Big claims such as you made require some proof. You haven’t provided any, nor has JEM or Klipsch. I’m sure JEM’s capacitors are very good. Because they’re endorsed by Klipsch they’re also a safe choice. But nowhere has there been any proof to show that they replicate Klipsch specs. Nor has there been any proof that other capacitors don’t. I enjoy your posts but this baseless cheerleading is tiresome.3 points

@archdukeobvious texted me yesterday and asked if I'd tag along for the meet. I brought an amp and played some tunes to check them out, and gave him the thumbs up. I knew he needed a place to store them for a while so I offered my garage for a while. These appear to be completely untouched. I'll be doing some tests, and we thought it would be a good idea to start a new thread with the results. Mike3 points

I ended up getting them for asking price. Overall they weren't in too bad of shape, way better than my previous pair that came from a high school in the middle of nowhere. The seller didn't bring the "stands" but says they were the same size as the LaScalas. I'm not sure what those could be and we'll see if he ends up sending any pictures of them. Perhaps they're full bass bins or maybe they really are just a custom stand? I'm not really sure what the provenance of these LaScala's are. All we know is that he couldn't store them anymore and he had to get rid of them.3 points

Renaissance played Toronto in 1977 at Convocation Hall at the University of Toronto, and I was lucky enough to see them. It was the first time I'd seen a band with a lead bass player rather than a guitarist. I think it was Jon Lord, and of course Annie Haslam was the lead singer. Great show!3 points

Hello I have a set of I think 1974 Klipschorns that I finally got from my uncle after 40 years seeing and hearing them for the first time. Sadly he did not keep them in good shape and they were left in a leaky area and they eventually became a rat house. So far the bass cabinets are scrap along with the woofers. The tops are in decent condition but if I rebuild the bottoms I might as well do tops also. I have already started the tear down of the bottoms and wondering if there is a cut sheet of all parts in US measurements. I have found some online but nothing complete with all the little supports and baffles. Does one exist? The glue is pretty old so once the screws are removed some gentle tapping and the boards seem to pop free. If there is no cut sheets, looks like I will catalog each part and use them as templates. The crossover seem easy to rebuild with new caps should the inductors be replaced also? I did find inside where the tester signed the front panel2 points

All that matters is that they work. The patina tells a story. Heck, even the dust speaks "aged"! Let us know how they sound, and post up if you decide to refurbish them.2 points

Been there and still there. It's phone a kid around here. I get laffed at by either. The youngest in Phoenix is the worst. Sent her a new 50$ Nikon camera strap to replace my old one. She had some lil flowery cheapo picked out for 15$ somewhere. Seriously? So I get the email it had been delivered. Txt'd her and asked. I got a do you have a tracking number? Seriously? So I had to dig up the pic I took of the tracking number I'd already sent her on my phone. THEN I had to figure out how to copy and paste that AGAIN in a msg. Yea, she's teachin alright. Two minutes later I get a pic of the new strap installed and hangin around her neck. SO to get even I started in on her about how the strap buckles weren't even on either side of the camera body and a few other things I noticed. Bwa ha ha. Being the nice guy I am, today I transferred 200 into her account sent her a txt msg and told her to buy some film and impress me. Nope doesn't want digital for some reason. I think she thinks she's gonna out shoot me, which ain't gonna happen but maybe. Kids! Today, I take the oldest out for lunch. I'm telling her the story and she starts laffin at me. The youngest had already called her last night and told her. Yea, once again, they were laffin @ me. Grrrrrr. I feel your pain @grasshopper. lol2 points

I rescued a pair of 5.5's awhile back. I refinished the cabinets and upgraded the diaphragms. Plus, they had all of the badges and grills. The reason I purchased them in the first place is I just wanted to hear a pair of KG5.5's in my own home after many people on the forum said they enjoyed them. Well, they didn't sound any better than the current speakers I had, so I sent them on their way to the next Klipsch lover to enjoy.... and if I remember correctly, I didn't even get close to half of what this guy is asking. I see this a lot; people list something for a ridiculous price, hoping someone who doesn't know anything about the speaker will buy it based on reputation alone. But then they realize pretty much everyone has the internet these days and if they are even remotely capable, they can find out the approximate value of most items these days. Then, the seller, after sitting on the item with absolutely no interest, will slash a huge amount off the original asking price and pretend like he's doing everyone a favor!2 points

For sure it's freakin hevy. I was hunting for some top model from vinyl dusk era. Like this one or Pioneer P3, Sony PS-X9,Denon DP-100M. Trio was least expensive and least classic looking. Someone relatively close distance to me tried to sell it end of last year so I took a chance and brought it home. It needs little bit of cosmetic love but from what I checked before it's mostly repairable in case if something wrong would happen.2 points

You need to change those capacitors in the crossovers. They look original which is around 50 years old. Way old!2 points

I have some 1980 LaScalas and I replaced the woofers and would like to test the tweeter AND the mid horns. Does anyone have the acceptable ohm min/max range for the tweeter and mid horns? thanks bob1 point

See my first post. Inductance (11.4mH) on tap being used on the T5A (-6dB) is the same as Tap 3 on the T2A (-6 dB). Also notice that the 1.75mH is in parallel with both the autoformer and the driver. Unless the inductance of the 3654 or 3636 is the same (it’s not) as the T5A or T2A, you will not get the same result. Also, using a 3654 or 3636 now makes the 1.75mH value incorrect. As for the coils, the DCR also has to match. This is why I no longer get involved in someone else’s DIY project. People don’t listen and they always know more than I do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯1 point

Caps are ordered from JEM. For the money, it is worth the time to find out for myself. Maybe necessary...maybe not. Fun either way.1 point

Good morning/afternoon. Members of this band are local to me, and I came VERY close to joining them some years back as their keyboardist for the live shows ! (they use tracks).1 point

You are asking questions that only a couple of people know the answer to, Roy the current Chief acoustic engineer on the Khorn going back a ways, and Jim Hunter, the former VP of Engineering, Company Historian and curator of the Klipsch Museum. I don’t know that either one of them would be able to discuss the specifics of what you are asking. Real Baltic Birch plywood isn’t cheaper. Everything is about the sound at Klipsch.,1 point

I really enjoyed the livestream and the comments/questions on the feed. Thanks to the high bidder for benefitting the museum.1 point

Didn’t have much swagger left when I got home last night from SWAG, but what an awesome weekend of friends and great audio. The venue was perfect and I want to thank all the guys who put the hard work into making it happen...really happen!! Topped off the weekend with a day on Lake Greeson north of Hope which was great. Already looking forward to next year!1 point
