Wish everything was that regular HAHA! I do everything in my house connected to coffee.......wife says I do it better. yea, I get it, stroke the old ego and I melt! "here, let me do it, honey!"

  7. Playing the devil's advocate here.....OK, slow down....lots of "go get them"... but no one has asked how much they are going for...Secondly, are they willing to play them for you? "Immaculate" speakers with bad components are no bargain at all. Take a little bit of speaker wire with you, perhaps an interconnect for your phone, and ask to use one of their receivers. Listen to them before you leave the shop if possible. Would be wonderful if you got a bargain and a nice pair of Cornwalls. Let us know.

  10. I was thinking that I could bring a few "different" items that the folks might be interested in. My pair of ClaudeJ1 Super Heresy's (or baby Cornwalls as he calls them), a vintage Pioneer SX receiver, and an interesting little Qinpu A6000 MKII tube amp that plays like a big boy....all easy to set up, and fun to listen to. Just a thought.

  13. Ya know Taz, that brings up an old memory. (I have told this before so if it's a repeat, pardon me) I had just bought my LaScalas. Had my best buddy over. They were hooked to a Yamaha CR-2040 (120/channel). I put Boston's Longtime on the TT and unbeknown to my pal, I had hit the -20db mute button on the receiver. I had the volume knob about 13. My buddy was standing about 2-3 feet in front of them. As the beginning of Longtime built & built...heading to that initial creshendo, I timely hit the "un" mute button and he jumped away from the speakers so hard he actually landed on his butt. For a couple of 19 year olds, it was pretty funny. (more funny to me than to him)

  14. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? A couple of years ago, I photographed two models in a local park and they were happy with the picture. One of them posted it online, and this remarkable review/critique appeared. My response was, "Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking when I made the image, even though it looks like I just arranged two models in an attractive pose and pushed the shutter button."

  16. Just an update....Wakejunkie's neck fusion surgery went very well and he is on the road to a complete recovery. It will still be a few months before the Dr. will release him to begin construction on the redesign. Since my last update, I purchased a second RSW-15 in Maple finish and posted details in this thread. Since this is part of the new build, I thought I would include the photos here as well.

  17. I'm about to pick up a pair of not great looking La Scala's, and plan on putting some work into them. I'm just looking for advice on a couple topics. The crossovers (type AA) look pretty old and don't seem to be in great shape, so I figure I'll replace them. Would Bob Crites AA crossover be better or ALK's universal economy? Or should I be considering a different Xover (such as AL-3, A/4500, ALK slope) since I am replacing them? I don't know anything about the differences, and am trying to keep costs down. I plan on sanding them down to remove rough spots and I'll see what the wood underneath looks like. I may re-paint them white or blue (just kidding!...some form of black) or if the wood is good, just give them a nice stain and finish. I haven't checked the drivers yet, but I'm figuring they are old. If I have to replace any, this will be a more costly project than I hoped, but if I do, I am open to suggestions on what is best. The Xover is my main question, for anyone who can help. Thanks in advance.

  19. .Back on topic. Vinyls are certainly not dead, far from it. It's everything else that's doomed. Cd's are about dead, cassettes are dead, RTR is on life support, 8 tracts are dead, and several digital formats are dead. Digital? You bet! Remember floppies? Still got all your music on the large ones, or maybe a few cuts on the small ones? Try finding something to play that on. How about ATA hard drives? Most computers these days, you have a choice, either a dvd player or a ATA drive because there are not enough slots for both, because everybody went to SATA. MP3's are a dinosaur. Now that digital space for the purposes of storage is darn well infinite, their day is done. They were designed to shrink space and they did a horrible job of it. DVD-A. SACD. Nonstarters as a mass medium whit little content. HD? For how Long? Remember Dolby? BluRay? For Music? DAC's? What will they be replaced with? How about The Cloud? Which one and for how long. What happens when industry consolidation or a bankruptcy leaves millions and billions and Tera bits of music vanishing into the netherworld, a simple key stroke from a programmer, or hell, some drone functionary, rendering all those tunes gone, gone, gone. Oh yes, the digital realm is such a safe place to put important things. Like a bank vault made of swiss cheese. Whistle while ye may, because after your zeros and ones all disappear, you'll have to entertain yourself by whistling, whilst I spin a platter.

  22. Don't know yet. I have a windows server and it plays just fine with it. My server will eventually be converted to a linux platform. There are programs to remotely control the linux computer. Here is the real question. Why not try it? You need a 6 gb partition and a blank DVD. You don't even have to install it, just run it from the DVD (understanding that it will be very slow running from a DVD) and then install if you like it. You can still put Win 7 on another partition if you like. or delete Linux if you don't like it.

  25. Samsung EVO drives are rated for 5000 hours service life, the Samsung PRO drives are rated for 10,000 hours. Just sayin. Thats why Samsung gives a 3 year warranty on the EVO and a 5 year warranty on the PRO. When this is taken into consideration the PRO is actually the better deal.

  27. Rick, I have a Scott 299C (in storage for later) , a 299D which with a new Teac CD-H750 powers a new pair of oversized Cornscala's built by Justin Weber (sounds incredible, btw!) and a Scott 272 which with the aforementioned Marantz CD player powers a pair of regular Cornscala's - {if they could ever be called regular} which is in my basement. Justin's Cornscala's are not quite broken in yet as I've only had them a couple of months, but today I played my reference CD of, I feel, the most beautiful violin music ever written - Bernard Herrmann's "Scene D'amor" from the soundtrack "Vertigo" conducted by Joel McNeely. The dynamics and presence are unbelievable! (unless you listen to a Bose system, then you're just wasting your time)

  28. Yup, I love my Kreg. In fact, I used Kreg screws to fasten the parts together (not using jig, but straight in) on the sub while the glue dried. They are like chrome drywall screws with heads that never strip.

  29. so I had a couple thoughts, tell me what you guys think..... 1st) meet up at my crib in Batavia at 3pm and head to the local record store, kiss the sky, its a pretty great store with a ton of used vinyl and cds as well as new stuff. I thought it'd be cool to head in there, Im going to extend an invite to the owner of the shop as he is a proud klipsch owner though I don't think a forum member. 2nd) I thought it could be interesting to go through the evolution of a stereo system. I still have most of the gear I started this journey with about 2 years ago. I started with a set of RF82's and a yamaha AVR (that I don't have). I then moved to separates, still solid state, which consisted of an adcom 2353 along with a Emotiva umc-1. Next I bought the cornwalls and updated the crossovers. I have the rf82s in storage for a future surround set up. Next I replaced the solid state amp with a 12w audion sterling EL34 class A amp and replaced the use of the Emotiva umc-1 with a Schitt bifrost dac with the uber upgrade. I also replaced my monster speaker cable with Kimber. At this point I was streaming via mog, later beats and then qobuz. latest addition to the system a rega p3-24 w/ a dynavector 10x5 cartridge. Just a thought, could be interesting to see how the system has changed..... has the quality improved? Maybe, maybe not.... maybe i just heard something different at each turn not necessarily better but maybe. Could be interesting..... Let me know if any of you think it would be cool or we can just play tunes and not geek out on the different gear and gadgets.

  32. Why wait... Just pull the optical cable and start using your HDMI cables... Unless you don't have HDMI..im using hdmi out to projector, but optical out to amp. amp doesn't have hdmi yet. Dude you need a new avr now! lol jk but HD audio on your rig will be a really nice upgrade. Get an avr with two hdmi outs. Run one to the projector and the other to what ever else you want. I know I do too. lol I'm working on it...planning on going up to a Marantz SR700X series.

  33. this is very interesting. I bet you will like a cornwall better. The palladium is much more refined...you may have actually acquired the sound and taste of the ultra sophisticated audiophile and your nose may be and/or get stuck upward listening to any other speaker lol The exaggeration produced in a cornwall to me is worth a lifetime a listening. Some people absolutely chose palladium on top of anything klipsch and some vice versa..there is a klipsch speaker for everybody Yes, that's exactly why I want to hear more of what Klipsch has to offer. I have a perfect room for Khorns, 17x26, and like their large presence. I love the looks of the Belles, and La Scalas look awesome also. CW, Heresy, Chorus, the models with twin woofers in front, and one woofer in back look very interesting also.

  36. I just put up the last of the 7 2' x 4' panels of pegboard wrapped in ProStar black velvet and....... IT LOOKS AWESOME! I still can't believe how much better it looks. It looks like the screen is just popping out of nowhere (except for the sides that still need to be masked). Going 4' deep on the ceiling with ProStar was the single biggest improvement for the image quality. I still have to get the Roxul R60 up on the wall behind the screen (3" is on order still), and then put up the black commando cloth for the whole wall behind the screen... I am hoping this takes it up to the next level (although i don't know how it could get much better). When I get the rear wall covered I will be removing the height channels, and moving the screen back another 2'. Then I will be shadow boxing in the last 2' with black velvet. There should be zero light reflection then as the ceiling will have 6' of velvet, the stage will be 2' deeper too. :T I ended up just using sheetrock screws angled into the sheetrock, and then covered them with scraps of the ProStar velvet.

  37. Apparently there was so much bass that it made these people stupid. Further down on the same page that you posted, this was posted: I love Ebay. I can dnif deals rof one cent 'cause its a worthless usessel product, or noone wants it anymore. I thguob 6 of these shtemeheb. Added 10 4000 watt 1 0hm loaded yknuj amps. I cant even try to fit a sandwich in ym friggin Focus anymore than I nac try to drive it on the solid rubber tires I seriously needed to maintain gnivird control. Not to mention the artxe weight of the fusion reactor needed to run all this S&%$ (got the reactor from Ebay too, sum fool tried to outbid me but beat in last millisecond rof .02$ woo-hoo) all in all it iss a eyecatcher, literrally you need a eye-catcher (a bucket or sumthin to catch yyour eyes) for high SPL levels obtained at 1 ohm, we think it reached some 240 decibels, at least thats tahw the border collie was able to take before he crapppped his brain/spine (messy)have yet to wrangle rehtona volunteer. Good speakers. Have to sell the whole package car dna all now that speaker box is melded to the cars frame from inadvertant solar flares produced by my sooooo not 100% working reactor(tried to get on off MJFox's delorean but I didnt have 5$, Shame) I can't tell whether he was really drunk or was typing with mittens on.

  38. In the UK, I believe that this was the guy that started the "great fidelity decline": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Meek In the US, I'm not sure who to pin it on, but this one comes to mind: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Spector In both cases, the guys turned out to be murderers. That's quite a testimonial: 100% of the sample population were psychopaths. I believe the era of extremely poor mastering started because of the extremely poor quality of the reproduction devices of that time: have you ever listened to an auto AM radio from that time? That, and transistor radios had something like a 1-inch cone driver--full range--to reproduce everything and without EQ or even a tone control. It went downhill from there, IMHO, and led to a culture of trashy mastering, demanded by the producers, all in the name of "sales"--and one size fits all, of course--all recordings must be trashed. YMMV. Chris

  40. We have Lowe's and HD. Our rule of thumb here is that the parking lot at Lowe's is always full but there's often no one available to help you. At HD the parking lot is vast and empty but the employees are usually excited you came. It's probably a gross oversimplification - I think I'll go for a third cup to continue my celebration of International Coffee Day! Cheers!

  45. I'll do that and post the numbers here I don't want to get very big with this cabinet. so far it's about the same size as a Volti Audio VIttora is so it should work fine. thanks for the tip. I don't want a cabinet that big, I want a optimized LS with curved side. thanks, that would also be an option. I can use 3mm BB plywood and glue them under vacuum press to shape as I want.
