  2. I recently purchased an elliptrac horn kit from Dave Harris and coupled it with a Faital HF200 2” driver and Dave Ault’s smahl horn/lens and B&C DE120 drivers. Stock K-33’s in the bottom. I’m considering the Crites woofers atm. I CNC cut a new motorboard and made two new sides retaining the top and bottom of the “top hat”. The motorboard and sides are faced with polished finish black laminate. The left and right sides of the motor boards are laminated with copper. I’m using a bi amp set up with a DBX driverack 2x6 feeding my sub, the mains woofers and ALK crossovers for the mf/Hf. Amps are all Crown, XLS2502, XLI1800 and D-75. the sound is amazing to me, better high frequency and wider soundstage. I’ve alway loved my K horns and this is such an improvement in sound and can be returned to original form if/when desired.

  7. land of surgically enhanced women. speaking of ... why do women get work done on their faces? has their even been a face lift that turned out well? I get the boob jobs and liposuction; but stay away from the face and PLEASE stop this puffy lip fad -- it's hideous. (before @DizRotus reads this, I am not getting these procedures, I meant I understand). sorry for the rant ... you can return to your regularly scheduled program.

  8. mornin' all Happy to hear your thing went well, Dave I guess we have a skunk making the rounds the pasted few days -- including this AM. No guessing, really. Not in the yard. More like a person that wears too much cologne. Residual. PU. A strong whiff and gone. Lots of flies in the house yesterday... Took a scene from Tommy Boy to fix. Rather than trying to swat them all, I got out the vacuum. LOL Getting a "break" [not that we wanted one] from the rains and into excessive heat. Glad I'm not in Phoenix or Tucson. Does give me an excuse for being excessively lazy, though.

  10. This was originally written by someone about Facebook; but I see many similarities to the Klipsch forum. Q: How many people does it take to change a lightbulb on Facebook? 1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed. 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently. 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs. 17 purists who use candles and are offended by light bulb discussions. 6 to argue over whether it’s ‘lightbulb’ or ‘light bulb’. Another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid. 22 to tell THOSE 6 to stop being jackasses. 2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is ‘lamp’. 15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that ‘light bulb’ is perfectly correct. 249 to post meme’s and gif’s. 19 to post that this page is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a light bulb page. 11 to defend the posting to this page saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant here. 16 to post ‘Following’. 36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty. 7 to ask if the brands of light bulbs used are worth the money. 19 to tell them that if they like the light bulbs, buy them. 5 People to post pics of their own light bulbs. 15 People to post “I can’t see S$%^!” and use their own light bulbs. 7 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs. 4 to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URLs. 13 to comment “Me too”. 5 to post to the page that they will no longer post or are leaving because they cannot handle the $!%cking light bulb controversy. 6 to report the post or PM an admin because someone said “f÷×$” 22 to ask if there is a flounce in progress. 349 to post flounce memes. 4 to say “Didn’t we go through this already a short time ago?”. 13 to say “Do a search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs”. 1 to bring politics into the discussion by adding that (insert politician of choice) isn’t the brightest bulb. 4 more to get into personal attacks over their political views. 5 admins to ban the light bulb posters who took it all too seriously. 1 late arrival to comment on the original post 6 months later and start it all over again.

  12. I'm in the process of re-burning my tube monos. I have soldered new preamplifier KEMET ( + / - 2% ) capacitors, because a mono amplifier began to strongly noise. So, that I have no audible differences, I had to do this of course with both. Now there is peace again and the noise is gone.

  20. Hey it's working again! I was about to call it quits when this place wouldn't let me do squat yesterday except to log in and out. Know it's late to the tropical party but.... pulled a rubbermaid out of the shed the other day `cause it said cold clothes on the tape on top I was looking for my flannels and sweatshirts and one jacket because it does snow down here more than I'm used to back in my old town. But... it was full of short sleeve hanging stuff, I've got my t-shirts so don't need that but I hung them up until we go back there tomorrow. Here's the shirt that my mom told me her heartthrob was wearing driving the red Ferrari in HI on tv. *Think a lid got swapped! Not really working right but it's better in here.

  22. This morning, at six o'clock, while listening to Springsteen's Born to Run on vinyl - that's why I put 'maniac' after 'Melo' in my name here - I realized something: every single item in my main system is either b-stock, open box, promotion or used. Kings of it all are, of course, my 1972 Heresy speakers. But then the CS300 (used), my Pro-Ject turntable (retails at +400 euro, I bought it closed box at reduced price for 180 euro), iFi Zen Phono (open box, retail €189 (vs €124 I paid), Marantz CD5005 (€250 vs open box €160), and my latest purchase, a Beyerdynamic headphone DT990 Pro (€139 vs 124). Every piece here, I really wanted, and I purchased it after doing a lot of research (or getting advice here on the Klipsch forum). After putting the order, I find it exciting to wait for delivery, and I must say I've never been disappointed. Every item I purchased like that was always in excellent order. Even when the description says 'minor signs of use', they are just fine. It makes me wonder why the original buyer sent it back. What did he or she not like about it? The headphone is 250 ohm, and does not work well with smartphones (volume is low), so I can imagine that explains why I got to choose from eight (!) b-stock items of that headphone in one and the same shop. Another explanation would be that people order multiple brands of piece of gear, test them and then only keep the one they like the best for their system. I've never done this myself, I guess I'm getting old... Anyhow, great opportunities are out there for music lovers on a budget and shopkeepers should know that selling b-stock of good quality (and keeping up a reliable evaluation system to grade their b-stock) in the long run will be rewarding because they build on good reputation, and it is good for the environment. Note: I was shocked to learn that Amazon UK was dumping returned goods in landfills (after shredding them), rather than re-selling them as open-box. In the UK alone, there are 27 of these dumping facilities. Their explanation was that it was often cheaper than processing returned goods and trying to sell them again. Also, a marketseller at Amazon, apparently, must pay Amazon for shelf-space quite a lot, and often, the seller therefore will ask Amazon the destroy returned goods. After huge upset over this in the press, Amazon has now promissed no longer to do this, are at least, to re-evaluate this practice.

  23. Hi, I have both new and used : - Turtable Teac TN550 : new in 2016 / box sealed by factory - Cartridge AT VM740ML : new in 2019 / box sealed by factory - CDs TASCAM CD200-SB : new in 2020 / box sealed by factory - DAB+ / Spotify / FM / Net Radio ... Majority Fitzwilliam : new in 2019 / box sealed by factory - Preamplifier McIntosh C504 : used in 1999 - Amplifier CARY SLi50 : equipment on display in store in 1998 - Amplifier PAS audio 2002PCA : new in 2021 / box sealed by factory - Klipsch Cornwall CWIII : new in 2016 > Purchased in Germany, Unopened boxes, sealed by the Hope factory - BeyerDynamic DT990 : new in 2020 / box sealed by factory For the most part, even if they were closed by the factory I took advantage of good promotions and reduced prices: for example the Tascam CD200-SB cost around 420 € in Europe, I bought mine at 347 € delivered my house. The new, closed AT VM740ML cartridge: price in store when purchasing 329 € paid in promotion less than 250 € delivered to me. Ditto for the Klipsch Cornwall III, at the time in 2016 cost around 5000 € the pair, then a few months after my purchase 6000 € here in Europe, I found mine delivered to my door for 3020 € the new pair and sealed by Hope factory, they still had the protective film from the official German importer: OSIRIS AUDIO AG. On the other hand I agreed to pay the normal price of 589 € for my new PAS audio 2002PCA amplifier, because there is only one seller in Europe and anyway the HiFi amps are equivalent in sound quality and power are worth 2, 3 or even 4 times its price, so even at full price it's a good deal.

  30. since you cats are generally all hopped up on coffee, hopefully your brains are working better than mine. When I hover over my avatar, a box opens and it shows Post, Reputation, and Badges. What they heck are badges? Not that I want one; but I don't have any. And it says I have to get so many points before I'm at the next level (Currently level 8/9), I wasn't aware that we were earning points ... does points in this regard mean posts?

  35. I took the covers off for cleaning, which brought up a couple more questions; The Cornwall I’s seem to be made from plywood rather than MDF. As a sometime carpenter, I actually prefer plywood. All later Heritage series are MDF, right? Why did they switch from plywood to MDF? How are woofers measured? I believe the Cornwalls are supposed to have 15” woofers. The opening in the motor board measures 13 1/4”. Thanks Bob

  38. Yes, in Europe Aldi sell vinyl albums also, a couple of times per year. I bought Back to Black and Nirvana there. In Belgium their price is €14.99, which is mostly, but not always, beneath online prices. They also sell a dirt cheap turntable with a pretty good needle. I think it is a rebranded Rega with USB.

  42. I didn't know about the customer resistance issue with the Jericho series (which really is a big step forward in commercial sound). But I'd wondered if that was the reason why that series hadn't taken over that market sector. Tom is an experimentalist (thank goodness) that first builds and measures the phenomenon before he lets the theory inform him of the "why". I think a lot of design nowadays is frozen in terms of innovation because we don't have more engineers like Tom. _____________________________________________________ If you take an SH-50 apart and measure each "way", with and without crossover networks, you get to see some things that are not commonly known. After doing that exercise with the SH-50 that I still own, I found some things that will never allow me to look at loudspeaker design the same way again. I'll not steal Tom's thunder, but I have to say that it isn't what many people think it is (i.e., the "Synergy" crossover filter design). It changed my outlook completely. Chris
