  1. Good morning friends.... Thanks Freeze for the cable photo, and a nice table under them !! Stephen, that is quite the story...! Ok, got a vacation day going here...............Music Hall and the Longfellow Music and Movie House (media rooms) are all prepped and ready for my guest Ryan coming here for a music listening experience, what we call M.A.D. (Music Appreciation Day). I have never met Ryan but we have been friends on the Right This Minute forum for a long while now. Plans for today have been over half a year in the making!! He is flying into Boston on business, then renting a car to drive west to my place here. He will bring some new music to crack open and listen to, and I have some selections lined up on the Rega, Teac R to R and some DVD-A and Blu Ray audio discs as well... The Klipschorns are freshly oiled and looking pretty and the gear is up to the task .. I will be taking the usual photos that some of you may have seen many times over in RTM. So, with that, its time to get some breakfast going and the coffee has been ready for a while now. .......have a good day my everyone, more later this afternoon ....Gary

  3. Heritage speakers is a critical part of the marketing of the Klipsch brand. They bring authenticity and authority to both our brand marketing and our other speaker lines. They won't be going anywhere, as there will always be people who want to buy this type of product even if it's niche. "Niche" doesn't have to mean they don't help our business financially or brand-wise. More on this to come later.

  4. I have someone that takes hand drawn images/ideas, cleans them up and digitizes them for embroidery designs for me. Costs about $20 to have it done. i will be in touch My wife ended up on the Board for the Filipino-American Association of Greater Chattanooga, and we found the only logo was the low resolution one shown below. No one had anything better in their files. I redid it and made a large Photoshop file that I can make good quality smaller ones from. A little time and one can do wonders. The old one was rather embarrassing. Bruce

  7. Afternoon kids... late start this morning after a late night. Adult beverages, a sleeping wife and the convenience of the interwebs resulted in a new amp purchase around the midnight hour. Since the old system will be gifted to my eldest son, I did a little shopping this morning for a few essentials. In keeping with the theme of the thread, I offer you the following:

  8. I have listened to my new Bowers and Wilkins 802 Diamonds for a few weeks now. The 802 are sitting in front of my Klipshorns. The K-horns are running DeanG crossovers, the 802 are stock. The main difference between the two is efficiency and direct radiator vs. horns. My main impression is that the 802 beat the K-horns. They go higher and lower (based on my terrible ears). They consume more power (obviously), but sound better. They are both very detailed speakers. The most in-your-face difference is the 802 reveal all the sloppiness of time delay inherent in the Klipschorn. I never thought I could hear that so easily. The 802 are just more together than the K-horn. Both will go very loud! No, the Klipshorns will never be sold. I am going to get some digital processors to see if I can correct the time alignment of the corner horns and then compare again. I like the K-horns better for my vintage amps, but that is due to the power issue. What is going to happen is that B&W will be powering my HT, while Klipschorns with a Belle in the middle will be in a separate (yet to be constructed) audio-only room. I hope to get some testing data soon, but this is a very busy time for me at work. Pics will follow sometime soon.

  11. No secrets, just a way to round up the troublemakers and corral them in. Many of the audio discussions were getting pretty over the top too - some were adopted later as they found out about the place. If people can be civil, I don't see why these discussions can't take place in the lounge. Another alternative is just to open it up to everyone- or just shut it down.

It's just like the Mason's they hide right out in the open. Be afraid be very afraid. (I won't sign my name so they can't prove it was me that wrote this)

  13. Crossovers ordered from Al. Parts comming in from parts express. Need to figure out how to brace the mod horn in some creative way. The finish was totally exhuasting... 4 cabs. I kept the finisher an extra day to look after all the details I wanted and then cleanup was 4 hours. The end result seems worth it.

  14. Just curious, why do you not want to use the Crites cast frame woofer? Probably because you have to grind away aluminum on two opposite sides of the basket to get them to fit in a LaScala would be my guess. Roger

  23. You have to be irritating and obnoxious. It was a way to keep religious and political discussions off of the main boards. Most who belong have left. Only three or four actively discuss anything, and I don't even bother going to it anymore.

  24. First impressions are, it's gorgeous. Blue ring (even though I hate the porthole) looks sharp in the dark. Internal guts, what I have seen with the top off (another person's pics),look very nice. Menu's are fast, XT32 is faster than my Denon 4520 (newer chips probably), and the connection possibilities are plentiful. I hope to try out the balanced connectors this week, and also need to try out airplay. It connected to wifi quickly, and the dual antenna's pull in a strong signal. One other thing to note is they have changed the font size in the menu's, so most everything fits on one page. Especially in the speakers menu, where with so many channels info went across two pages. All in all, it's another D&M product with XT32, but they continue to make tweaks that improve the experience. The XT32 setup menu's also give you more pointers and explain mic positioning at each step, which is a must for the general user base IMO (not everyone reads the Audyssey setup thread at AVS, if they even know about AVS or other forums in the first place). It runs cool, something an AVR being used as a preamp does not. My 4520ci as a preamp, was more hot at then end of a movie than the XPA-3 was. SQ was outstanding during the movie last night, but I changed a LOT of components out, so I cant attribute all that to the 7702. I do know some people claim the new HDAM's produce a better sound than the 7701/8801, but I cannot attest to that. I do know during the tense scenes of The Babadook, I heard every detail and thump I needed too and it was clean, which had me on the edge of my seat. That is what quality audio is all about. I never really realized or appreciated, before getting into better gear, how the Director's choice in music or sounds plays into the overall effect of a movie. For some, especially horror movies, those sounds are as important as what happens on screen at times.

  27. Deep in the concrete canyons of Manhattan: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2015/04/25/police-cage-coyote-in-lower-manhattan/ Lots of coyote sightings in NYC recently as they work their way down from upper Westchester, etc. I live in very southern Manhattan in Battery Park City, across from the World Trade Center. This poor girl was captured right next to my apartment building, on the promenade along the Hudson River, less than 100 yards from the front door. I guess she just followed the riverfront all the way downtown, maybe she was going to hop on the Staten Island Ferry.

  28. These look like the first four LS that I built circa 1978, except I used 9-ply oak plywood. After the first four I decided the corner reflectors were a waste of time (was crossing at 200hz or so), so I left them out. I did change every dimension in my plan, the motor board was increased to 15-3/4" to accommodate different woofers, etc.

  29. Cut off the dustcap and measure the actual voice-coil. I'll wager it's just the tinsel leads that are bad. Replace the tinsel leads on both woofers, and replace both dustcaps with the ones used on the K33E. It would take a re-cone shop less than an hour to do both, you could do it yourself in a couple of hours. http://forum.speakerplans.com/dead-as-a-door-nail_topic5731_post48325.html?KW=dust+cap https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/140231-how-to-recone-a-k-33-woofer/?hl=ferrule#entry1579114 https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/152507-klipschorn-woofer/?hl=ferrule#entry1784499

  33. Hell yeah crank them suckers up. Thats why we bought em. I must be in the minority as I listen loud, to both music and HT. As all of our hearing varies based on age, damage, abuse , genetics, or whatever, so for me, its hard to say I listen at a certain db consistently. It varies from source to source, song to song. To me the headroom is the safety net. No such thing as too much headroom and too much spare change!

  34. I have a pair of La Scalas that the tops were cut off of... I started the refinishing with 3/4" plywood plus 1/4" Maple veneered plywood, and then moved on. They have been sitting in our car port. If anyone is local to Concord, Ca. they can have them for free.

  35. I have an interesting link. This needs to be repeated as I have posted this before. AVS is an anti-power site because they sell most flagship receivers. It's counterproductive to rec an amp. I'll listen to the Prez of an amp company... who also happens to be an engineer... Too bad about your experience on AVS. Don't know the whole story, but it seems a little hasty. I want people to share their experiences and opinions here on the Lounge. I don't care what they talk about product wise. You like another product? Cool. We're not worried. We welcome comparison. If some guys think their AVR is all they need, well that's fine. Maybe it fits their needs and their budget. Some people do not like to feel like their decisions and opinions are being challenged. They get angry and defensive. Maybe that's the core of the issue there... All you have to do here is be civil and respectful... opinionated is fine. No taunting!! Clearly they have not heard a system with real headroom. Headroom is what having big amps is all about; not playing as loud is you can stand it! I'm thinking about doing a tech article on this very subject. I'd like to show how a typical "brand X" receiver behaves in a real world situation with typical speakers in an average listen room. You will be amazed to see how quickly you can run out of gas. I can drive an XPA-5 into mild clip quite easily with the right type of program material, so imagine what a receiver that makes less than half of its rated power with all channels drive will do. Headroom is all about clarity, resolution and maintaining dynamics. You will be amazed at how much more you can hear when your system is not pushed to it's dynamic limits. power wise. Stand by... In the meantime, have fun kids! Cheers, Big Dan

  36. No worries, I really don't care what anyone else thinks, and I don't need tests. My eyes tell a calibrated display looks better than one that isn't, and my ears tell me my system cranked sounds better with an actual amp. Just like XT32 sounds better than earlier versions of audyssey, which weren't that good IMO!

  37. Plug N Play makes a difference. Buying a $400 speaker and then having to do some repairs and the bargin is gone. I have a pair of Fort'e that look brand new and would not sell them for less than $600.

  38. Figure I'd give an update. The RC-64 II has found a permanent home here with me. It arrived with a small chip out of the front top edge but otherwise like new. The sound is different than I was expecting. At first I was a bit disappointed compared to the RC-7 which clearly seems to have much better bass / mid-bass response. I'm hoping that over time the 6.5" woofers might loosen up and offer a bit more? As far as voice and dialogue clarity goes the 64 II seems to be higher resolution, more transparent is the best way I can describe it. Inner details and little noises can be heard with ease. All the sounds seem to be equal across the board. The RC-7 is leaps and bounds ahead of the Academy and KLF-C7 in this department and 64 II seems to even go beyond the RC-7. I think both centers are excellent but I have to say I think the 64 II is an improvement, even more so if the bass improves over time.

  39. Grade and high schools, for the most part, teach to a body of facts and usage that reward memorization and regurgitation. Most college experiences and majors further distill this paradigm to a single subset of knowledge. What we create are a strong minority of didacts, who believe they are better than the B and C students. Most didacts are then stunned when they see the lesser students pass them in the fast lane of life.

  43. Im sure pure direct would sound a lot better in the same studio it was recorded (with all the same gear and room). Plus taste of what a person thinks sounds good is a huge part of good sound. And considering are ears are different just like the rooms and set ups we all have makes it ever more complex.

  44. funny you say this. Because this is the kind of stuff an amp isn't needed. Avr's put out great numbers at 2 channels driven. It's when 7 channels are going when it's tough. I have not problem telling the story of when I decided to take my RF-63's to a friends house and run them full range with an xpa-3 at 200 per channel and full range on a 20 watt per channel lepai amp. When level matched we listened at crazy volumes to all kinds of music and no one in the room could pick the emotiva and the lepai apart. Take it for what's it's worth. I'll spend the extra money on MORE BASS!!!

  46. Tim - Sancho has 5 Heresies at ear level - I also use mine at ear level , which is where your Heresies will just shine -no risers required , although I would love to sample Heresies with a slanted riser - -I put my Heresies on top of my Cornwalls one day and they have been there ever since -would I have stands made , they would be 36 inches tall and capable of holding a 50 lbs Heresy - -the picture you see here is the perfect height , by coincidence - PWK had designed the Heresy with identical drivers than a Khorn to be a center speaker for Khorns -
