend to get a carb for his weedeater and I would help him put it on.

  11. Not followed them much lately....good for them!! I had a chance to meet George Foster a couple years ago, eating breakfast at a Wafflehouse in Hamilton (just north of Cincy). Nice guy, had a very attractive gal with him and when I shook his hand, I was amazed at ..... how soft it was. I would have expected some hard hands from slinging the bats around for so long. He must use Pamolive dish soap...

  15. Hope no one minds but I tried to take some pictures that would show off how great Klipsch did with the new design that allows the veneer grain pattern to flow continuesly on the cabinet. This is the right La Scala Right Side Top and Left Side Left Side Back Just like PWK intended ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Since weather was kind of crappy and muggy, my wife and I worked upstairs some today. I decided to put the Belle clones on the 15' wide "short wall" and I feel they sound better this way. I ran them on the VTA ST-70 for a little while but it's just too damn warm this time of year. I hooked up my fully rebuilt Carver M-200t which, rebuilt, is right at 140 wpc and it honestly sounds a little better on the Belles. Obviously its 4x the power, too, so it's coasting along pretty good. Moved some other things around but will post those later. But progress. With the tambor doors shut on the Barzillay cabinet. I love this thing and bought it maybe 13 years ago from the same retired Delta airlines pilot I bought the $500 1978 Walnut Klipschorns (that I had to unfortunately sell).

  17. Since being called up from AAA Louisville after the trade of Puig to try and earn the right field position he has hit 8hr in 11 games this season.. Also he was recorded at 104.1MPH on a throw from right field to second base for a put out. This video shows the first 7 home runs. Technically his career is 8 home runs for 12 games as he made an appearance in a game last season. This also includes 3 home runs in 3 consecutive innings in the same game.

  18. You could be left stranded.

  19. That's what I was thinking, and my LS crossovers would would probably not be as big an issue as is with the nominal 8 ohm load on the larger throats of the MWMs.

  20. I was wondering the same thing. I think the default configuration is to achieve max SPL from the pro amps, but for home stereo use, I would listen to them wired in series.

  21. You're saying that the cabinets are well preserved? Dear cecaa850 as a connoisseur of fine American speakers you can see yourself the cabinets are well preserved for 1940. I think the price is well for those and can be picked up in Bear, Delaware 19701 where bets82 can ship them, which am very close to where I live in West Virginia. If you buy them before I do, shall I pick them up for you until you can come to my house to get them?
    2 points
  22. That is my question. Of course, the wires from each speaker come out to a terminal block, where the default setup has them jumpered in parallel. My question is this: Does the throat on the MWM work the same as a LaScala and Klipschorn where the slot/horn combo causes the driver to have a higher impedance in the network? If not, can I run them in series so that my crossover will have an approximate 8 ohm load? I won't be able to go active for a little while... still gathering what I need for that. @JohnA @ClaudeJ1

  23. @parlophone1 You know, honestly, there are a lot of things the Quantum 3's do better than the Belle's....especially, and obviously, in the low end department. They for sure need more power than the Belle's but I don't listen at ear bleeding levels and my fully rebuilt Carver M-200t runs them quite well (rated at 120 wpc) and the same amp is running the Belle's, too. The mids and highs on the Q3's sound wonderful and are very balanced and there are 3 controls on the back to "line them out" to the room they're in. I gave $1 (one dollar) for the Q3's from the original owner who lived in the Dallas area and they are a pair I will never sell just because of the story behind them. I could easily live with the Quantum 3's and have nothing else. They are built quite well and weigh in at over 100-lbs each but could stand to have a couple of braces put inside. They are 1" thick MDF cabinets with real walnut veneer but Infinity didn't brace the insides probably thinking the cabinets wouldn't be that resonant with the thickness; they aren't too bad, though. So currently, they are in the forefront of what I'm listening to as I like having the fuller bottom end that the Belle's don't....especially with the music I listen to which is a fairly broad range. I also enjoy listening to the Cerwin Vega VS-150's because of their low end impact and they aren't the typical sounding CV speakers. Maybe when I get a sub to augment the Belle's and then they'll be more enjoyable than they already are.

  24. Wife and I were out last night, so nothing new. Haven't swapped connex from LS to MWMs yet. Need a question answered about impedance on the dual bins (MWMs). Default is two 4 ohm drivers in parallel, giving a two ohm load. My crossover might not like that without changes. Can't go actived yet. I just realized that the room is messy enough that I am now qualified to do high end speaker/equipment reviews.

  28. Many K402 main owners used the K510 that's in the 396 for surrounds and center. @AHall has them in modded Cornwalls for surround and a modded Heresy for center. I've been thinking of building a wall mount wedge surround with K510s, but I'll probably opt with staying married instead.

  30. Had help getting them in the truck... the help to get them out fizzled out... I pulled the fronts off and took the K43s out... that actually helped a lot. Got them into the house and back together all by myself. We'll see tomorrow if I did too much. Anyway, ramps and 4 wheel dollies are great. They are set up on end next to my LaScalas. ๐Ÿ™„ Bruce Bruce

  32. Thank you guys...I appreciate it. Definitely nice to have a room for my humble and mediocre setup. Hung some more album art with some frames I made maybe 12 years ago back in Texas. They've been stored at my best friends house for about 10 years now so it's nice to have them back. Also got my pair of Infinity Quantum 3's that I bought from the original owner in Dallas for......one dollar. I can never sell them because of the story behind them. And those Watkins woofers sound fantastic.

  41. Yes it takes in a single source, in my case Sat/Cable box, and outputs and amplifies the same signal to up to four outputs (I'm currently using 3). They make them with more than 4 if needed. I'm never working out in the gym, swimming in the pool and watching stuff in the theater at the same time, so no need for different channels on those various TVs. They all get the same channel from cable box. They do make switchers so you could have Blu-Ray in one location and TV in another but I simply needed the same input repeated, thus saving monthly fees from 3 boxes down to one. I've had two of the TVs on at the same time and both looked beautiful. Have not tried 3. Since the incoming signal is split and amplified I can't imagine running 1 versus many could have any impact. One small hiccup is that the cable box determines the sound so I have to use the remote's menu to switch from Dolby in the theater to PCM (standard TV speakers) for the outdoor TV. I already have Klipsch outdoor speakers for music outside, so longer term I might repurpose an old AVR and get a 3rd outdoor speaker then run the outdoor HDMI run out of the Atlona splitter to the AVR then AVR to TV, so I can have L/C/R outside vs TV speakers. Here is the Atlona 1 in 4 out HDMI splitter/amp https://atlona.com/product/at-ron-444/ Here is the Wyrestorm Extenders I used (lots on ebay but mind the model numbers). First post has the model number from Atlona that does NOT work with DirecTV genie if that matters to you. http://www.mridirect.com/pc_product_detail.asp?key=A0C753967B834BFDA1542BC2B10364E2 Here is the cat7 cable I purchased, very flexible and flat is nice if over the edge of a table, under carpet, etc. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Flat-Cat7-Ethernet-Patch-Cable-6-10-20-25-30-50-75-100-U-FTP-LAN-Black-Lot/333091965148?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=542122313505&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 EDIT: Here is a diagram of how the splitter works. If one or more of those 4 are a long way away you need what is in my 2nd link above. Two of my three TVs are just using a HDMI cable.

  42. Sorry for the confusion but here is what I should have quoted. It should have been a KPT-942 Based on the proven KPT-904-LF dual 15โ€ bass unit, the KPT-942 delivers powerful bass from a cabinet just 24โ€ deep. For high output combined with excellent coverage, the system uses a KPT-402-HF Tractrixยฎ horn with K-1132 2โ€ exit titanium compression driver to reproduce mid and high frequencies Dog gonnit this time maybe I have it right. Copy and paste is not your friend if you stick it there and don't check to see it is right.

  43. Love me some Joe, and at 36 I feel I'm one of his younger fans. I got the pleasure of seeing him and Petty during their 2017 tour. This video of him talking to Sweetwater about his new signature amp is worthwhile. Joe does indeed know his stuff. I especially like the part where he talks of the transformer not really being ideal from an engineering paper standpoint, but it just works in practice.
