  1. If any of you ride, surely you're tired of everything being from Taiwan by now. If so, check out some of my friend's creations. Revolution bicycles, made right here in Paducah. Welded, powder coated, graphics made and applied, assembled, everything. https://www.facebook.com/revolutionbicyclecompany/?pnref=lhc Siren bicycles, dude is from southern Illinois right across the river then went to California but now he is in Colorado. He builds it all himself, doesn't outsource the welding. https://www.sirenbicycles.com/

  2. You get my PM? Yea Carl that's a good one...... I'll see if I can get some time and tell ya few also..... Now you know the day will come that we can chill back and tell some good war stories I told my wife the day she jumped into the shop 18 years ago that me "fixing" cars is the easy part (most of the time) but jumping through all the other rings of fire to get there is the toughest.... and dealing with that person that's attached to the car....... now that can be the hardest part of all...... I have alot of good customers...... but there are a few I just shake my head ...... I feel like saying "are you really that stupid?" Later..... MKP :-)

  3. Another worker bee getting ready to go home on this Friday afternoon. I will get in a 30 minute walk/run, a light dinner and then some scotch and tunes. I found out a fellow member of the River City Audio Society lives three blocks from me. He is bringing over a pair of subs for me to try in my main 2-channel rig. The old Velodyne finally gave in and now only buzzes.

Just a matter of whether people what to tap into the "source" or not. I am limited as to how much I can say at this point. Travis

  9. Well, the AC isn't working as it should. Still just a little warm in the house. Don't know if the AC guy is going to get out this weekend and check. Poor guy nearly had a heat stroke each day he was in the attic. The attic temp is ranging from 130-140 degrees in the heat of the day. Comfortable enough so the "dog days" of summer aren't too bad. Even though, the dogs are laying around on the floor absorbing coolness from the tile. Still have some fans going to keep them comfortable. The floor looks like a flop house for dogs. Don't think I will be doing much outside this weekend. Going to my house in Clarksville tomorrow and repair some 90 year old oak flooring before my son moves back from Austin. He asked if he could live in the house for a couple of years while he looked for property to build on. I told him that when the floor is finished, he had to accept the fact that a pair of Cornwalls and a spare stereo system was going to be set up and he would just have to live with it.....

  13. In the past I have owned Forte, ForteII and RF35. I now have RF7 in the bedroom and although it is overkill I like the sound better than all the rest. This is just my opinion for my particular room and system, which is Marantz 2275 and Oppo DV-981HD. Trial and error is the way to go. Tom

  14. so, just to add closure.... when the time came for me to actually say yes or no about selling my 7's, i almost threw up. i was literally shaking and really felt i was going to vomit. i told him no, and honestly i wouldn't sell them even at full MSRP value. i would gladly help him find his own and even mod them, but i wasn't letting go of my 7's for anything.

  16. I'm sure Dude will chime in regarding the Kirkland Vodka, but if you don't mind, I'll give you my take as well...I was honestly not overly impressed, it was just OK. If you're mixing it with a bunch of stuff, then it would be acceptable, but not for a straight martini. For everything that Costco has in stock, the Ketel One 1.75L at $27.99 here in Indiana is at the top of the list. However, I did pick up a 1.75L of Svedka Vodka the other day for $16.99, and I'm interested to give it a try.

  17. So very true..... Of the last 18 years of running the shop there has only been five or so people (not customers) that I have thrown outta the shop. These people can not be pleased..... they don't want to be pleased..... If every time I do business with them it brings us discord and it's just such a pain in the A$$...... We CUT em....... don't want em..... go somewhere else...... Me and The BOSS call it "weeding them out" ......... Hey I like making money $$$$$ and I like working with people, but some have issues. Like the guy that slammed me on the Yelp a few weeks ago. This guy could not be pleased....... I think he's the type of guy that has "bullied" his way with people...... I think I was the 1st to look him in the eye -man to man- and tell him NO!.... anyway.... I'll check in later.....got movie day going on at the house MKP :-)

  19. The two caps on the laft are paralled to get the 13uF. There must be a second 2uF under the 2uF on the right. Pull the white wire off the top cap (this will take the diodes out off the circuit). Or it's the black on the bottom right. You need to locate the 245uH choke. If it is on the black wire on the left of the 2uF cap, you probably just pull both the black and white and replace with the jumper. Since the jumper is wire tied to those two, it makes sense. Bruce

  21. I can't believe you're in NJ! As far as I know, the only active forum guys from here are myself (Hunterdon County), and Jim ("Jim") who is in Fords. Regarding local service, if there's a ham radio club it's likely that they have some old timers who are extremely well versed in tube electronics (many are probably audiophiles as well). Another person who may be able to help you, and who is right in your area, is Sal Brisindi (SalB203@aol.com). I know that he was very involved in amp restoration at one time, but now may be limiting his work to old radios. I'd drop him a note. Either way, I'll help you out if I can. When you send the picture, we can exchange direct emails to make things easier. One thing is certain- once you get a taste of tubes with your Heresys, you will never want to return to SS! Maynard

  25. Just watching a video about Adam Trombly (http://projectearth.com/about/adam-trombly), who was a friend of John Lilly (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_C._Lilly), staying at Lilly's house when diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer and 2-4 months to live, and in constant pain. An Iranian doctor suddenly arrives at the house, having been given a message during meditation to show up with a medical bag filled with Ketamine. As Adam lays on the floor of John Lilly's living room, "with my feet pointed between his two big Klipschorn speakers there..." (24:35) Ep 6 - Adam Trombly Recalls Stories of John C Lilly

  26. How did you manage to sneak that by the censors? +++ That was a strange story you posted directly upstream ^^^ about the guy not taking your deposit. That industrial look with the aluminum trim is my favorite, and yes I know I'm a bit odd. With that guy jerking you around, if it were me I would have walked away too.

  27. Both LarryC and I can give a hearty endorsement of the Target Audio Turntable Stand. This is wall mounted to standard 16" on center studs which isolates it from vibrations. In addition, the actual platform the table sits on is isolated from the rest of the stand. Once the TT's taken car of, you have tons of options for the rest of the gear.

  28. I look forward to the day when I can be a worker bee. Thinking for, being responsible for and eating s**t every time someone under me messes up gets old. When I retire from my current job, I'm going to find a mindless job where I can go to work, do my thing, be responsible for only me and go home each night without a care in the world regarding my employer.

  29. Note that the above EQ curves can be adjusted for taste using a simple curve to increase the relative level of highs or lows, like the one posted earlier in this thread: This is the type of salt-and-pepper adjustment that I make to tracks the day after doing the big corrections to undo the typically heavy-handed mastering EQ curves that are applied to tracks. In the case of Flight of the Cosmic Hippo, the above EQ curves aren't really that dramatic, but serve to show that even "audiophile quality" CDs are affected by those forces that seek to "make it sound better" at the distinct expense of lowering fidelity. Today, I'm adjusting the unmastered tracks formed by the above EQ unmastering curves. In general, having a fresh listen to all unmastered tracks usually results in very small adjustments to the tracks in order to bring out their musical character--but without significantly altering the overall balance of the track. Very small changes to the unmastered tracks produce disproportionately greater effects, because the unmastered tracks have been returned to something much closer to the natural recording first picked up by the microphones in the recording space (before the recording is altered). 30. To me, low bitrates affect sounds farther out in the soundstage more than those in the center. I listen to a lot of rock, and the full, wide-field stereo guitar sound is affected the most. It literally becomes garbled and wobbly sounding. Sometimes almost like it's underwater.

  31. Nothing like arriving to the party late, but I couldn't help commenting on Dr. Who's suggestion that Paul may have been a tad too "quick on the draw" with his BS flashing. Chief Bonehead said PWK was in his 70's when he met him. Actually he was in his early 80's. This means that he had been exposed to BS for over 50 years at that point, and it wasn't just in the audio field. At General Electric (1927) he was exposed to "perpetual motion" in an advanced in-house engineering course. It was a joke, but clearly BS. In the 30's his geophysics experience in Houston was also punctuated with BS, as reflected in correspondence with both the #1 and #2 men in the history of geo-chemical oil prospecting. Can you imagine the BS he dealt with in the Army? Particularly for a guy in his late 30's? Then he enters the extremely fledgling audio field, one that necessarily combines science and art. What a mess just ripe for snake-oil!!! My point is that after 50+ years of constantly dealing with BS, I can understand if his trigger finger might have grown a bit quick. In my experience, if you approached him on a "considered level", he would always engage the subject and generally guide you into disproving your own "theory". But a cavalier, unsupported statement just might deserve a quick draw of the yellow button!

  37. I've owned a lot of Klipsch, heard even more. The rf7 is maybe my favorite (over all) up till now. I had a pair for a dozen years, loved em. The rc7 rules their centers. I had a rc64 with some 83's, nice but the rc7 was more my taste, big !

  39. If you are going to cut or grind any bolt or threaded rod to length its best to use a thread chaser or at least put a nut on the thread before cutting, it is nearly impossible to get a nut started on a mangled end of a bolt.

  40. My problem is that when it comes to XO components, I am a 100% believer in whatever was the last article/post I read. That's why I am a believer in expert opinions because they have already done the R&D. There seems to be no need for me to reinvent the wheel. The only problem I have with that approach is that the person giving us the wisdom might have a preference for a certain sound and maybe I am looking for something else. For instance I like and know very well what a brass instrument is supposed to sound like, and to get that sound you really have to have a "forward" or "bright" sound. "Smooth" might not be the best sound for me, I dunno. Speaking for myself I think I am driving myself crazy splitting hairs in sound and chasing windmills.

  41. Moving a headquarters to a major city has become a necessary strategy to attract and retain top talent. While it is possible to keep the craftspersons who build the speakers in Hope, marketing, finance, sales, and other professionals will not relocate to small rural communities. Also, I am sure there is a need for integration of the employees of Klipsch with the other components of the parent company which would be more difficult without the relocation. Younger employees seek out active social lives, parents want their children to go to top elementary and secondary schools. These needs are more difficult to provide in rural communities. This is not a knock on Hope. After all they produced a President! Nonetheless, the relocation was probably a business necessity.

  42. We all know and respect where PWK started out and have a strong appreciation for the craftsman that have built the finest decade after decade, but if you are going to shake trees and pound chests you really have to throw Indy in the mix to see how far things have come and what level they are on now.

  43. They have done one in conjunction with Dolby sound, it's awesome. I suggested the same thing ten years ago, but just recently learned that the theaters charge a lot of money for doing that. They have the trailer, which are 20 and 40 seconds in the movie biz, in some theaters and are expanding.
    1 point
  44. Klipsch tends to understate its own existence relying (preferentially?) upon word of mouth acknowledgements. Across this country nearly every movie theater uses Klipsch product. A simple 30 second trailer spot pointing out the source of the sound system to be enjoyed prior to each showing would seem invaluable.
