  2. That was probably my most versatile skateboard I ever had. A G&S Warptail II, Tracker MidTracks, Power Pivot and Kryptonics C-65 Reds (3rd Generation). It was stolen about 1983. Lamenting it over the years I slowly found the parts (even all the OG stickers in the same place) to recreate it but at a great cost. I have about 10-boards remaining but that one held a special place for me. But the most current one is a repopped 1978 Alva Lost Model 9 3/8" X 30", Repopped Kryptonics 70mm Reds, Independent 169 Stage 10's. That last pic is the one that was stolen.

  3. When did you know you had an addiction to audio gear? I figured it out when getting settled into my first apartment in 1988 and I looked around at the bean bag chairs, the cardboard boxes for end and coffee tables and a $1400 two channel system in the corner.

  4. My first bed out of college was made up of eight tea crates (free for the asking from Lipton company at the Galveston docks) with a pad of foam rubber on top...for 5 years. In that time, I owned DIY 3-way acoustic suspension loudspeakers, and later gave them to a friend when I bought a pair of AR90s a year or so later with Pioneer receiver and direct drive TT with Shure V15 Type III cartridge. About 2 years later I sprang for a pair of Magnepan MG-IIIAs with Carver C-2 preamp and M1.5t amplifier. I was also a cat sailor/racer (NACRA 5.2, NACRA 5.5 18^2 metre, windsurfer) during that time and raced year 'round on the weekends on cats, then big boats (J24, 10-metre racing monohulls) on Galveston bay. I basically lived like a beach bum in Galveston (later Alvin, home of Nolan Ryan)--but with a very good sound system. I only accepted a donated bed from friends later--when they showed up at my door with a spare one that they had, thus having pity on my poor audiophile living state. It was like a page of my life turned when I laid down on the new bed that evening. I must've shed a little tear--knowing that life was going to change--forever. (I later married the girl that brought the bed.) That was 35 1/2 years ago. She's still here. Later, when our kids were almost out the door (i.e., graduated and with good jobs), I bought Jubilees. The rest you already know. The Magnepans are still in a box in the garage and the NACRA 5.5 is disassembled in the back yard (not having seen the water since I got married). I guess that I hang on the image of being an audiophile beach bum. Chris

  11. Don't blame you at all, they are a great speaker, had a chance to listen to them for weeks in Arkansas in a huge building, we would crank them up at night. No matter the volume they sounded great, even low they have detail, louder and the bass is surprising and tight. It's the one model we don't have here that I would want, I did have a chance to get some but couldn't figure out where I could put or use them so I passed. If I could only have one set of speakers on the small side it would be the 396's easily. When Roy was first designing them he used them for a Pilgrimage, this was playing into a huge park with a few baseball fields next to each other it filled the whole park..........there were a few subs used also, 12. There may have been a few changes to the model since before going into production but the basic idea was done.

  12. Mine was when my wife told me she'd no longer help me carry any speakers in or out of our house. It was that same day that I bought a two wheel dolly. 😂 From memory here are the Klipsch speakers that I used to own: KV-1 (my very first!) RF-25 RF-7 forte I forte II Quartet SC-1 RS-42 KG-4 SC-3 KV-4 SS-1 SB-3 (gave to my sister & bro in law) Chorus I (bought for $50, sold for $70) Pretty mixed bag! I think that covers them.

  13. A question that may or may not have been addressed already. The drivers and horns in the 396 have a passive network with no active eq. Why does everyone seem to think his set up needs eq?

  20. Going to smoke another Pork loin this evening, marinating right now, a thick coat of Sriracha sauce and a little granulated Onion and salt, then to the smoker. I like a little flavor/spice, but it's not as hot as you would expect.

  23. they have surprising bass on there own, very tight and no shortage of it. I Agee with you, however, for what I listen to, deep bass is ESSENTIAL. These hit surprisingly deep frequencies and Def move air, but that is my preference. I bet If I had them in a proper larger space with a slight eq bump at the bottom and a subsonic filter, I could possibly be satisfied without subs.

  25. I'm looking forward to one of my buddies gigs where I can bring the 396s and actually use them to their full potential. I can tell they will be damn impressive. If you think they sound good at reasonable volumes, they get exponentially better the louder they play.

  29. I brine mine for about 24 hours. I just leave it in the garage since it's cold enough up here in the frozen north...stays at around 36-40 inside the bucket. Good thing I didn't have to brine it a few days ago when it was 3 degrees outside.

  32. A big part of the holiday feasts that our once large family had was the finger food that everybody munched on during the game. Never made the cheese ball, chex-mix ingredients have all changed, can't even find Cheese Tid-Bits since the 80s! Helluva Good Bacon Horseradish dip made me start getting the potato chips out again. This is up next, took a coffee break after doing the pie at 6 freakin am already For all of you carnivores that don't already know about this. I won't survive this time of year without a couple batches, and yea it called for mild sausage for the young-ins Neeses Hot is what I use when the kids aren't here.

Wow, only $2000 per box in near exigious condition. 😂 “The horn is a very complitated design with a lot of precission woodwork.” https://littlerock.craigslist.org/ele/d/klipsch-speaker-la-scala-and/6751074637.html ”Don't write me and trash the finish on the speakers, they are 50 years old.. A unfinished plywood Klipsch cabinet use to cost a small fortune.. If you aren't capable of putting some tung oil on these you don't deserve them..I will do it myself if I am ever where I have these stored again or I find someone with time on their hands..”
