  1. I'm sorry to say but it takes me back 40 years looking for things you can only find only on the Darkness on the Edge of Town, on suicide machines. If anyone every ask if you have ever smoked a joint you can always just say I went to college back in the 60's, 70's. Now over 70 don't even drink regular coffee, decafe.

  3. Noticed that recently. No biggie, just something numerical with amount of posts or likes. With your hunger for the how and why and that first thread documenting your fascinating RF-7-MK IIs you're closer than you'd think to it! Heck you haven't even been hanging out here a year yet have you? Blood Sweat & Tears.... I had just forgotten how complex their music was with the brass, the funk, & the rock in perfect harmony. The airwaves left me behind sometime twenty years ago with the noise they were playing. BS&T weren't on them anymore anyhow like they were when I had the radio on six hours a day every day. Those impeccable Russians doing the Chicago tunes had one of theirs up at youtube last year then I got a couple with my boatload. Cleared the cobwebs a little! Positive and happy uplifting tunes!

  8. That may have been a pair of my drivers. I bought a set of RF-3's and 2 of the 4 drivers were dented/creased. (Same drivers as the RC-7) So, I bought 4 new drivers, and listed the 2 good drivers on here a little while back. (I still have the 2 creased ones.... would make a great driver set for a DIY garage speaker for someone... or perhaps a set of compact subs for a bandpass box so you wouldn't notice the slightly jacked-up cones!) Here's the link to where I bought the replacements... $69 each + shipping. However, they are currently out of stock... go figure. https://www.simplyspeakers.com/klipsch-replacement-speaker-woofer-1011974.html New vs. Old drivers. They sound identical, however, I'm sure there are some minute measurable differences that people would love to argue over...

  9. My first mountain bike was a GT that I had back in college( 90's) I destroyed that when I started getting airborne for more than a little curb hop. Then, I bought a trek 4900.... I replaced just about every part on that bike before retiring it to just an easy trail riding bike. Then, I built up a Jamis Komodo Frame (pictured).... that could actually handle what I was trying to do!

  13. Felt like gettin a bit horney... Just a bit. Blood, Sweat & Tears is a Canadian-American jazz-rock music group fomed in 1967. They are noted for their combination of brass and rock band instrumentation. The group recorded songs by rock/folk songwriters such as Laura Nyro, James Taylor, the Band and the Rolling Stones as well as Billie Holiday and Erik Satie. They also incorporated music from Thelonious Monk and Sergei Prokofiev into their arrangements. 1972's New Blood" is the first disc following the departure of lead singer David Clayton Thomas has it moments. The band vocals on "Touch Me" and the arrangement of Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage" are among the highlights but then thee is Bob Dylan's "Down in the Flood" and Steve Katz's "Velvet." Toss in Carole King's "Snow Queen" just smoothed things out even more. Instead of relying on others for tunes the guys decided to keep some of the money in the group. David Clayton Thomas penned "Go Down Gamblin" on BS&T 4 released in 1971. Did need some horns and was nosin a bit and grabbed a couple. Who knows maybe somethings up tonite? Full Moon???

  14. Unfortunately those speakers are worth more parted out than put together and with H-3's selling at you asking price lately I'm sure that's the route you'll end up going. Good news is these parts will go to good use and someone will pick up the empty cabinets and they will be born again, possibly as super heresys? Anyway good luck with your sale!

  15. Why would you pull everything if you have the original box from Klipsch? If anything, pack everything in the original box, and then put that in another slightly larger box with some extra padding and you should be fine. (And meet the UPS double box requirements for insurance if it is damaged in shipping.) The only entity that benefits from shipping everything separately is the shipping company. Plus, you have that many more packages that could get damaged/lost/stolen/etc. I shipped my old black RC-7 (when I found my Cherry RC-7) this way and it made it from Illinois all the way to Oregon without any issues.

  16. I tried this years ago and my post lasted about a day before I got frustrated with the responses and just parted the speakers out. But, let's see if things are different this time around. I have a pair of 1981 HWO Heresys with angle risers and the most sought after version of the K55V; the soldered terminal, dual phase plug version. Theoretically, these should be the smoothest sounding Heresys from the golden age of Klipsch. They're $1,000. I'll give them a couple weeks, and if they don't sell, I'll part 'em out. Even after eBay fees, I'll do better than my asking price parting them out. These are pickup only in 53560, just West of Madison, WI. Again, if I have to box these up, I'll just part them out. I've done nothing with these speakers except let them sit in a spare room. No stains, but a few chips...still living room worthy. These would look gorgeous oiled up with 0000 steel wool...once a day for a week, once a week for a month, and once a month for a year. Lol, I think HornEd shared that trick with me, and it WORKS. Those who have worked with me before know I'm a pretty reasonable guy. My intention is not to come off harsh, but I don't have time to do math with guys who will inevitably say they're not worth the money. But, those are the same guys who get angry when speakers get parted out... Get a pair of subs with these and have a system that will rival Klipschorns. Seriously. Thanks guys. Jeff

  22. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/09/18/coronavirus-idaho-pastor-icu/ Sadly this national story is from my own neighborhood. I’d like to say this man was the ‘village’ covid19 ‘idiot’ but I can’t. More accurately he is from a ‘village’ of covid19 ‘idiots’. It is not about religious folks. It comes right back to the inability to fix ‘stupid’. This place is loaded with them. This morning we have a report of covid19 in one of our elementary schools. Just 30 miles west, Washington has tough mask laws in place that everyone complies with. Here their mandate is toothless and from day 1 the police boasted that they’d not conduct any enforcement of the rules. Honestly I have to wonder if there’s not some sort of discrimination in play. Discrimination against the elderly and the infirm whom are far more susceptible to covid19. We are held hostage by a community that has a mask mandate that it’s leadership refuses to enforce. Whether intentional or otherwise this circumstance impacts select individuals and they know it and they do not care. This is a retirement community with many long term care facilities. Already we’ve had covid19 in 1 of these places. The only business providing ‘reasonable accommodation’ is Costco that opens early for the elderly/infirm and strictly enforces mask usage. Hopefully these people are more lucky than any degree of smart and covid19 will not blow up. But they are seriously tempting a fate they will deeply regret should it occur.

  24. I have listened to these in the past. They’re very ‘beamy’ meaning that to enjoy their best performance I needed to sit in the sweet spot. I lost much of their performance away from that singular location.

  25. If getting rid of this turns out to be more difficult or involved than planned, this is a route that comes into play. I originally got this particular center to mate with another and use as L/R mains. Always a fallback I guess. It would also match my bookshelf speakers closer (without the black dust cover).

  26. Zitan , Where do you live? Soldering at this level is easy and cheap. No crossover redesign is warranted. You are not too likely to hear much difference for less than the value of the speakers. Replace, or have a local electronics shop replace the capacitors with nice film and foil caps. Expect around $80 per speaker for the caps, but $500 per speaker could be spent. A constant impedance network is of no value to solid-state amps. SET, yes, but for almost any others, no. The simple networks in a Heresy I cause minimal phase shift and the components are tough enough to use them. I'd keep them; I've kept mine. John Allen's A-55-G measures better than a K-55-V. Some even think it sounds better. I think I read they were all out of stock until 2021 sometime. Keep your K-55. B&C DE120 based tweeters are smoother and sillier sounding than a K-77-?. They are a real upgrade for your Heresies. To get the most out of it, the horn mouth must be flush with the front of the cabinet. I'm running Fastrac tweeter horns that flush mount and like them a lot. DaveA's latest iteration.of his tweeter horn is fabulously well made, tests well and everybody likes them. They flush mount, too. If your woofers don't rattle or make funny noises, they are good. Keep them. A Klipsch employee told me a Heresy III/IV. woofer, K-28? Would be an upgrade. Better to check all the cabinet joints for dried out glue and leaks than to replace a working woofer.

  28. I bought my first Denon receiver in 1991, a DRA-825r and was amazed how it sounded with a pair of Marantz Imperial 7(b?) speakers. A few months later I had a chance to take a new pair of forte IIs home and was blown away how thew combo sounded. I admit I have never had the opportunity to listen the the other receiver but I would not hesitate using a DRA-825r for two channel and forte's

  31. Only thing I'd ever upgrade my 81 Heresys to would be Cornwalls or LaScalas and you better believe the soldered K-55Vs from the Heresys would come along for the ride.

  33. I’d agree that covid19 wasn’t ‘man-made’. But I am still unconvinced that China did not release a naturally occurring virus and weaponized it by spreading it internationally. China still refuses to allow any western investigations into Wuhan or their virus research lab in Wuhan.

  35. I gave up on Ebay bidding even with bid snipping. One time and one time only have I won a bid that I benefited from. Most of the time it was buy it now. That one time I won was with my 79 Cornwalls that I still own today. Luckily they were local, the description read Klipsch speakers with blown twitters. I offered him $650.00 to cancel auction, he declined and I ended up winning them for around $575.00.

  40. Cool thread. After 40 years of no bike riding (peddle bike) I bought a Diamondback Sorrento earlier this year. I actually like riding more than I thought I would. I bought the wife a Trek and my daughter a Specialized. Mine is a mountainbike, theirs are hybrid. Our little town recently turned an old railroad track into a walking/bike trail...it's currently 12 miles long, with a future connection to Indy. We ride a couple times a week, just cruising, but I'll go by myself just to get a better workout. My niece and my nephew will ride also, it's fun with a group, but don't expect to get a lot of miles in, just casual riding.

  41. The latest BluRay I viewed was over at my son's new home theater that we still have under construction: He popped in a 4K copy of the newly-remastered, 'Top Gun". On his 82" Samsung QLED display, we were simply amazed by the breathtaking picture quality and detail they have been able to recapture. And the sound track, which is now mixed for Dolby Atmos, is a definite improvement over the now-ancient, original release. There is now much better steering of the sound stage, deeper bass and improved definition, especially in the dialogue. However, the engineers kind of overdid the surround echo tracks during the dialogue-only scenes taking place below-decks, aboard the ship. It actually can be annoying at times. We even tried adjusting the surround channel levels during the movie, but to little avail. But, let's face it: For a movie released in 1986, this was one of the very first movies that actually started the whole "Home Theater Craze"! Overall, for 'Top Gun' fans, the disc is a must have! It was almost like viewing the movie again, for the first time, only better! - Glenn
