  1. You might be familiar with Lucas electrical systems. Here is a little Lucas, "Prince of Darkness" humor: The Lucas corporate motto: “Get home before dark.” If Lucas made guns, wars would not start. Lucas holds the patent for the short circuit. Lucas – Inventor of the intermittent wiper. Lucas – Inventor of the self-dimming headlamp. The three position Lucas switch – Dim, Flicker and Off The Original Anti-Theft Device – Lucas Electrics. Lucas is an acronym for Loose Unsoldered Connections and Splices Lucas denies having invented darkness. But they still claim “sudden, unexpected darkness” The other three switch settings–SMOKE, SMOLDER and IGNITE. Lucas dip-switch positions: LOW and BLOW The original anti-theft devices–Lucas Electric products. “I’ve had a Lucas pacemaker for years and have never experienced any prob… Did you hear about the Lucas powered torpedo? It sank. Lucas systems actually uses AC current; it just has a random frequency. Back in the ’70s Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn’t suck. Why do the English drink warm beer? Because they have Lucas refrigerators.

  10. Just purchased a nice pair of Cornwall 1s and am looking for Recommendations for a tube amp and pre or a tube integrated to drive them with. I'm not a fan of Rogue Audio's Integrateds and would like to keep it close to 4 grand. I am planning on given a listen to the Forte 3s when they come out as the wife would significantly prefer a pair of those in the living room, so something that would match nicely with those as well would be great.

  11. Received this electrically and cosmetically restored masterpiece MC225 on Saturday. Due to the fantastic weather here and grand children commitments, just got to hook this up today. Source is an OPPO BDP-105D, preamp is a Mcintosh C-32. I have to say that I am seriously stunned at how good this unit sounds, and it's not even "broken in"....I thought my MC30's and MC240 were terrific in their own right, but wow, this is one beautifully musical piece. The clarity from top to bottom is just magic, and the low end is incredible. Ran it through it's paces with some live Clapton, Sonny Landreth/Derek Trucks, and of course some Steely Dan and Tower of Power on the Khorns, La Scala's and (temporarily) Cornwalls. I'm going to put some Heresy II's on it later today, and I know it's going to be great with those as well. I can just about guarantee that if you put one of these on a pair of Heritage speakers, you won't even consider a sub, it's that good......

  13. Okay, the second one is done except for installing mid, tweeter and crossover and stretching brown cane grill cloth (owner will do that). These babies are 200lbs at least. Ready to work on next project - taking components from two RC7 and putting in WWT alignment in new vertical cabinet with birdseye maple veneer. Much easier.

  19. Cut the spades off, use bare wire and install some new connectors if you install the old woofer. Another option is to get some male spade connections to match the female ends you have, simply unhook as needed.

  22. I have the capability of running all 3 of the amp configurations through Khorns, La Scala's and another pair (currently Cornwalls). 1 amp to 1 pair of speakers through a switch I had custom made. My initial impression is this.....the 225 is the best, most musical amp I own. The 7591 power tubes provide a low end that is pretty surprising. As described above, the clarity from top to bottom is amazing. Don't get me wrong, the MC30's are absolutely terrific, but they sound slightly veiled compared to the 225, and that may very well be because of the "newness" of the 225, but the tube set is all vintage high end, as are all of my Mc amps. The soundstage and instrument placement through the 225 is fantastic. Can you tell that I like it?

Still the most beautiful pair I've ever seen. Hey did you ever end up picking up those K-horns you were telling me about? If so, what are your thoughts?

  26. Lots of great gear recommended. I had written a nice long post but I guess I messed up some how. Anyways. I would just add a couple of things. I like my tube gear to have great tone and what I consider to be a nice tube like sound. Personally I found all the Audio Research gear I've heard in the last 20 years to be on the analytical side of the scale. I'd put Shindo on the other side, the warm, great tone side. I found Decware to be on the analytical side not to far from Audio Research gear. Leben I'd put on the Shindo side. CJ gear is just to fuzzy for me but I haven't heard any of there stuff in the last 10 years. Line Magnetic, despite being from China, pretty nice gear. Great build quality and sound. My only problem with them is that they seem to always be having some grey market/counterfeit/dealers not knowing what tubes are currently coming in there amps problems. Leben gear I just love. It's fantastic I've heard the CS300, CS600, the rs660p, the RS30eq, and their full function preamp. Just amazing gear, but really pricey. I read your speaker thread. You'll love those Cornwalls. I think we have pretty similar tastes. I'm also anxiously awaiting Forte 3 but either way I will never be parting with my 85 Cornwalls. I wouldn't do much to mod those Cornwalls either. Just replace the caps in the crossovers with some good ones. I'm going to redo mine with Jupiter Flat Stacks this summer when work slows down.

  36. I like to rock out with my Cornwall 1's occasionally. I just finished repairing my CJ mv45 which is an el34 push pull amp from around 1980. I hooked it to the Cornwalls with a CJ preamp, PV-2. I use a homemade idler drive 16" broadcast table and use CDs. The approximately 45 watts with corns in any room I have tried just flat out rocks! Big fairly open sound. I used to run the el34s strapped in triode which gets about 22 watts. Still enough to get high spl with the Cornwalls. I've also got good results with 100 wpc SS and also with class D. The actual amp/preamp has more to do with the results than which type or class of amp you are using. Tubes are great fun but so are the other types.

  37. There's audio dorks out there that will drop 4K like a dirty sock on audio gear. I visited local retired AE once and he had a friends 7000 dollar Dynaudio Contours just hanging around. I asked if he wanted them back, being the value of them. "He doesn't care."

  39. just a general get together of people into audio and gear. sometimes there are demonstrations and comparisons and tutorials on different matters realting to stereo. everyones in invited, there is stuff for sale, gear, records, turntables ,tube stuff etc. its in a big mill building, 2-3 floors sometimes.(depends on whats available for unused space.) people bring food, and stereos to set up and listen to. Its an all around good day if your into audio, ht, 2ch etc. no audio snobbery, good people to chat with. you can bring a system to show off if youd like, you would need to bring your own table for such things. Usually theres a guy there that checks minor gear issues and does minor repairs or you can work something out if its bigger repair issues. Come and have a good time, bring a friend.

  41. I might have some assorted junk... I can post a picture but, need to drag things out. I have a dbx BX-3 amp, smaller brother to the BX-1. It's a configurable 2,3,4 channel amp. I used it to biamp the Jubilee's and it worked like a charm. Now with the extra Crown's I've bought (with XLR inputs) the dbx is in the closet. I'll know more by this weekend but I might also have a Lexicon DC-One (preamp) with remote (it's in system now... I might replace it) If I replace the Lexicon, I might also have a Peach with stock wooden case and an extra case in (dovetailed Walnut. It was his last one as I recall and it's never been put in use). Also have a dbx subharmonic synthesizer Unsure on all the prices... I'm in the ballpark of: BX-3: $500 DC-1: $100 Peach: TBD dbx 120 (need to check to make sure it's a DS series): $100 Two HDMI cables, around 24/25 feet in length (each): $10.00 (each) Seem to have GE insignia on them (as in General Electric which I find interesting) metal braid wrap that has a clear vinyl type covering on it, showing the braided wrap. This comment is more for my memory... I should have a Sony 5-disk CD changer and, I should have the remote for it. I'll double check (it's supposed to be in the same closet as the other goodies) This thread has me thinking of something that is going to annoy my wife! to get pictures, I need to pull things out. I think I'll pull them out and wire them up to my LaScalas for a while!! Heck...if I still have it (hopefully not) I might be able to drag the Danley DTS down with me however, I won't do it unless I know it's sold. Even then, I'm not sure I want to pull the (uncovered) trailer that we have both ways... Still...it's something I'm mulling over. (maybe could have Roy take it into the chamber & curve it to get some PEQ's to mate with some of his plug ugly speakers!!)

  42. Yes, to the Hammond, but no DHTs. Thanks for asking though. Also, thanks to everyone who made inquiries. The Little Smoothies, Little Sweeties, and a couple of others are gone; the Little QTs, and some others, are still available although a number of guys are giving them consideration. Send a PM with your requirements if interested. There may be something which will satisfy your needs. Maynard

  43. No comparison. The RB-61 II is a far superior speaker. Better build quality, parts, drivers, crossovers...the R-15M is a copper colored icon speaker. Go the 61's.

  45. Final: On the theater, all is in and working; down to final wiring cleanup and bundling. Now on to the TUBA. Lots of lessons learned about a home theater. Any way thanks to all those who assisted in the process. One general suggestion: Use only top spec Ethernet and HDMI cables since distance is a serious problem with lessor cables and whenever possible limit the number of connectors since they can cause impedance bumps and are sources of signal degradation; far better a single long wire then several shorter ones with connectors. As TV bandwidths grow this is an ever increasing problem.

  46. Your quick glance and immediate disapproval is unjust. Look further into the system and you will see that you're paying for much more than a uncompressed wireless speaker system. They are pushing the envelope to the max with these because they have integrated amplifiers. Each speaker has an independent, customized amplifier designed to play these speakers to the max without worrying about things like tuning (due to AVR manufacturer differences) and having a steady power supply (as a good portion of AVRs are not great at dividing many channels and sending its "designed power max" efficiently. Usually to get this power management, you'd need a pre-amp (and possibly a processor) to ensure everything is proper. As for driver size, its 4.5". Instead of driving the larger ones like on the 280F, they chose to just double the drivers on the towers. I haven't purchased it yet, but judging from the performance my bookshelf's provide, their decision is likely well founded and provided good results. My quick glance and disapproval on cost is certainly justified when you consider other offerings from other companies for speakers and amplification that would decimate what is being advertised here. I understand this is a first step for Klipsch, but to seriously sit there and argue that it's a great value is absolutely laughable. Comparing the price to wired speakers at this point in time these may not be as good a value. If you compare them to other wireless options these speakers ROCK. I returned a SONOS 5.1 system for two towers and a hub for around the same money. SONOS has lots of features which are nice, but only does optical audio and not all TV's even the newest support Dolby or DXT through the optical port. This is a very common problem in the wireless market. In many cases all your other systems have to plug into the TV, so you loose even DVD, Gaming or TV internet box support for anything but stereo. For those of us who want or need to go wireless for various reasons, this is a Huge advancement.
