  3. My wife does NOT like it when I refer to us as "hill folk". Then I remind her of when we had the septic dug up and how comfortable we are using the outdoors for all manner of "bathing".

  4. What about the other one? All cottage cheese is OK? Is one bunn what goes in a pant. since we have gone this direction ... last time I went to the grocery ... there was this pair attached to a gal. I honestly do not know what her face looked like ... The caboose had a jiggle that was PiedPiper to me. I am almost afraid to go back to the store for fear that if I see that again, I will follow it home. Didn't make the listening session. Wife brought home 8 feet of entertainment. Two kittens. They are quite a handful ... but funny as hell. The one is shy and I have had fetch him from everywhere. Pulling the fridge out, was not what I needed. Nurse Cratchet "MEDICATION!" Had to dump that pot of coffee and make some good mud. That gourmet blend of Nicaraguan and Oaxacan didn't work for me. Wife said it was better than Folger's. Now I know why she wants a cup of our day old/cold when she gets home from work.

On the news seems like they are try to make hay of this statistic concerning teen driving accidents 36% of teen driving accident occur between the hour of 9PM and 5AM. Looks like a non-story to me. 36% of accidents happen in 33% of the day. ???? and ...I hear a bunch of corporate child support lawsuits coming. Placebo birth control pills... Oh, oops!

  14. It just was not this persons day. Running away from an exploding volcano you live by , Pompeii, a giant rock lands on you smashing you into the ground, terrible luck. https://www.yahoo.com/news/m/3c84dd65-bf27-3d4d-8c6e-c82fcc35a571/ss_archaeologists-find-man.html Archaeologists find man crushed while fleeing Pompeii May 29 (UPI) -- Archaeologists discovered the fossil remains of a man crushed by a rock while fleeing the Pompeii eruption in 79 AD. Researchers believe the man was knocked backward by a thick pyroclastic cloud. A large stone dragged by the cloud hit the man in the head and chest, crushing his upper torso but leaving his lower limbs exposed. "This is an exceptional finding," Massimo Osanna, director general of the archaeological park at Pompeii, told local news Torre Sette. Researchers said the discovery of new human remains at Pompeii allows them to compare the pathologies and lifestyles of the city's early inhabitants, as well as analyze the dynamics of the populace's panicked escape.

  15. these kittens don't have any idea how much it hurts to laugh. Skidding around the wood floor. One of the missed a jump up the step and did a header into the step when his feet slid out. I thought about putting runners ... but that would be too self-descriptive.

  20. I own a UMC-200 now and other than a warranty repair for a couple of bad capacitors in the power supply, it has been rock solid. Since I purchased it new I became a member of the "25% off upgrade for life" club so I'm strongly incentivized to stay in the Emotiva line for future processors, and the XMC-1 is likely my next upgrade. Still kind of debating on the best path forward with that since I don't need 4K or Atmos and won't for a while. This means that on the one hand I don't need the upgraded boards or the features of the upcoming Gen3, so I clearly can not choose the wine in front of me, but on the other hand buying a used Gen2 right before the Gen3 upgrade is likely to cause resale issues down the line, so I clearly can not choose the wine in front of you. First world problems. Meanwhile the UMC-200/UPA-7 combo is a nice little performer than came in for less than $1,200 all together and it just keeps on keeping on.

  21. No, there is one that doesn't have the issue: the La Scala bass bin--which is horn-loaded bass bin that doesn't have a truncated mouth. A dual-mouth bass bin closure into one aperture is something that I believe draws many people to that particular bass bin design. Chris

  24. I've had my '84 Heresy I's for a few weeks now and I am in love. I can definitely see what all of the fuss is about with vintage Klipsch speakers. Couple of questions: 1. What should I be listening for to determine if I need to do anything with the crossovers? They sound fine as is, but they are all original and I know the crossovers wear out over time. 2. What kind of spade connectors do you recommend for these screw terminals? Everything I see looks like it will be too big to fit. I had banana plugs on my old speakers so I bought these: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X9FET7I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. They are working fine so far, but I would prefer a more secure connection. Thanks.

  28. I know that's the case but don't think speaking through a horn is completely fair compared to compression driver. (Bill Woods would do that test with a conical) Back in 1990 I ran Edgar's 250Hz tractrix horn - that would probably not honk/bark on the speaking test. In the real world, and with tube amps these old exponential horns are reasonably good and worked with PWK's simple networks. I'm old and want things to sound good - not necessarily "natural". A lot of the music I like is not coincident miced but rather multi-miced and some from the days when a whole chorus would be fully panned to one side. I was not familiar with the Stone's "Exile" album til recently. On my headphones it sounded dull and compressed - so i ran a track though my daisy chained Aphex Aural Exciter then to a DBX 3BX - that was much more involving and it seems strange to me that there doesn't seem to be any dynamic range expanders. physical or software when a lot of stuff is really squished down in dynamics. I did see an expander advertised as part of a 78 rpm restoration software package but the demo would not work, saying the grace period had already expired. with small horn/waveguide, one can get some idea of possible coloration by holding their throat up to one'e ear and listening to a decent audio source why turning the waveguide on to off axis. A modern waveguide then might sound more neutral than a tractrix of similar size and the traxtrix probably have a bit more beaming somewhere. Does that make sense? I'm uneducated - un-educate-able

  33. By golly I think it's gonna fly like the pink pig at the Floyd shows! The first thing they will look at is suspension, sound next cause most admin, janitors, guests are GONNA hear them sooo I just think the regular heavy chain links would look cool. Nice heavy links. Bwa ha ha... No paint, no nada just bolt the crap outta them and let 'em look "industrial." Seal the bolt holes up w/silicone and use the right bit... That's simple. They see what's holding them up there THEN they'll look to see what kind they are especially if they're singing. Run the wire the same way... Nylon cable ties (if you can) right down to the receiver. Gotta remember YOU'RE the one teaching now and once they hear it and ask you what you did and how that's what strokes the old guy's ego! Hahaha! Don't grin too much either! Another thought I just had re-reading this... Here's a lil study project for the one's that are truly interested.. Crank something out on paper explaining WHAT you did and WHY you did it. Tell them about the speakers explaining SOUND to them and how it's heard by the human ear... Explain the speakers and the 3-way system vs 2-way and 1-way and how the network breaks the sound down Tell them PWK's thoughts on sound cause you're actually turning these kids on to something GOOD that they just MAY use in their lifetime. At least you're pointing them in the right direction. Save a Master copy in your puter cause they will disappear in a year or so... Remember how you started w/tin cans and a string? Just another post coffee vision for what it's worth! lol

  37. That's a solid plan. Those OEM drivers and even the Type AA crossover all have good resale value. I had the A/4500 XO's in my Khorns. Your Khorns will sound outstanding with all the components you chose.

  40. I'm so excited for you. I always enjoy reading the post that go; Should I or shouldn't I, I think I'm gonna do it, I can't wait this XXX day. All that is left is the report back post pick-up. I remember my same situation. I'll never own a pair, holly cow there is a pair close enough for me to drive, can you believe I own Khorns. It will be fun to hear your adventure there and back and initial impressions. Truth be told, you might be a tad disappointed at first. Your expectations are so high how could they possibly be matched? I'd never heard a pair till I went to buy mine. I was expecting world changing, earth shaking, audio heavens opening up, etc. I remember thinking my khorns are great, but not a world apart from my Forte IIs or Original Chorus. Just the other day I dragged my Forte IIs back in front of my Khorns in and was in love with the Khorns all over again. But I do remember the first few songs not feeling like it was a 180 degree difference/improvement and wondering about the point of diminishing returns. A couple of days in, hearing your old favorites for the "first time" will make it all worth it. I do predict you will love them. Based on your room picture in the other post I bet you will be surprised how "small" they actually become. You will probably have more usable space over the FIII/bass trap combo. You also look like you have some quality gear so good news there. The Khorns are not very forgiving. An iPod and AVR is not the way to feed those beasts. They can brutal on the garbage returned from garbage in. LOUD garbage, but garbage non the less. I'd suggest you not get too anxious about swapping XOs changing drivers/horns. Use them, get to know them, find out what you don't like if anything. Then, swap stuff out as you find it necessary not just for the sake of change.

  46. Nothing a good remote wouldn't fix. With a good universal remote you can turn ON and switch all inputs to anything and everything for whatever it is you wish to do with one push of a button. Not to mention get rid of remote clutter as well. I'm loving my new Oppo 203, an excellent player. I'd a probably sold the family
