Happy New Year. I hope everyone has a great year and we meet in Hope. Starting off the year right with a cup of Kona. Later today when it gets above freezing I may brave the weather and start taking down the house lights. The holidays are officially over and it's time to go full speed ahead into the new year.5 points

Ok, so my brother in law is here for the Holiday. Lives about an hour south of New Orleans, lost everything in Katrina...never been known (by me) to be into anything music other than maybe listening to the radio. We were talking while a ballgame (or something) was on the TV, speakers were silent... he asks me if I've ever heard of Harry Chapin? (yes, have a couple CD's and saw him in concert about a year prior to his death)... "His brother has a nice CD out with some nice songs, including one with some great harmony's..." Went out to his truck, brought it in and I played it. (this was day before yesterday) Don't you know that most of yesterday, I was cursed with this song stuck in my head and I could hardly wait to get home to listen to the harmony's again... then this morning....again... I don't know if this can be downloaded, but if it can and you like a nice song that could be released today (in my opinion) Harry Chapin, A Celebration in Song, Volume I by, The Chapin Family, live in concert. Song is "Remember When the Music". It's done in 3 (4?) part harmony by the daughters/nieces in the family and they do a beautiful version of the song (which I happen to already think is a good song) The rest of the CD is nice enough... basically a replay of a Harry Chapin concert, being led by his brothers and using some/most (all?) of the original band including Big John Wallace whom was spotlighted in Mr. Tanner. I still can't get those girls out of my head.3 points

City was ablaze with aerial fireworks. Any excuse is good here to light the fuse. Luckily there was enough wind this year to avoid getting smoked out. Plus big rain from about a week ago mitigated fire hazards.2 points

The AA was used until 1982 I believe. Also the K55M started in 1980, but if the mids are 401's, which it appears like it might be with the glimpse of ribs, then someone has completely updated this one. I don't think the 401's came around until '86 or '87. I bet is sounds great and looks good too.2 points

The thing I find most incredible about LaScalas is how quiet they can be played yet still completely engage you in the music. ....and THEN you dial it up and create a tsunami in your teacup!2 points

Thanks Mike, I actually feel blessed by the job offer. I've been self employed for 25 years, not sure I want to work for someone else, but the guy has upped his original offer quite a bit. I hope 2018 bring you and Gia wonderful things. Thanks Chuck, I believe 2018 will be a good year. Hah....he sure has an impressive hand shake also! Yes he was. He was quoted by two of my brothers at their daughter's wedding day speech...."if you can't have a good time around this gang, there's something wrong with you"2 points

I didn't notice it on that list... but, on his Greatest Stories Live CD, there is an extra track on the end "The Shortest Story". It's a bit of a somber song... he was deeply into trying to help world hunger. I have a little voice in the back of my head that he might have been one of the early people trying to start some form of world organization to help hungry people (??) None the less.... go find that song and give it a listen. Just make sure you're in a good emotional place. My wife would hate to hear the song.... it would depress her. I personally think we need to experience some things like that in life to help keep us sensitive to some realities that we might otherwise be a bit numb to. Don't know why but I find the bell rather somber and giving a feeling of being alone. Lyrics: I am born today The Sun burns a promise In my eye Mama strikes me And I draw a breath and cry Above me a cloud Slowly tumbles through the sky I am glad, to be alive It is my seventh day I taste the hunger And I cry My Brother and sister Cling to Mama's side She squeezes her breast But it has nothing to provide Someone weeps, I fall asleep It is twenty days today Mama does not hold me Anymore I open my mouth But I am to weak to cry Above me a bird slowly crawls across the sky Why is there nothing Now to do but die?1 point

Interesting thread. I also use the RC62 centre. I find it very clear and neutral for dialogue, however I have found Audessey generally sets it a bit low, so I have adjusted it. I have to agree with statements about the soundtracks, they are not created equal. I find many have background and effect sounds far too high in relation to dialogue. Others are just mixed funky. We watched a couple movies yesterday and I had to slightly alter the centre levels with both of them. Once we are finished, I move it back to where we leave it for regular TV.1 point

Look carefully and you might spot the extent of Klipsch penetration into the public living spaces permitted by my bride. The Klipsch iGroove connected by Bluetooth to iPad, phone, etc., provides all the music she needs/tolerates in spaces seen by non-family members. The second photo provides a glimpse into the clutter tolerated in my basement lair.1 point

I probably already said it....I turn on dozens of tubes every day at my recording studio, most of them are tubes I put in equipment as I got it restored and online, most of it online 15+ years at this point. Tubes that have died or been replaced for any reason? Less the 6 probably. The Fender Bassman I rebuilt in 1997 has EL34's in it....used Mullards that came out of a retired Altec PA amp. That Fender was used for many years of rehearsals and gigs, still gets used in the studio regularly, same tubes. Must have 40+ years on them. But a 90 day warranty on tubes is another thing, it speaks to the reliability of modern tubes.1 point

You will definitely have presence, as well as punch and serious impact. Stepping down of course but in the right smallish room, that system I am sure could hold it's own. Enjoy your toys, Bill1 point

Well, apparently, one could go around the world in 80 days in 1872. I used to have one 30 watt and one 40 watt McIntosh amp, used them heavily, and never changed a tube.1 point

I believe I have a pair, pretty sure one works as it should and the other tweeter needs a diaphragm. $75 shipped to you and pics below. Tim1 point

Interesting tradition since in the south it is not only black eyed peas and greens, it is also for consumption on New Year's Day, not the day before.1 point

I just got a pair of R-26FA's for Christmas. Each Speaker needs 4 wires. Red/Black front on lower terminals, and Red/Black on (Extra SP1) F. Presence / Zone 2 (as labeled from your Yamaha RX-V683 manual on line. I bought some banana plugs at Best Buy and put them on either end of the speaker wires. You have to remove the little plug on speaker to use them. It makes disconnecting either end much quicker. I just started putting together a home theater myself: Yamaha Aventage RX-A760 R-26FA's R-12SW Looking for a center speaker next...1 point

When I first read the problem, I was thinking this as well. @Niterox I don't know your Yamaha so I don't know the verbiage, it's a little different from company to company. I know the Marantz and Onkyo AVR's. What you are looking for is the listening mode, ie Stereo, Dolby D, PLII, etc. Specifically my Onk a mode for PL II Cinema, and PL Music. The Music setting throws the sound outward to the L/R, the Cinema mode sends most sound, in particular the voices to the center speaker. Check the settings in your Yammie and choose the Cinema mode if you have one, see if that helps. I think it will. Edit: I just checked the specs on the RX-V683. It has a mode called "Silent Cinema" and another mode called "Dialog Lift." I don't know exactly what those do, but it sounds like may be what you're looking for to enhance dialog. Check your manual. https://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/rx-v683_u/specs.html#product-tabs1 point

Don't blame the speakers blame the recording and mixing engineers. I have the same issues and I have a hot rodded La Scala center with 200 watts feeding it and six other big Klipsch Heritage speakers. Not all soundtracks are like this but a good number are.1 point

Some directors purposely lower the dialog to play under the musical score or action... I've never understood this technique but the fact is, it is prevalent.1 point

Probably felt it a good idea to install a matched quad instead of a matched pair with two older, questionable tubes. It's what I would have done.1 point
