  1. I guess you know the story behind this next record. I have either misplaced my original copy or lent it out and was not returned? So I purchased the new limited edition that was remastered by Steve Wilson My copy is visually perfect its just beautiful, but needed a very very deep clean due to many skips on first test play Artist - Richard Wright Title - Wet Dream Album ID - https://www.discogs.com/release/28427713-Richard-Wright-Wet-Dream

  2. @KT88 yes I believe he could add a PEQ: 148Hz / Q:8 / Level: (+2 to +5db range) as a trial to compensate for some of what the Auto-Room Compensation adjusted it to. If it proves to be a move in the right direction for @Flevoman then it could be fine tuned if needed to reach his listening goal. NOTE: This is Roy’s PEQ setting except we are now using +db levels to compensate some for the Auto-Room Compensation and find the balance Flevoman desires. Other PEQ; filters can be added to fine tune the region more if desired. It’s important to understand that when you compensate for room modes the bass/mid-bass can at first be perceived as light versus before the compensation. Because the problem room modes are adding a false boost which also mask clarity/detail then by the room compensation removing this false boosting the “perception” can be of a much improved clarity/detail in bass and also in the midrange and hi frequency but also of this perceived lighter bass/mid-bass and some listeners will find it desirable to increase the level in the corrected region. The DSpeaker can perform this in several ways like the PEQ I’m suggesting above. It might take some time with trial and error to find the balance someone desires but it should be achievable. I do understand not everyone is comfortable with the process or desire to spend the time to become familiar enough with what a DSP EQ offers and that’s understandable. miketn🙂

  4. Here's the back story on their fam @JohnJ. Two brothers and their family immigrated to the US from Greece. Both served in WWII then returned to Duckburg and their family. Ole Pete ran a shoe shine/hat blocking store on the main drag til he retired and passed. He never married. His brother and his wife started the Gyro business and they've always just killed it around here. Great people and a great family. His son Chris is running the business now with his wife and daughter. Those are the two gals you met. They pretty much run the place cause Chris isn't really a people person like the rest of the family is. With the girls in there the place is ALWAYS busy cause they take the time to talk and get to know people. They're just sociable and good peeps. Chris is all business and doesn't talk much to anyone unless he really knows them. Chris's daughter has carried a 4.0 average the entire way thru high school and is now going to college doing the same thing. 4.0 all the way. The entire family is a plus for the community and everyone loves them so they support them. EVERYlthing is great they have they make it all from scratch. All the pastry, etc.

  5. In all honesty, if this anomaly presents itself in a very small percentage of your favorite recordings, why do anything? Let’s say it’s 1 out of a 100. Is it really worth the effort? Focus on the music that does sound good. And if you really must play that 1% , just suck it up and enjoy the music and not sweat the less than stellar recording quality. That advice is free and worth what you paid.

  8. OP, don't modify them until you get them working and you listen to them for a while. Actually the Type HIE is a Type AA with the woofer cap changed to raise the Woofer to squawker crossover point for the K-700 horn. https://products.electrovoice.com/binary/EVM-12L Series II EDS.pdf From the graph in this spec sheet, you can see the woofer has a rising curve and hits about 102 dB/w/m around 3k Hz. Klipsch voiced this speaker for outdoor use (and there it sounds great). The squawker and tweeter are run at 104 dB/w/m. A hybrid crossover more like the Type E will voice it more like a home Heresy and make it better for indoors. However, that rising woofer response curve may need a steeper low pass filter. This is a DeanG job. I had a similar pair of HIPs (same crossover and components). They were ported and still pretty bright. @ClaudeJ1 may be able to help you design a port to extend the low bass limit to home audio limits. He likes that woofer for that. He has developed a mod for the Heresy cabinets with that woofer and a port and a corner that you might like. Otherwise, that woofer is popular with guitarists and not suitable for a home edition Heresy.

  12. I had a less than stellar pairing of a Hattor and my VRD's... while it was fine, it was not stellar. I found the sound as lifeless and flat... even though the unit was CLEAR.

  16. Common in industrial locations. If you have a portable water pump, wet-vac or using power tools in wet areas this is what you want. If you work on vintage, old and/or faulty electronics, lots of "gotchas" and surprises. Here's my take, connect chassis directly to panel Earth. Regarding Variac, the red, Chinese Amazon units are the POS. Can't run at rated kVA without getting hot AF. Wipers aren't accurate or don't function until the wick is turned halfway up then wham! The internal winding is likely a better fuse than the fuse. A Staco 12A variable transformer runs about $650 and will source 1.4kVA all day and barely get warm.

  20. I could tell they were great gals when I met them and asked them how they put those Gyros together! Shredded lettuce check, then sliced onions check, tzatziki sauce check... they make their own there !Didn't know until you told me one of them was the wife of the owner. And they did have the peppercinis that come stock on a Gyro where I'm from. But nobody can put that amount of meat into a little pita like they can!!

  22. Got an blanket email today I couldn't believe... 😭 "Hello - Keith here - I wanted to let you know about some unexpected news we received this week. Linn has decided to part ways with Overture Audio after 34 years, and they have given us until the 3rd of April to wrap up all business with them. We'll be happy to talk to you about it on the phone or in person, but for now we have a lot of Linn customers to contact in a short amount of time, so we're sending out this brief email to everyone." There's more but that's the jist of it. 34 years of business??? Guess my turntable resale value just went up or did it go down? They must be going to jack the prices to another level. Wanting those big money boys. Could be feeling the pinch from the other tables too. Guess I'd better get a spare power switch a table mat and a belt or two. Might splurge on a motor too. Who knows but it sounds like things are gonna go out of site down the road like everything else today. Just sad. I'm sure my tech will ride it out cause he's the best imo. @Mossy bottom

  23. Ventured into the heart of Duckburg to pick up a few things and made a command decision. Wind? It's insane. Rain? Kinda maybe. Temp? Dropping. Thought of you though @JohnJ. The girls from Little Athens told me to tell ya hi and they missed you. They missed you? Seriously? 😂 Coupled with the Sauce Master's hot sauce? Honolululululy Pepper @oldtimer? BOOM! Of course I had to. John was like a kid in a candy shop and has become a repeat offender I think. Really was sad when they were asking how he was doing. All I got was a check and a bag. Just sad! 😂

  26. You will be hard pressed to beat that RSW-15. There's a select bunch of people that champion the RP-1600SW as a reasonable replacement, but even that seems marginal. I wasn't even going to keep the 1600 in my system when I thought I was going to have to repair my 15. Tl;dr - keep your RSW-15. I doubt, strongly, that the 1400 would perform better in any way over the 15.

  27. You haven’t found the right tube amp. The right one will sound fantastic with all genres of music and make you forget about solid state. Not sure where this idea of “tube compression” comes from. Tubes breathe life into music.

  31. I found a pair of used RF82 II for $500. They look to be in like new condition. I asked how old they are and the reply was I have had them for a few years. Not sure when the model was last made. Is $500 fair or would you buy a new RP 5000 F for $600 new?

  32. Walnut Raw was a less expensive finish than Walnut Oiled or Walnut Lacquered. It is not actually "rare", it's just a configuration of lumber-core plywood with fancy veneer but without the laborious factory hand-finishing on the veneer. We see vintage Klipsch products in Oregon with this level of finish from time to time, because there was a savvy dealer nearby who recognized this finish offered a very good value in the Klipsch catalog and sometimes ordered products that way to make the best Klipsch offerings more affordable. I can dig out some old catalogs if people are interested, but it was priced above Birch Raw but below Walnut Oiled. Like many Birch Raw Klipsch products, most of these Walnut Raw speakers have been eventually finished by the owner, which is what this set looks like. If the original owner finished the Walnut with lacquer, polyurethane, etc, the poster is correct that they would never need oiling. But if they finished with oil, then it would need occasional oiling--just like the factory oiled ones. As with Birch Raw, the quality of the owner-applied finish varies quite a bit. I once owned an early 1960's Mahogany Raw single Klipschorn that was finished by the owner Prima-Vera style, a bleached finish similar to a classic limed "TV" Gibson Les Paul from the 1950's. Now that was special!

  33. I’ve compared them both in La Scala’s. Not K-horns, but my experience is very similar to yours. I’ve just always read on here that the K-43 is superior to the K-33 in upper bass. You would think just by looking at a K-43 it would be better. Much beefier. That is just not the case. I do like the extra power handling, but I’ve never had any trouble with K-33’s in that regard either. Thanks for the info.

  34. The display shows a significant difference, impressive. Just as a trial could you adjust it afterwards so that it is a little less flat/linear in the range between 100 and 160Hz? But with a very slight curvature upwards? Then the "warmth" would come back to the sound. It is precisely the frequency range that pretends the full bass in an LS3/5a and is indispensable there.

  35. Pretty hard to design a passive preamp that's noisy! No gain = no noise... pretty simple. Much of the noise you experience with an active tube or SS preamp is caused by a system mismatch. Using the wrong preamp with an amp or the reverse. One of the largest headache of putting together a separates system is picking components that play well together. I personally have never liked passive preamps but LP's is a big part of my serious listening...

  42. Rope caulk works well and stays in place and pliable for years without drying out. I caulked my K600's in my Cornwalls 15 years ago. When I bought Altec 511b's for my Khorns, the prior owner had used Dynamat sheets with partial coverage. It was probably just fine, but I removed it and used rope caulk for complete coverage from the throat to the mouth. $6 a roll (Home Depot Store SKU #382841).

  44. Thanks again. This Yamaha ( GT CD 1 ) was made in a limited edition, for about 10 years ago. Wieght is approx 30 kg and the player was an display what Yamaha was/is able to do. It is more or less handcrafted in their "piano shop". Its built up by the best components availble at that time. Cost : (to much) The DAC is an NOS and a 1 bit, sounding in correnspondance to K-horns. They are built for each other. Very Analog response. And toghether with SET 2A3 ,yes ... Wha´t's better ??? I don't know ( no money left ) I do not want to search any more. BR Lech
