  1. I know nothing about guitars, but can replay them. The first thing to go in the shop, sound, the electrical inspection is not far off so no power besides extension cords. laptop, HDMI to receiver, streaming music.

  2. I got these in a trade a few months back when I sold a larger set of speakers. They were used by my dad in house shop for about 6mths. He did not want to give these back to me but needed extra room for other equipment (he has KP-301's) . These are currently sitting in storage and it's time to move them on to someone who will enjoy them (I have split La Scala's) . So that covers the "why are you selling question". Now to the details. This is a very nice pair of industrials that have been gone through by a forum member who does good work! They have Dave A’s smahl tweeter with the de-120 driver. The woofers were also replaced with Eminence Kappa 15c. Rebuilt AA crossovers. The Dog houses are braced and are panted with Duratex. These speakers sound fantastic. I really hate to let them go but it time to fund other projects. These are currently in storage so the pics I have are the ones from when I got them, they look the same! I'm located in Bentonville Arkansas and will not ship, local pickup only. $1750 gets em. Don't bother with low ball offers or negotiations the price is what the price is if you like Pro La Scala's these won't disappoint.

  3. Welcome to the forum @TnGuy, and congratulations on your purchase. I can see how the terminals on your main speakers will confuse you, but luckily there's an easy explanation... 🙂 Let's take the bottom set of terminals first: those are the terminals for the main speaker, and if you look carefully, you will see that the two sets of terminals are actually bridged together with metal straps. You can connect your front left and right channels on your receiver to either of these sets of terminals. I normally just connect to the bottom pair. So for the left Front channel, connect black from your receiver Front Left channel to black on the bottom terminal and red to the red, etc. Don't remove the metal straps, as these are bridging the tweeter and woofers together. If you wanted to power the tweeter and woofers separately, you could remove the bridging straps and connect an output from an amp/receiver to the tweeter terminal and then another output to the woofer terminal... but this is definitely not needed or recommended, and you don't have enough channels on your receiver to do this anyway. So leave the straps in place and just connect to one of the terminals. Now that you have your mains connected, let's look at the top set of terminals. These are for your Dolby Atmos height channels. The speakers are located on the top of the speaker box and are designed to fire up towards your ceiling and then reflect back down to your listening position, attempting to simulate overhead height speakers. This gets a little tricky, and I had to look it up in your owners manual to ensure I'm giving you accurate instructions. You need to connect the top terminals on your front (main) speakers to the terminals labeled "Surround Back" on your receiver. You will then go into the receiver settings and Set “Assign Mode” to “Front Dolby” in the menu for a 7.1-channel (front Dolby Atmos Enabled speaker) system. I hope this isn't too confusing, but here are some pictures from your owners manual to help explain the Atmos speaker setup: Example connections when using front Dolby Atmos Enabled speakers This 7.1-channel surround system is the same as a basic 5.1-channel system but with front Dolby Atmos Enabled speakers. Set “Assign Mode” to “Front Dolby” in the menu. link

  4. I have listened to Summertime, at least a 1/2 dozen times in the last day or two. I find the song almost perfect, the lyrics, the orchestration, the vocals, the relaxed easy pacing, just beautiful. The composer, having such an understanding of music and what appeals to the ear and brain. The rise and fall of the horns, the strings in the background, the bass line, even the little stringed flourish at the end, which i assume is a harp. As I've forgotten who created it, looked it up. Its from the play Porgy and Bess, composed by George Gershwin, back in 1935. I guess that explains that.👍

  5. I was practicing shooting 22' footers straight on when I heard a loud RIP, and the ball didn't flow through the net, it kind on wedged itself into a net seam, and instantly stretched that seam out. But the next 30 shots kept ripping the back seams. I was the only one in the gym, so it was quiet, and you could really hear that net tearing. It was the swish sound, ripping sound, and the ball jamming the net sound...MUCH louder than that swish sound. I had the time of my life in there for about 30 minutes after that first RIP of the net. Like Larry Legend took over my shooting skills. For an old half crippled guy (torn ACL, MCL left knee from a 1983 bike wreck, never fixed) (triple surgery in right shoulder 20 months ago) (decades of physical work) (10 years of baseball, basketball, football when I was a kid) thought I wasn't going to make it last year (pancreas quit working, lost 90 lbs in 5 months, think I dodged a bullet there) I thought I did great 😃 I left that gym like I was on some kind of wonder drug. My wife thought I was being goofy being so excited about something so silly (a piece of string broke is what she said happened!) What a great day it was!

  9. did her dislike for the guitar have anything to do with him being able to sing while playing it? was saxophone and clarinet code? -------------------------------------------- I may want to quiet the wind chimes today. Wind, not breeze, in the forecast today. 20mph steady. gusts to 40. Sposed to be warm, at least. 80` isn't hard to take. Still dry as. Last dew point I saw was 4`. A little fire, 80 acre, popped north of us. Good thing the wind is out of the south.

  18. Lets get this out of the way immediately. I am going to do it regardless of what you say for the sole purpose of experimenting. Any advice on placement is what I want. I have the thinner fiberglass insulation in a roll...My question is where do you think I should start? Line the walls? cut up the insulation and loosely put it in? leave room behind the subwoofer (no dampening at all behind it)? top? bottom? Wrapped around the top of the sub like the factory? I've read all about the polyfil, just curious what I should do with this insulation I somehow didn't get charged for at the hardware store. I am not a purist, I have DE120 tweeters coming in (bought the heresys and they had 4 ohm pyle garbage glued to the horns), I plan to upgrade the woofers because one of them has a tear (not audible yet) the cabs arent in great shape, the caps have bob crites caps I just installed, squaker is original, paid 160 canadian for them but with the upgrades I might be at 5-600 one day. Soooo, what is your opinion. I am concerned of placement of the insulation. on the walls, loose, openings for woofer and mid, teach me, I am 32 years old in a few days and would appreciate any advice from someone who has had success with improving the sound from a heresy 2. Dare I say improve the bass??? I know all about the subwoofer recommendation, just let me try it this way for myself. I know all about how big the cabinets are. I am bored and willing to try. Getting the Delta subs is a possibility one day too, keep that in mind. Thanks

  26. When the speakers were put in there there was only one empty table, the echo was bad. Just a few other things helped some so I am hoping once all the tools get in there they will help? The day I put them in I had it turned up, our daughter was by the house about 75' away and said I kind of like the echo sound. No loctite but it's tight, right up until something starts to rattle. Have to have music, when we were building the frame there was what is about equal to a clock radio on the table, this is a little better. Those speakers were under the side patio covered and used for the yard, now they have a home but they can still be rolled to point out a door or picked up with the tractor for outside. I just have a problem letting go of speakers.

  27. A little update. During winter, it is pretty cold up in my den, so I decided to move my Leben CS300 and my Heresies downstairs to the living area. They have been there for five or six weeks and this is my primary music system. I listen to it all day, spinning vinyl, CDs and streaming. All this time I have used the Gold Lion tubes, which are not original. They sound fine, of course. But today I decided to do some tube rolling and put the original Sovtek 12AX7A tubes in. At age 52, my hearing is far from perfect, so I find it difficult to A/B. Perhaps the Sovteks give a bit more detail in the high frequencies and a bit more channel separation? Other than that, I can't say I hear much difference. The former owner told me he replaced all the tubes because one channel dropped in volume from time to time. He didn't know what tube was to blame, so he replaced them all. I'll be listening to the Sovteks all afternoon and see what happens when they get really up to temperature. One of the issues I had early on, was noise when I turned the Bass Boost nob. This had improved, just by using the nob moderately. But now with the original Sovtek tubes, the noise is completely gone. My technical knowledge doesn't go far enough to explain this, though. Also, just for testing, I connected the Leben CS300 to my 40 year old two-way, floorstanding Onkyo speakers. They are 4 ohm and sounded amazingly well with the Leben. The Genalex Gold Lion is a fine looking little tube, by the way.

  29. Nice, it's always nice to have music playing while you're working, especially at home. Your choice of a first speaker is impressive. Just think..some people are happy with a clock radio.

  30. @BigStewMan when do you get your guitar? I think you'll be impressed with the overall finish, especially the banding.....for some reason that just makes a Les Paul, IMO. I tried a LP Tribute (poor man's LP) it was ok, just didn't POP like a real LP, it has no banding. Actually the edge on a Les Paul Tribute reminds me of s Strat, finished rounded wood.

  33. They have been out there over a week now, and it has been played loud a few times, quite the echo for now but once all the tools go in and a little insulation on the West wall it will be better, sounds good enough for now as I work on it. Just glad to have it going even to this point. There will be no electrical out there not on a GFIC, just to be safe. Only thing left on electrical is install the GFIC outlets at the beginning of each run and finish extending and hiding the hanging light cords 4 of those left and the inspector can come by. 10, 4' led lights light it up like daylight. .

  37. my Cornwall 1980 sounded muffled 10 years ago , the highs and midrange were dull -and the sound was vague , the tweeter or the midrange sounded like 100$ speakers -the HF and mids were lacking , LF was very boomey ---total lack of clarity --capacitors replaced ----and the Highs sparkled and the midrange cleared up with detail - Now oddly , my Heresy 1 -1977 and 1980 are as good as they were 40 years ago , I know the caps are old , but damn do these speakers sound amazing and I am hooked on that sound ---

  38. I got an IK Multimedia iRig 2, that you can plug into your cell phone, and run effects apps on the phone and listen on headphones (or out to an amp). Haven't tried it with a guitar yet, mainly got it to plug in a mixer to feed higher quality mic's while I shoot camera videos. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/iRig2--ik-multimedia-irig-2-guitar-interface-for-ios-and-mac?mrkgadid=3301332572&mrkgcl=28&mrkgen=gpla&mrkgbflag=0&mrkgcat=studio&recording&acctid=21700000001645388&dskeywordid=92700046938536038&lid=92700046938536038&ds_s_kwgid=58700005285190773&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000007215323&dsproductgroupid=427705235901&product_id=iRig2&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid=&device=m&network=g&matchtype=&adpos=largenumber&locationid=9011130&creative=280136033938&targetid=aud-842883315258:pla-427705235901&campaignid=1465808290&awsearchcpc=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0eK-3--S7wIVDIaGCh3qgAw9EAQYAiABEgKvp_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

  40. bio fuels are bad for diesels - yes they're made from hydrogenated oils, restaurant oils, etc and blended into diesel - they clog filters, lower BTU, and if left in a tank for extended periods (3-4 weeks) they can start to grow algae! ethanol is equally garbage for gasoline engines. it can be lethal to small engines like lawn mowers and handheld tools. Stihl products will fail in a season if using pump fuel - but will run for decades on ethanol free fuel. higher content than 10% of ethanol can cause internal plastics to fail, gaskets to swell and fail etc. get as pure as you can, as often as you can.

In reality it’s very seamless and a godsend having some of those features & settings I have a fantastic phono stage on my Nakamichi CA5II and when the Puffing is tweaked to the right setting it can sound as good or better All the recent features & settings on the firmware have probably given the Puffin the edge and every time new firmware is released the unit just gets better If you have a chance - you should at least give in a try My unit is a fairly early production model Serial #290
