  1. Rock salt on food? Yuck! That stuff is dug right out of the ground and could have all kinds of dirt and stuff leached into it. I'd go with sea salt or kosher salt if you like the bigger chunks. Sounds like they survived their 4th of July just fine though! I think there were probably better things to worry about at some of our family 4th of July get togethers.

  3. No C&C posts today??! Happy late Tues. a.m. guys. Other than getting new outdoor carpeting installed under the covered part of the patio, it's a slow day at the ranch. The install crew is still here. Will report the results back later. Never tried rock salt on roasted meat before, billybob. I guess if the meat was overcooked, you could roll it around your driveway to melt the snow. The worst I've almost done is almost putting hydrocortisone cream on a toothbrush. Glad I caught that one in time. Cheers.

  6. That's classic... The wife keeps hand soap right next the toothpaste on the bathroom sink, and they are fairly similar in size and shape. I am not a morning person, and when I get up, I am still 3/4 asleep when I reach the sink. I have on occasion reached for the soap, but fortunately have caught myself. The older I get, the more I fear my lucky streak will eventually come to an end.

  8. Tonight I was listening to my 5.1 Rush Moving Pictures disc, and was simply amazed as to how good it sounded (I hadn't listened to it on my new setup at all. This got me to looking for software to rip my DVDAudio discs, and SACD discs to the hdd. I found a DVDAudio Extractor that extracts it to various formats (I picked FLAC)... I tested it out and it works perfectly. Now I have to rip the few discs I have that are DVDAudio, and then find a ripper for my SACD discs. Does anyone have any recommendations for DVDAudio, SACD, or DTS discs for listening to? I Have the following... DVD Audio: Fleetwood Mac-Rumours Eagles- Hotel California Deep Purple Machine Head SACD/Hybrid Elton John - Yellow Brick Road Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon 5.1 DTS Pink Floyd - Endless River DTS surround Steely Dan - Gaucho Boys II Men Santana - Abraxa Alan Parsons - On Air

  13. Still no where near as bad as the officiating in the KY/WI game. Wow was that a botchery! Both sides! That one call with the ball out of bounds was missed imo, but there were several touch fouls that went WI's way especially in the first half. No dog in this one. Nice back and forth, WI needed to keep their foot on the throat and imo, they started settling for quick shots. Now let's PLAY BALL! The boys of summer need to fill the gap until football starts!

  14. After doing the first two wall with double studs (staggered) I decided the next sections to go up I would do the interior studs and toenail in the exterior studs when I'm done with interior drywall. That way I can get the insulation to fit. Didn't want to wrestle weaving in and out of 8" opening. Plus I can finish the inside faster & if I decide to add electrical outlets after I live in the room for a while it'll be soooo much easier to cut out a box hole and run wire - again not squeezing between 8" opening between studs. Room for a rack... Started to build shelves & decided against built in bookcase style & will do a floor to ceiling equipment rack and drywall and frame around the slots I don't use/need (then hidden expansion if I need it in the future, just cut and re-trim around!) Started boxing out the A/C trunk. Will stuff with more Roxul. Now walls are ready for drywall. Just need to save up again for drywall & then have it delivered. And green glue... And Roxul... And and and.. That's where I stand as of last night. More electrical to run, and order A/V rack. Thoughts? Suggestions? Here's my rough idea drawing when I started... Things have changed- but still gives a decent idea!

  15. You need an early-model PS3 that hasn't been updated past firmware version 3.55--and some third-party freeware, available via web, to do it.

Of this lot, all the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band DVD-As and DVD-Vs are by far the highest fidelity and the most impressive listening. Chris

  18. ...please excuse me for butting in but... I need some help I am running 2, 12" Rockfords in separate sealed enclosures behind the front seats, on the floor. Powered with a Digital Designs 600W mono block at 2 ohms. I am interested in knowing more of this "isobaric" enclosure you speak of... my problem is, I have to have room to haul these babies around with me. They always enter through the hatch but going in through the back door is an option. I want some subs that can breath as opposed to the sealed enclosures. Space is at a premium!!! Thoughts and suggestions please, Frzninvt

  20. this comes off disrespectful and about half rude. if the guy thinks they sounded fuller then who are you to say he is just straight up wrong? i could tell you all day after bashing palladiums for so long because of what someone told me that your klf's would walk circles around them. but after buying them and hearing them i don't feel that way at all anymore. and after loading them up and taking them to a friends house and hearing them in a larger dedicated room on a powerhouse amp they are easily one of klipsch best speakers. regardless of price. and they all have 7" woofers. they are outstanding!

  21. That's funny. Helping my elderly Aunt once prepare for the annual Fourth of July BBQ. They would dig a hole in the yard and use white oak. Put big hunks of meat on these metal rods. She would put rock salt on the meat before cooking. She asked me to get the salt one time. I grabbed the bag and said, "is this it?" She said yes. I then said, "this isn't fit for human consumption." She laughed and I told her I was serious and showed her the warning. She shrugged her shoulders and said "I've been using that exact stuff for the past 30 years." we used it that day...we all lived. The way I've lived...and I'm not the worst of the bunch--maybe that explains it. Lol

  24. Tickets suck, a rolling stop in a subdivision, but with everyone driving talking and texting, they will just look the other way. Came up to a red light the other day and in the next lane they just drove on through as they stared at a phone, just luck no one was crossing.

Sorry buddy just a little salt for the wound...I'm a veteran of many a ticket...including one just like you received and mine was right in front of my house. Did you ask the cop to give you Klipsch Forum Warning Points instead of a ticket?

  26. Our "not so meager" offerings this Easter. Slow cooked brisket, elote, roasted potatoes and carrots with garlic and spring onion, the requisite deviled eggs, and fresh herb salad with beets and tomatoes. Dessert (not pictured) was a light Angel Food Cake with crushed pineapples (baked inside) and whipped cream. Thanks to Mrs. Boxx for making this Easter meal fabulous. We make a great team.

  29. hunter buddies of mine spend upwards of $5k a year to get their tag limit. You can spend $3-7k on a 4-wheeler or jet ski. Boats cost $30k. My 20yr old shotgun was $1,400. The Browning 725 I want is around $3,200. Expensive hobbies exist all around us, but only audio systems seem to raise eyebrows with the "responsibility police" Is $8k amortized over the next 20+ years really that big of a deal?

  32. So after hearing palladiums a few months ago i have been itching to try them in my own home. i decided to total up all the money i have in gear around the house, and decided to see what all i can start selling. so while i am losing a lot of gear (that i don't really need) i can finally find out how the klipsch palladiums sound in my home. to me its a price to pay to end the wondering. so selling bedroom setups, and computer setups, and setups i have in storage just because. the only things i will not be selling is anything from my downstairs home theater, and the wife said the cornwalls better not be going anywhere! (I really do love this woman) so on to what i have coming. on friday i ordered the p-27c in merlot. it should be here tomorrow. now i have p-17's payed for but the seller is really pushing the towers on me. i like towers much better than bookshelves as far as looks. plus the thought of having bookshelves on stands with a 4 year old whizzing by them scares me. so i still haven't decided if i am gonna (or can) fork over the money for the towers. since i am selling all my stuff, i will be getting rid of the projector and screen in the living room. me and the wife are ok with it cause we have so many windows so frankly i'm excited to take the kuro out of storage and get it back up. i have a gentleman buying it and a whole 5.1 package from me. i always have good luck selling full packages to people as it just comes easier to me than selling separate pieces. so i have to find a new avr eventually if the palladiums end up staying. i will use my once 805 for right now. HOWEVER i do have to find a subwoofer for the living room. and foot print can't be huge, just don't have the space for it. pics will come once the stuff gets here. and as usual waiting is the hardest part...

  37. I did not have a horse in this race either. Being from MEE SHEE GAN originally, I was half way pulling for Michigan State til they got trounced on Saturday. I just hate it when the officials determine the outcome. Near the end clearly a charge against Duke is called a foul on Wisconsin. On the very next series a charge is called on Wisconsin, I about threw my remote at the TV. Then you can't 'see' the ball clearly tipped out of bounds by Duke. BULL FEATHERS.

  42. Most of Easter weekend went okay. Dinners with LF and her two college girl relatives. Both cuties. Cooked salmon, sweet potatoes, apple crisp on the Green Egg.....zucchini fries in the oven. Bike rides, outside Jacuzzi, yard work. Then......leaving LF's house I was pulled over by HP for a rolling stop at the neighborhood stop sign that goes onto the main public highway. $238 ticket. Talked with Earl a bit about options. Don't want points Oh well....... Cheers Gents

  43. Perspective buyers should be aware that NOS Valves rebuilt gear come with a lifetime transferrable limited cost warranty and full free tech support. Basically subsequent owners pay for shipping and a basic $75 bench fee to repair any problems that comes up that can not be handled via phone or email support. This includes parts that have been replaced at no cost of course any original part that has to be replaced is additional cost. Of course tubes are not covered. This is IMHO a great deal on this amplifier.

  44. Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering if PWK was a Tolkien fan or if it was employee driven. I think it is a very cool shirt and I would love to have one. I also love the connection with Elijah Wood. Not only is he a great actor but, he obviously has great taste in gear.

Many of the old long time forum guys were present. The audio writer from Fla drove up @#$ I cant remember his name, Deano, BEC ...... Must have been '04 or '05. That pic was shot in the church sanctuary, Iron Man was playing as I recall. tc

  46. Looking at this thread again today I can see that some of you over-estimate my skills. I do not have calibrated measuring equipment, nor the experience to use them. All I have is my Phonic PAA-2 analyzer which helps me out from time to time when I don't trust my ears. So I'm a very simple guy who tunes his system by ear. That is why I did not change the Universal Classic enclosure in design and only cut-off the empty spaces that made it look bulky and like a ugly box. Before making any change at all, like putting the EV HR-90 horns in the La Scala's, I listen to it first for a few weeks together with my wife [ for more than 30 years already she sings in a choir and got a very fine-tuned hearing]. After a few weeks we swap things back the way they were, and check the difference. This way we were always able to determine wether the "new thing" was a improvement or not. Compared to the K-horns [we have heard K-horns many times] ,these horns go slightly less deep but have a much better "open sounding " bass and midbass" area. They can also easily be crossed over at 900Hz and this way provide a good basis for a 2-way system. Compared to the La Scala, these horns dig deeper, provide a much richer sound, again sound much less restricted and do not suffer from the colourations of the LS 's sidewalls. Having the mid/high horn inside the bassmouth makes the sound coming from one point which has broadened and deepened the soundstage, singer's voice coming from mid-air between the cabinets. These are our experiences without professional measurements, you may laugh about it if you want. All I wanted to share here with this thread was my enthousiasm for this project and maybe encourage others to refurbish old enclosures from the past so they can be enjoyed again today. Nico

  48. The La Scala's are up for sale now here in The Netherlands, though I had my doubts about selling them for the past few months...... Have to make room again for putting the dining-table in the original position again, my wife wants the livingroom back to normal after months of tools, speakers and other stuff all around the place. I have to admit that if we had room for them we would defenately not sell them but that's how it goes sometimes. We only hope to find a buyer that will appreciate them as they are now. We're going for a "groundsound" active crossover that will allow us to adjust just about everything from crossoverpoints, slopes, time alignment etc. for the two-way University Classics. Will report how that goes so some of you guys may benefit from our experiences; after all a lot of you helped us to find the best mods for the La Scala's. Nico
