  1. Our office was our grandsons bedroom, he stuck about 40 glow in the dark plastic stars on the ceiling when he was little, well we stuck them he just wanted them. They are still up there, when you turn out the light they still glow, he is 19 now, must be some pretty good glow stuff ? There is a company who does that and it's really nice but not cheap for the better ones with shooting stars and twinkling stars. one company http://www.star-panels.com/

  2. I am noticing more and more people who want ask questions about things like my tweeters who refuse to talk. We get into back and forth on emails and days pass and some progress is made but not as much as five minutes of phone time would do. The questions trickle in and then you answer and then the questions trickle back in and on and on it goes for days. I give them phone numbers to call and since they don't use them my assumption is that they do not want to talk to an actual human. At some point in time I just quit and say call me if you wish to continue this and then that is the last I hear from most of them. Have any of you noticed the same thing and how do you handle it? Personally I am getting to the point where if you cant pick up the phone and call me I am not going to spend hours with messages back and forth. I just don't understand people who live in text messages as their world and won't communicate in any other way.

  4. Bong maintenance? is there a such thing? I remember once going to a HUGE flea market with my Mom and Aunt. My aunt says, "Let's go over there, they're giving away free Bongs." I said, "Do you know what a bong is?" She said no but they're free.

  6. brewed an afternoon pot of coffee. Been a slug today. Wife woke with a sore throat and ..... she went to the Dr. Nothing serious. Ear infection/s... both ears. She was relieved.... me, too. She's napping. I'm being quiet. Not really. I'm in the doghouse, listening to music. Quiet is .... she can't hear me making noise I've had the house open all day. It was kinda fresh this AM... and we're only going for 80 - 85`. Dinner is ready. Leftover tuna/noodle casserole. Works for me. I've been thinking I am gonna put a pot of [pinto] beans on. Good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast, I serve them with scrambled egg and tortillas.... put a dollop of cottage cheese on the beans. Salsa, if you have some. That will carry you to lunch. Spose I should give patting tortillas a try. Too bad I don't have a big flat top. I do have cast iron pans. They will have to do. French tortillas [crepes] might be easier. There is a Hungarian version of crepes, too. The Hungarians prolly invented them...and the French claimed it. Like, we don't associate pasta with the Chinese.

  7. Hi, I had a big turntable in 1980, it turned like a Clock for 30 years, it was placed on 150Kg of concrete in a sandbox, the turntable weighs 60kg and the tray about 20kg, the whole must weigh about 250kg (550 lbs) and I had a LURNE arm and an AT33E cell, which I listen to with this material. I also change the oil, but more often, every 2 or 3 months because the pressure on the unipivot is enormous: so you need clean, new oil at this location. The turntable is now in my garage, it will take a day that I have the courage to repaint it brand and new turn it again! The MINIMUM had replaced a superb Linn LP12 that I had before, I see we like the same material Hi-Fi guys 🤣 Unfortunately I do not have a photo with the arm and the cell, when the stage was beautiful, with a superb painting and without dust About 10 years ago, I gave the documents to Vinyl Engine so that they could put them on their site. Here you can download the essay and the explanations of the turntable, review passed in the Audiophile in French in 1979 : Downloads > information https://www.vinylengine.com/library/audiomeca-pierre-lurne/minimum.shtml @JohnJ I am extremely jealous of your treasure trove of LPs 🤤

  8. I have owned this TT for a good 38 years. It is from the legendary Japanese manufacturer " MICRO SEIKI ". The model is called DQX 500 S. Every 2 years I change the oil for the disc drive and for the tonearm lift every 5 years. It is quartz controlled and has a direct drive. In addition, I have MM / MC / transistor phono preamplifiers and also phono tube preamplifiers. I use exclusively Moving Iron systems from Grado, Soundsmith, Nagaoka and Osawa JohnJ`s TT is a Pro-Ject with an 9cc Carbon Tonearm and a Audio Technica AT33 Cardridge. He´s using a Pro-Ject DS II Tube Phono Pre Amplifier. @JohnJ Correct me if I'm wrong.

  12. Cool, don't play mine as often anymore, which made it so impressive last week for me! I've always had the suspicion that Mr. Parsons had a hand in the mastering of his Project's releases. I mean he was the jedi - engineer for DSOTM. He had to have had some clout with his peers! Got these cleaned up yesterday, it's too wet to cut the yard that is getting pretty deep after ten days. Didn't do laundry yesterday so I think I'm gonna listen and fold this morning. I've remarked in the past here that the 70's rock was the best to me with exceptions of course. Never felt like a lucky person but darn...... first the tt deal a while back, now this radio stations worth of vinyl that I've anticipated for a few months. I'm flipping out here, good thing I've got my coreg and a slightly more reasonable attitude going on in this decade of my life! I had the good to me heavy stuff covered before, now the basics are filling in too. Storage is quickly becoming something to keep an eye peeled for! Got one crate full of replaced records and 80s hair band stuff that hasn't been played in too long. Used record store might open back up by mid summer. Hope it does.

  13. It's software installed on a computer, that organizes your music and plays it back over just about any connected device. Mine is an old laptop on a network that is mostly hard wired. Multiple music systems and a phone or computer to interact with it. It doesn't really plug into one device so much as it sees every device and enhances them. Roon has 3 "things" core, control and outputs. Core is the brain you only need one. Install and forget about it. Control is how you use it, phone laptop, desktop, tablet the thing you browse your music and interact with. You could have one or many. Outputs are your music devices. DAC, streamer, Blu-ray player, computer, phone, TV, AVR It could be as simple as all 3 of those things on one computer. You browse your music on the app, the software curates it for you and plays back via your computers speakers. Mine is throughout my entire house. I've got wireless speakers in the form of Sonos in kitchen, bedroom, deck, out at the pool. I've got a 5.1 system in my living room and a dedicated HT/music room with 7.1 in my basement. Roon now controls them all rather than multiple systems, remotes/apps. You can buy a purpose built device to run core or install it on a old computer you probably already have. I'm running it on an old laptop circa 2012. My music files are on NAS on a home network. Most of the network is older cat 5e cable and some wireless devices. You point core to your music files and subscription services. It sets up just as beautifully/easily as you use it. Super intuitive. It updates and backups itself. You sit back, forget about tech-shit and get back to enjoying music, but now you have a personal assistant that is at your beck and call to endlessly delight you with all thing that matter about *YOUR* particular music collection. Not bland, generic data but entertaining tidbits you never even dreamed were at your fingertips. It's the single best thing to happen to music since the electric guitar....if you care about music. If you just want noise while you are going about your business.... probably not for you. For me it is a substitute for reading a book, watching TV or even exercising. It's a total time suck in best possible way.

  15. Mr @JL Sargent I know your not in Georgia but right next door. I seen this in the news and it was quite a surprise, I did not think they could make it through the winter. https://www.yahoo.com/news/georgia-officials-trying-stop-large-184645807.html Georgia officials trying to stop large, invasive lizard that eats 'anything they want' An invasive lizard that grows up to four-and-a-half feet long is causing concern for Georgia wildlife officials who are attempting to eradicate it from the state after years of sightings. "They eat just about anything they want," said Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife biologist John Jensen in a May 8 video about the Argentine black and white tegu. While the lizards have not been a threat to humans and common household pets, Georgia officials say people should avoid leaving pet foods outside, as it can attract the lizard. They are not known for being aggressive towards humans, although sometimes they may chase people. The reptiles grow large, reproduce fast and eat a wide variety of things, from fruit to eggs, birds and small mammals. Tegus pose a threat to native wildlife, including gopher tortoises, a candidate for Endangered Species Act listing. They have been documented using gopher tortoise burrows and eating tortoise eggs and the young. Jensen said the DNR is setting traps for the reptiles and asking for sightings to be reported. But "if you're able to safely and humanely dispatch of the animal, we encourage that," Jensen said. This marks the third year the lizards have been trapped in southern Georgia, the Orianne Society said in a Monday Facebook post. Tegus have been causing problems in Florida for years. They are popular in the pet trade but trouble when released in the wild. In Georgia's Toombs and western Tattnall counties, the lizards have been spotted crossing dirt roads, have turned up on game cams and even gotten trapped in a farmer’s shop. If tegus are reproducing in the wild, catching them early is crucial. Once established, as with Florida’s two known populations, the only effective response is trying to stem their numbers and spread.

  20. I don't like talking on the phone. My hearing is bad enough that I may not hear you, or I may hear you wrong. On top of that, my memory leaves a lot to be desired. I may get off the phone and not remember half of the conversation. With texts, I have something I can re-read. And if I'm texting you, you can't hear me peeing!

  21. If population control is the aim, there already exist much deadlier viruses they could have unleashed. This Covid virus is pretty lame and will hardly dent the population - so much so, that people are saying it's fake news and demanding to be permitted to open their businesses and mingle out and about.

  22. Of course. Just like a magic trick, there is almost always a misdirection. Lets really think outside the box. Possibly our Planet received a warning. Think about it. Warren Buffet says Air travel will never be at the level it was at 2019 ever again. Companies were pushed to realize they can function electronically. No more un-needed business getaways or company gatherings. Get in your homes, get on your phone, order your delivery groceries because we dont need an intrusive chip inserted in you, we have conditioned you to keep that smart phone at your hip. By the way, we can now see who you interact with and everyone that comes in your proximity via you phone and our new monitoring laws. Oh dont worry, If you leave your phone at home, our new face recog cameras will keep us within arms reach. But wait, theres more! We really want you to like yourself and to be who you're not. Here is that photo app Mom. YES! Face enhanced, makes you look 20 years younger for all your friends to oogle over! You are wonderful, you are not ugly, you are not you now, lets just fool everyone. We are being not only divided, but physically isolated from social interaction Its insane what it was like to go in to eat somewhere and see a family of four all sitting there staring at their phones. Does anyone think this is going to suddenly stop or increase ? Yeah right. We are all being plugged in and the once insane thoughts of us all being part machine, part human are here already

  25. Yes the Bluesound Node 2i has two built in DACs and they sound pretty good but I decided to try the Micromega DAC I already owned and it sounded pretty much the same as the built in DACs in the Node2i. I bypassed the Node2i DACs and replaced the Micromega with an R2R Denefrips Pontus DAC and to my ears it makes the entire system have even better synergy. I think that synergy in a system is critical. Building my system has been Forte Speakers and HSU Sub first. I then added the hybrid Mac MA252 Integrated before trading that for my 100% Tube Integrated.Primaluna EVO 400 amp. I then added my turntable and phono preamp before getting the Node2i and then my Denefrips Pontus and its all finally come together.

  32. I asked my uncle once why he didn't wear seat belts. He said, "I may get into an accident and the seatbelt could save my life and then I'd encounter all kinds of things in life that I'm not really interested in." I'm at peace for whenever I go. hopefully it will be in my sleep like my grandpa and not like the screaming passengers that were riding in the car with him. When it gets near, I just hope that I go peacefully and not fighting to live every last minute. I don't believe this life is all there is, so I'm actually okay when my number is called. Was talking to friend once about healthy eating and such, I told him when I die, I'm going to Heaven so it's not a concern for me. He said, "you're presupposing that the first heart attack kills you." when I was younger I didn't think much about growing old, so now that I'm here, I don't know what to think of it.

  33. From what I understand there are variations of flu every season. The shots are “designed” for what the epidemiologists believe to be the strain for the season. Sometimes they guess right, sometime not. I believe the one I got this year was for four or five different strains of the flu. Beyond that - ?

  37. Lots of ways to skin this cat. I have two identical servers in a rack in my temperature controlled garage office. One is a storage server for all of my NAS and media needs. The other is just running Windows Server 2019 (as of this moment. Was running ESXI last month). In my audio rack in the house I have a raspberry pi4 running RopieeeXL with the hifiberry digi+ pro for digital coaxial output straight into the AES/EBU input of my Yamaha SP2060. So I've got the music stored on my NAS. Roon server is running on the 2019 box, as is HQPlayer. Roon sends the signal locally to HQP for resampling. Then HQP sends the PCM signal over to the raspberry pi and on to the digital XO. Since there's no preamp in this signal chain I use the software volume control within Roon. I control everything from the Roon app available on iOS, windows (laptop), etc. Except for the control devices, everything is hardwired over gigabit ethernet. The server config you see below is absolute overkill. I've got the server mostly idling on other tasks, and even with conversion from uncompressed wav files over to upsampled PCM it's barely touching the CPU/RAM. It was a proof of concept - A1UC spent a shitload of money on a dedicated device with similar specs to run the Roon server function in his audio rack and i wanted to see what impact such a configuration might have. My gear is out of the building entirely, so I don't have to worry about expensive boutique cooling and noise reduction efforts - fundamentally the performance is the same and my endpoint is so far removed from the signal processing chain that there's no impact there. And since I've got the gear not being used for anything else at the moment I've just decided to leave it in place and use it for a bit, even though it's overkill.

  41. I originally thought like @artto it was more or less enhanced cover art. It is endless data and information. Each artist/album/track you select has a wealth of info you never even imagined existed. Think Wikipedia for all your music but with the slickest User Experience you have ever, well....experienced. Ever find yourself flipping through the channels and see a program about a band and then realize you wasted an hour listening to how the put down the tracks and who the producer was and why they fought over lunch in the control room? In addition to the artist and history lessons, how about knowing what is happening to your precious music as it moves from one piece of gear to another? Give this link just a cursory 5 minute skimming: https://kb.roonlabs.com/Signal_Path Everything is very friendly and intuitive. Its one of those rare things in life that just works and makes you smile.....like beer. It has a "discovery" feature that I defy any true music lover has the ability to not say "Oh my god that is effin' cool"

  42. "Besides the price, what is Roon's most important advantage compared to a Qobuz or Tidal or Spotify subscription?" I personally haven't used Roon yet. But from I understand (so far) is Roon ties all the apps, subscriptions and any other online media or your local area network files from computers or other servers, it ties them all together to be accessed/controlled from one place (Roon). Roon apparently goes out and collects all the pertinent metadata and organizes it for you (your media). For those who miss the cover art and other written documentation that was originally supplied on LP, and to a lesser extent, CD, Roon (I think) pulls all that together for you automatically, seamlessly in one place. Personally, I think the subscription sources will eventually have all this too. I've only had Tidal for a year and there have been lots of changes/improvements. The search function can still be a bugaboo. It's not "smart" enough yet. Sometimes I have to word the search in a very specific way to find something because of the way it's categorized/catalogued and not cross referenced. If I type in "Telarc" for instance to see all Telarc recordings nothing correct comes up. Same thing with "Tricycle". Tricycle Flim & the BB's is not going to come up. If you misspell "Flim" & the BB's as Film & the BB's - nothing.

  43. It's meant for your personal music library? the subscription services are merely streaming augmentations to fill the gaps. If you don't have a personal digital library, there's no reason to deploy Roon.

  45. Today Steve Guttenberg the Audiophiliac posted a link on his YouTube channel to a free download of high quality audiophile recordings that are very very good sounding. Minimal production two microphone, two track, uncompressed recordings of some interesting jazz and ethnic stuff. There's twelve tracks and the files are 44.1/16bit wav. Worth a listen and a good work out for your system.
