  4. In my experience, having lots of horsepower in the rear didn't make much difference...if any at all. I had Khorns front with LaScala rear and found that I just as well use my Heresy in the rear. My point, is don't feel like you have "less than" in the rear.

  6. Yea, had the entire right side of the garage sittin in the driveway yesterday. Talk about a hoot? I paced myself well spending time sittin and thunkin HOW I could get it all back in to make it easier to get out and use. Factor in my hoarding? WHY did I have a stack of about 25 empty cardboard lp boxes? Even found a new golf umbrella! I put it by my golf bag, which hasn't moved in 20 years. Crazy! 😂 Rolled out at 11 today totally drained and thought it was Thursday. 😂💪 Just take it easy with that 2nd wifey Bill. No hip thrusts when ur slow dancin. You know how those Bronx wimmen respond. @Tarheel always two-sides to every coin bud. I'm sure that poor dog got his SBD's (silent but deadly's) outta Duke! What's new your way?

  9. I went the veneer route 1) it took 3 4x8 sheets of veneer to get the grain flow right 2) I found a true wood working craftsman to do the job - best decision I made 3) the woofer bin is the most difficult, you need to get a lot of weight on each inside sheet during the glue drying process we used sand bags and a piece of train rail for weight. Because of this the bin area took 4 days alone to veneer that area. Also we first painted the very back of the bin black before veneering because we could not figure out how to veneer that space and it is already dark in that area anyway. 4) you will have to decide how you will deal with the surround edges of the tweeter and squaker area. there are a couple of ways to deal with these edges but you need to decide before you start the actual veneer process as you need to match grain flow. 5) We made paper templates for each piece and then laid them out on the 4X8 sheets for grain flow very important process 6) Would I do it again Yes my 1987 La Scala's I think were used in a bar atmosphere and were really beat up with scratches and gouges everywhere. 7) we decided to put a thin layer of MDF on all outside of the speakers this helps with the resonance issue know with this age of La Scala Hope this helps and as always Enjoy The Music

  10. I'm sorry to hear that, Mark. My best friend sent me a Martin D Jr, made in Mexico model. It's been so much fun I've been playing more every day. It's actually helped my hands loosen up more. Plus, it's been good for my soul and spirit.

  13. I built this preamp to experiment with the well regarded muses volume control used in Pass Labs preamps and integrated amps. This is the preamp design from Wayne Colbourne at PassLabs offered at Burning Amp 2018 and sold on DiyAudio. I used the LPS9 power supply from Academy Audio along with an older model VCX. The result is a very musical and clean sounding preamp and I followed the App notes recommended by them. The unit has two inputs, two outputs, a headphone out, remote for volume/mute and nice illuminated power button. I used a 1U galaxy chassis from Modushop Hifi2000. I’m asking $400 plus shipping.

  15. Thank you, Dave. Yes, I do ultimately want to get them veneered. Duratex is a pretty thick texture (and not the look I’m going for), so I agree that would be a bad move. I just wonder if there is an intermediate approach that would look good and cover the bare wood + bondo look - it’s pretty terrible! Thanks again for the advice!

  17. Mornin' All ...any Good [?] news on 2nd wife. She didn't break her hip... just cracked. I think she will be discharged soon... as soon as they can get her outa there. You gotta know this ladies. From da Bronx... Things should calm down, around here, next week. I don't do well when chaos is the normal...

  18. If you plan on veneering them eventually, I’d recommend that you not paint them because you may end up having to strip the paint when it comes time to veneer. If you insist on painting them, you could use Duratex.

  22. Texas got a heck of a QB from Ohio State thru that transfer portal. @oldtimer is pretty much spot on w/his analysis @Travis In Austin. They'll start changing things up in a couple weeks. Kinda funny today. Lou Holtz stood by his statement about Ohio State being soft. Weakest team I've seen in years yet loaded with talent.. I still say they're gonna lose at least 2 and maybe three games this year. The NFL raped the O-line last fall, the QB1 hasn't gelled imo and it's trouble in river city. It's just WHEN it's gonna hit imo. Maybe Holtz is just tweeking OSU to become better? Who knows? TBH Lou has ALWAYS been respected by OSU. i'VE heard his speak several times, the last being about 4 years ago at a fundraiser/auction. I actually found it hard to believe he said what he said yet he did.

  23. Hi everyone. I have a pair of very well-loved (read ‘totally beat up’) Lascalas. In preparation for putting a veneer on them, I have had to build up every edge to a right angle as the edges were rounded. I’ve been using Bondo, working for a very long time, and they’re finally starting to look square. 😊 I’m not very skilled at working with veneer, so I’d like to paint them in the interim, until I can get the cash together to have someone veneer them for me. I would be grateful if anyone could recommend a paint (black) and process for making them look nice-ish for now. I saw an earlier thread that had the following picture and would love it if I could get to that place. Thank you!

  33. I have a fascination with the history in the 3 centuries surrounding 70 CE and how it relates to the Dead Sea Scrolls. I started a few months ago reading the Bible again using the 2 commentaries above and comparing. The "Harper Collins Study Bible" on the left is more scholarly oriented and I got for my birthday in June, while the "Jeremiah Study Bible" was given to me by a friend/student as a gift and has more of a sermon point of view. Ironically, both at the same time and not knowing about the other.

  35. This is most of my collection. With the exception of the Epiphone acoustic on the far right, I've either built or rehabbed them all. I've built about a dozen guitars from parts or kits over the years. Only four are in this picture.

  36. They have not been available for decades, now...good luck! The last ones the plant had were scarfed-up by the employees when they were told they would no longer be used. Basically, the two versions of the originals are unobtainium nowadays. But Klipsch COULD have another run of them made, it they desired to do it...it is what it is.

  37. Pie slice Klipsch logo is correct for 1975...also for 1976 speaker production...basically from 76 backwards the pie slice logo is correct, except for early 1960's and before. Also there were times when the "engraved-plexiglass" model name logos were at the bottom of a speaker and the pie-slice log was the upper corner of the speaker, but it was just for a very short time. The pie-slice logo was replaced in around October time-frame of 1977...with the metallic so-called "laser" badging. There was a reason this was done, (the pie-slice PWK log, along with his "PWK" initials rendering...both trade-marks were owned by PWK, himself, NOT by the company!). And there is ALSO a reason why the boxed "PWK" with "Klipsch" logo replaced the so-called "laser logo"....which did not have "PWK" on it. The reasons are who had "controlling stock" of the company...during these time frames.

  38. In your pics you posted of the drivers...both of the mid-range drivers are K55V with the AlNiCo magnets. One of the tweeters is K77 (round AlNiCo magnet), the other is a K77-M (square ferrite mud slurry magnet).

  39. Oiled Oak veneered Chorus models. As for value it depends on if all original, all components functioning correctly and any damage done to the cabinets, grille-cloth panels, etc. Have you even LISTENED to these? If not...maybe you SHOULD...because these are very nice speakers! Even location of the seller is a factor in the "Value" of them...along with distance the buyer would need to go to pick them up or the cost of shipping them involved! Me? If I got a pair of great condition Chorus speakers...for FREE!...I would keep them and enjoy them! Once again...give them a listen!

  41. Why wait at all to do this?...it is like maybe a 1-2 hour job...and you will IMMEDIATELY hear the difference without changing a single thing on those speakers! All you need is a screw-driver or two, and a bit of di-electric grease! and some contact cleaner and paper towels!...so just DO IT...do it NOW! It is "American Black Walnut"...coloring can range from dark brown with a hit of red, all the way to almost jet black with hints of purple. European walnut is kin to it...because they are from the same "family" of trees, but so are the hickory tree varieties, and pecan varieties. So-called "European walnut" didn't even originate in Europe, it was imported there from Persia a few hundred years ago, primarily for use in furniture lumbers...and it doesn't approach the darkness of coloration that American Black walnut has. BUT, that being said ,you can use black walnut stain on European walnut to darken it. European walnut leans heavily towards the "blonde" side of natural wood coloration. See what happens when you ask these questions from a mixed timberland owner? Long line of timber people in my ancestry! So, Berlin, Germany huh? Been there, done that, way back when it was a divided city. I was a young Fallschirmjäger assigned at Mainz many moons ago! BTW, American Black Walnut is the number "1" on the wood density scale...all other woods of the world are either higher than "1" or lower than it. The wood density scale was created to provide close approximation of other woods to American Black Walnut, in order to find suitable other woods from other trees to use in creating military rifle stocks. American Black Walmut was the preferred wood for those. ME? What would I use to re-veneer a single SW for use with Heresys? Pecan crotch-wood would be a nice alternative, but still could provide a close match to American Black Walnut in most any instances! Be creative, not boring, in your wood choices, I always say! Just remember THIS, though...having beautifully veneered speakers can become a very expensive investment when the "significant other" of the household decides to get new furniture to match the speakers in the room! You have been warned!🤣

  42. The cheapest thing to do would be to keep your existing coffee maker buy a cheap burr grinder and find a local roaster to get fresh beans. Big step up in quality without a huge investment.
