Hello strangers, feels like longer than a week since I've been here. Willie my isp texted me today and stated "You might have an internet problem" blah blah blah. Called them and they scheduled to come out an hour later, then he broke the internet here... Another tech comes out a couple hours later and it is all good now... squirrels chew the lines. he said they must get a jolt from the voltage in it but they do it anyhow. Yea I recall being a teen! "Kicks Just Keep Gettin' Harder to Find!" Happy Thanksgiving Boys and Girls! Got half my Thanksgiving ready to reheat tomorrow... the 13 lb bird is funny looking, had to put it back in to get it to 165. At least there is a ham, bread and pumpkin pie coming with them tomorrow. Potatos and corn will be easy to cook while this is reheating.3 points

Not a wood guy, but ...... Once you apply urethane, the party is over for doing anything else to the wood without stripping. What's a party with out strippers.... My two cents.2 points

Do NOT do anything inside the amplifier unless you have experience. Please believe that it's possible to get a bad shock, even if your amp is powered down and unplugged. If you're sending it out for help -- that is a smart move. I've seen all too often here over many years when members are told to look at this, or look at that -- or test this or that -- without telling the owner of the component that it can be extremely dangerous to mess around with vacuum tube stuff where high voltages are present. Looking out for HT is good advice, which, BTW, has nothing to do with Home Theater. Happy Thanks giving, erik2 points

After my sister yelled at me for half an hour on the phone to stop hoarding I decided to take a look around to see if there really was something I could part with. Maybe make some room for more audio gear ...... Why not start with perishables ............ Canned food is forever unless it swells up, better in cool dark spaces like the low humidity basement. Whole grain like wheat was germinated after 10 years, 10 out of 10 seeds grew roots on a paper towel test. Grain was stored in a sealed food container with nitrogen gas. Same applies for Legumes. My legumes are sitting in the original plastic bags, I may germinate a few out of curiosity. Meat or other in a Freezer is forever as I understand it, unless the power goes out ..... Freezer with auto defrost is only 6 months at best. My doomsday supply of Bevita cookies individual wrappers dated 9-2020. Smell like glue, ate 1 and didn't die yet. Feeding the rest to the birds or mice on my back patio. 10 year old bag of rice krispies, goes directly to the animals Same for the box of unopened Life cereal, 2007. Next will be moving on to my doomsday pasta supply, plastic bagged in original boxes to keep the creepy crawlers out. MIL was radiating food, that lasted forever. Don't know what happened to that tech. Then there is the stuff in 10-25 year storage buckets. My brother sampled his 10-15 year old meals and tossed them out, now replaced. Don't know if he sampled the replacements ...... On Deck: the shed and basement Basement was doing well until I connected the old Duel turntable Added 3,500 LPs since then.....1 point

I picked up a real beater pair of LaScalas cheap, the cabinets are in good shape, but the woofers, horns and crossover were all changed to various unknown garbage. I plan on refurbishing them in the near future and am slowly picking up the required pieces. Found someone local selling these for a great price: 15" Eminence HiFi Woofer #15797. Any chance this particular woofer could be a suitable substitute to the k-33? See the screen capture for details. I know it's a little thin on parameters, so I haven't got much hope. Scouring the web unfortunately did not help. Many thanks!1 point

I'd be surprised if the polish worked it's way to bottom of the veneer. Wax can be removed with spirits and some fine wirewool.1 point

In the beginning.... The dreamers waxed excitedly about building global communities, democratization of everything, and opening up the world to all voices. And then hucksters and pirates moved in to use it for mass behavior modification and training the population to consume more. Then the reality of what "community" actually means set in, and the new owners didn't like it at all. Real "communities" are not like Disney fantasy villages, they are far more messy. There are lots of kinds and styles of interaction and relationships - good and bad. There are lots of noisy disagreements, bar stool conversations, ideological bantering, and too many variables to control. The "town square" no longer fit neatly into establishment values. Enter the various "clamp downs" "cram downs" "cancellations" and my favorite euphemism - "de-platforming." All ownership eyes turned to the idea of Disneyfication of every property and every messy town square. Consider what YouTube has become from what it once was. Is the Internet worth saving just so people can shop in their PJ's at 3:00 a.m., and hear "news of the establishment pied-pipers?" Or should it just die off like what is happening to broadcast TV?1 point

With my bedroom system (Yamaha RX-V750 AVR), plugging in headphones cuts out the speakers, but since the subwoofers are fed by the Pre Out terminals, they stay active. The first time I plugged in the phones, I was really impressed with the bass response, then I took them off and realized that the subs were playing pretty loud. If you’re not disturbing anyone, it’s a pretty cool effect.1 point

You've got a good start. I remember "Kicks" - Paul Revere and the Raiders I made a loaf of herbed bread for stuffing, yesterday. I don't think I'm gonna use it for dressing. It came out too good. Plus, I am fond of my basic recipe. I/we have no idea who or how many or when things will happen tomorrow. I know pumpkin pies are made. I did that today It will prolly be the wife and SIL....then the boy and extended family trailing through the evening. UArizona made a good game of the Maui championship. They were in a position to turn it into a bloout... but NOOOOOO. enjoyed watching it.1 point

Some notes here. The AVR-960H is not 90W all channels driven. I believe it's either 1 or 2 channels only. Most AVR's will not deliver their WPC rating advertised, double check specs. It is 90W x2, at 5 channels it is likely closer to 35-45, and at 7 it is probably closer to 20-30 (it has 500 W total power, which means it can not exceed 70WPC all channels driven, assuming it was doing nothing else but driving speakers - which is not the case). Klipsch speakers do not need much power, but the cleanliness is the deciding issue. Highly recommend an AVR-X series from Denon at minimum - especially for RP series. They will still be under the maximum continuous output of the Klipsch, but you don't necessarily need to meet that figure anyway.1 point

Picked up a nice lil 24" minty Stihl Chainsaw from a woman having a garage sale. $50 I asked what was wrong with it and she said her husband couldn't start it. She said he wasn't home but I could stop back tomorrow and talk to him about it. I paid her and ran! Change the plug and yank it!1 point

Yes, that and the "old hoarder"... Would love to get more Genesis and Yes on vinly, but their LPs hardly turn up on forum sales, same as Queen and Gary Moore. Everybody looks for those... I´ve been very lucky with this stash. There´s still some more to come.1 point

Welcome back George! Sounds like you survived that whirlwind tour again. @grasshopperNo phone service wouldn't bother me. Low tech is the way to go on just about everything IF you can find what your looking for. These places today are taking everyone another place even though they don't want to go there. Chainsaws? The kid next door is an electrical engineer so everything he buys is electric. He was out trimming bushes then blowing the yard w/battery operated tools. I did see Stihl had an electric model out. Just crazy to even think about using an electric chainsaw. George would prolly approve since Stihl is a German company. It's all I run and no problemo's so far. There is the tried and true ax yanno.1 point

getting back to basics Made bread today. Came out good, again. Guess I've got a handle on bread by hand. Next challenge is tortillas. Many years ago, a friend's grandmother was gonna teach me to make them... I was too young and stupid to take her up on it. the new appliances It was tough finding ones w/o computers. We didn't want anything too sophisticated. The stove does have a digital clock/timer and a start button that you need to push to operate the oven/broiler and the timer.... and a stop/cancel button. Not sure if I like that... I need to use it more before I decide.1 point

Hi all Good to see a post from you @MicroMara today has been a balance We bought a new refrigerator and stove. They were delivered at 9AM. It was fun watching people work, instead of being the one watched... The phone repair... a tech [actually the tech's supervisor] was working on it yesterday. Now, it doesn't work at all ... any time. It was working after things warmed in the AM... no mas. At least I'm not getting phone solicitors. The fuel line for my chainsaw arrived, too. Let's just say... I would have much rather had the shop do the repair.... except, I am not planning to go to Tucson twice next week. I hate working on chainsaws. I'm not too keen on working on motors, in general. Chainsaws are the worst that I have dealt with. Dirty, nasty even after you clean them. They pack 2lb of stuff into a one pound box and linkages jangle off while you are dealing with anything else. If you are trying to remove that link, you have to tear the whole machine apart... They are Chinese puzzles covered in sawdust and oil. in hindsight I proly could have made 2 trips to Tucson in the time spent doing the work myself. Not to mention the frustration. I may have posted about it before but this is a great book with excellent info and recipes. I ground my own grain and made fresh sourdough for a number of years. it’s really good stuff and I should get back into it. About every 600-800 or so loaves I’d have to replace the metal worm drive gear ⚙️ In my Kitchenaid Professional. Not a bad job but even with some good food grade grease the gears seemed to wear down pretty consistently with that kind of a load.1 point
