  2. Hello Klipsch. I wanted to take a moment to say Happy Birthday to our founder Paul Wilber Klipsch. Today would have been his 111th birthday. I knew Paul and Valerie a number of years before I started working for the company. I only had a few conversations with him about audio. Most of our talks were about life. We talked about love and loss, the past and the future and the usual planes, trains and automobiles. Paul always struck me as a man that loved to learn. I could be about stuff or people or how the world worked, but he was always looking for new things and how to make the old things better. I have seen him make changes to a math equation 40 years old while in his 90’s. He had such an amazing mind. I miss his stories. …I can just see him talking to Gabriel about changes his horn. So, if you have a bottle of Scotch around, raise a glass to PWK. I know I will. Trey Cannon – Systems Engineer

  10. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr P back in 1981 when I was 14 and a budding young guitar player and music lover. I had an uncle who was a master craftsman/carpenter/cabinet maker who drove me to the Hope plant where we got a tour and met Mr P. He and my uncle talked a lot about woodworking and we got the plans for the La Scala's from him. Over the next few months, we built a pair of the cabinets and with money saved from hard mowing and 2 paper routes, I bought all of the drivers and had the crossover networks built by a guy who did sound systems for churches in the town I grew up in, and assembled them. They were awesome! The sad part is, I lost track of them somewhere in the 80's and have no clue where they got off to. Thanks again for all you did and for showing me what the enjoyment of music could be like. Happy Birthday!

  13. Happy Monday all! Had some wonderful friends over to try out the new projector and watched Master and Commander. A great time to be sure! My 2.5 yr old was so visibly crushed to not be a part of it that it actually bothered me in the back of my mind during the film. Gotta shake those big brown eyes but it's great he's at that stage where he wants to do everything with dad - I know that will change! Anyway, as far as the movie goes, the jump from 65" to 150" was wonderful! SO cinematic! Have a great week everyone!

  15. Monsoon Malibar...sounds yummy. You...losing weight there at the fridge at 2 @m Just remember there is the cabbage soup diet. 10-17 lbs. in 7 days. Some merit as to the claim that, it may be water that you loose. However, if you are at a barrier you cannot penetrate with other diet, psych up and do a week without cheating to see how much you loose. Please take the word"diet" with a bit of caution. Do not on a whole subscribe to that position. Have done this diet a couple of times and lost. See how much you have to loose. ***Keeping it off for a month after is the real test. Dolly Parton diet Mayo Clinic diet Cabbage Soup diet Was going to yammer on for a bit more but, the more soup you eat, the more you tend to loose. Plenty online.

  16. I had met Paul 3 times,, when I was a teenager he treated and talked to me like I was adult and I never forgot it. I now talk to younger people as equal even though I was in no way close to Paul he did not treat me like most adults did. Rick

  17. That looks good, I think there are 2 things that can make or break a pizza. 1 the sauce, 2 the dough, yours looks like it would do just fine. Thanks for sharing.

  18. Why wait? You can have dual PB2000's or a PB12 Plus at your door by Friday. Heck even if you don't like them then just return within 45 days. That's 45 days of FREE demoing and FREE return shipping. What's not to love about that company? There's a good reason among others why SVS is one of the top ID companys in the world.

  19. Paul's speakers enrich my life. Right now, I'm listening to his La Scalas, JubScala IIs (thanks to Roy Delgado, too), Belle and Heresy III. Every day, I look forward to listening to music, old favourites and interesting new tunes, through this system that was made possible by PWK's work and that of others at Klipsch and on this forum. Yes, a toast to Paul is certainly in order!

  24. Never heard of that so I read up on it. Very interesting process. It reminds me of how a Madeira wine came to be. Does he have a website? My guy is Zen Cafe in South Bend, IN. If you want to, i can buy some and send to you. Last time I purchased it was $12 per pound. I'll be trying to get there either Tues or Thurs this week, and I can check again. Let me know if you'd like some. I have lots of small boxes I can put in a pound or two in, should be pretty cheap to send via USPS. Happy to do it. It is really, really great stuff.....If you do happen to email Sean, make sure to tell him that Jim sent you. He knows me, I'm his best customer for this coffee. http://zencafecoffee.com/html/main/index.php

  25. So you better not keep the seller waiting. When you see him,let him know I'm good to go. Just let me know 24 hours or so ahead of time. I take that much of a drive, just to go fishing for fish that I'm not keeping or eating.Just to be able to take a picture with them.

  37. First of all, welcome to the forum! Others will likely chime in with better insight, but I will say the best way is the way that sounds best to YOU! Other factors will certainly include the size and layout of your room, amount of music listening vs. movie time listening you do, etc. You have some great gear! Enjoy! Adjust the settings yourself over time, keep tinkering and see what you like the best!

  42. perhaps they were breaking in and no longer required the EQ drop in response that you had set up initially? Maybe you are just not a fan of the signature the ti diaphragms have (lots are not). I personally woulds prefer aluminum diaphragms but they are not an option and so I much prefer the ti diaphragms over the stock Klipsch and Bob Crites phenolic diaphragms. As they say YMMV. Best regards Moray James.

  44. The problem is the bass, which is exactly what these things are the least effective at killing. The lower the frequency the lower the coefficient is. So it might help but you probably need several layers to get rid of what you want. Also even if you did add something in between the joists, part of the problem is that sound actually goes through the joists. One solution I've seen for walls is to double up on your joists and offset every other one so that the drywall on one side is not attached to the same joists that hold up the drywall on the other side. Not sure if a similar idea could be used on a ceiling.

  46. We would draw a circle in the dirt and a starting line and put equal amounts of marbles in the ring. I remember if we knocked a shooter out of the ring we'd get to keep it. Remember using "handstands" to shoot from far away to get the extra height and distance.

  47. I had been looking for a subwoofer locally for a while and nothing was really showing up, so I decided to just build my own. I decided to build two dual 12 in vented subs and sell one off to cover the cost of mine. I found a great deal on some brand new a stock drivers from Epik. They appeared to be leftover drivers form when they were still doing business. The drivers had great reviews, it was their amps that seemed to have issue. They have 22mm xmax one way and can handle roughly 600 rms each. They turn out fantastic and sound amazing, but still need more time to break in. No strange vibrations or resonance and no vent noise either. I used a 3/4in oak veneered plywood for the outside, stained black and coated in many coats of a satin polyurethane. They ended up matching my RF-5's quite nicely. MDF was used for the vents and the vents are flared both inside and out to reduce the risk of noise. I don't have a windows computer so thankfully "Mustang Guy" helped me out with what cu ft I'd need for the drivers and what vent size I would need. I took those numbers and designed the boxes form there. With the specs from the drivers, the program thought one dual 12 sub should put out about 118db at 21hz without reaching xmax. The boxes were glued and sealed with PL premium (messy stuff but works well), lined with an acoustic foam, and the subs were bolted in using t-nuts to keep them nice and snug. They were also allowed to sit for about a week while the glue and poly cured before the subs were installed. One box I built is more typical in design, roughly the size and shape of the JL Fathom F212. The other one I did as something more unique. It's a hexagonal box with two smaller vents off to the sides. It look more like an end table and from the back you'd think that's what it was until you saw the drivers. Its more pictures that the forum allows being linked to, so here's a finished photo, and the link to the photo bucket album. Photobucket Link
