  3. Hello everyone, I recently was able to get a pair of k-horns, so it's time for these to find a new home. I bought them just over a year ago from the original owner. They are in good shape, and include the grills (not pictured). They are also sequential serial numbers (If that's your thing). I'd be happy to pass them along to another forum member for the same price I paid, $850. Not looking to ship, so pickup only. I am located on the south side of Grand Rapids, MI. SOLD! Let me know if you have any questions!

  8. I have the following up for sale: Pair of KI-396’s and a pair of KPT-684’s - $3,200 $2,900 for all four. I bought these several months back and was told they were never used. In fact, the 684’s are in their factory boxes....I removed the subs for pics. The 684’s look mint and the 396’s only show faint rub marks/ (perhaps from just moving around and reboxing for shipping to me). Pick up only in Little Rock, AR...no shipping. I can’t seem to get pics up straight....they came in rotated left. Thanks, Hogfan

  9. Just finished this one. My friend drew up the schematic based on what we had on hand. The rectifiers are RCA 816 mercury vapors, power tubes triode wired 1625, and driven by 6J5GT. The 6J5 are half a 6SN7 and I've been collecting them for years... I'll do distortion and power ratings soon. The meters need a little tweaking but sounds ok so far. joined_video_c8d5860632994b51984cb95326861299.MP4

  10. I am considering a pair of locally available Fortes, but the room they would be going in is only 11 x 13. Ideally, I would like to place them about 18” out from the corners on the shorter wall. Do you think this will work or should I be looking for Heresies?

  12. On USaudiomart a First Watt F3 - $1275 shipped. If you’re on the fence for FW model jump off it. This is a reasonable price for a superb sounding amp. I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed. No affiliation, not mine - already have one.

  19. Sounds like you've gone to great lengths to set everything up according to Dolby recommendations, which is great. As for the upgrade path, the center speaker is your most important, so I'd go with the best center you can afford. If it's the RP450C, then great. Next I would look at a second sub (and as big as you can afford), so R-115/SPL-150 or any other 15+ inch sub that fits your budget. Unless you have seriously lacking bass, then you might consider going second sub first and then center. I don't have personal experience with your receiver, but it should be perfectly fine for these speakers. As a matter of interest, why aren't you interested in Dolby Atmos. I found Dolby Atmos to be an incredibly worthwhile upgrade to my system.

  20. Thank you and billybob! Forgot to mention that I do not have Dynamic Volume, Dynamic EQ or anything like that turned on. It's only the MultEQ XT 32 at Reference mode. Crossovers are 80Hz all.

  21. 1. The center speaker is supposed to be localized, its main job is to center voices on the screen. The 450C is an amazing center and will match perfectly with your other speakers. 2. I would start by adjusting the output level and see if that helps. Also, go in the menu of your receiver and turn off anything labeled Late Night Mode, Dynamic Sound, etc. 3. You have an awesome receiver. Spend some time getting everything set up with it.

  22. Welcome to the forum! Think your setup is alright now. Just needs some tweaking. Lately there has been discussion here regarding Audyssey and other auto setup, room correction programs that almost invariably needs manual assistance in making a difference in your listening experience. If you want to include a picture of the room, that may assist in advice given. In any case, others here will help. Thanks!

  23. The crossover design is the same, same part values with higher quality parts separated on a board the overall sound is the same I think the drop in replacement crossovers are slightly more detailed when listening critically bass is improved a little more tight / detailed is it worth the extra cost? Only you could be the judge of that.

  24. I would buy the best Rega your budget will allow. Not much under a grand can touch a well set up Rega. They run a little fast, but that adds to the liveliness they are known for. Oh, and stay away from Bluetooth in a vinyl rig. That should go without saying.............. Shakey

  27. I never really “stopped” vinyl. But I did replace an old Sony turntable, that I’d bought used when you could hardly find a turntable at all; with a new Music Hall model. Not high end by any means, but as good or better than anything I ever had back in the day. It works well. Is dead quiet, and came with an AT cartridge. I’ve recently been running it through an ONIX tube amp, with a pair of ‘83 Heresys, just for the old school, album experience. It’s satisfying, and pleasant reminder of how things used to be. Good luck, one thing for sure, the modern vinyl is far superior to most the commercial stuff available at the local record store, back in the old days.

  28. Rage by Bob Woodward. Woodward's methods and "secrets" are well described there and elsewhere. The result is extremely credible and extraordinarily easy and quick to read. You'll breeze right through it. Informative detail on numerous puzzling stories you've heard over the past year. https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Rage/Bob-Woodward/9781982131739

  29. VOR, we have been waiting for you to come. Welcome! Another Epic speaker for center is one option and not necessarily a 3. Guess a 1 or 2 could be used as it is in HT setup if able to find a single speaker. Not familiar with the watts per channel of the Pioneer model to mains and center. Not sure which Klipsch center you have now but fairly certain the AVR has been enough. Thinking your unit has preouts for connecting to an external amplifier. My new to me CF-1'S want more power than able to put to it with 50 wpc so thinking of going at least 125 wpc myself. Thinking in your case 150 to alot. Have you tried just the 2 in stereo mode with the AVR? As for ear level, the design with HF in the middle, think no elevation needed. See someone more experienced with these chiming in...cool. @Voice_Of_Reason

  30. I have a dedicated room for all my upper end gear, here is a picture of the front end and home theater system. I have spent many years configuring my system and as it is now I can play any source on any amp via balanced matrix switches. La Scala AL5, RC-64 III, RB-61 II, RS-62 II, RS-52 II, DIY Rythmik Audio 1510 subs. Tubes only play to the La Scala.

  32. However, to contradict myself, for five dollars I can stream the album release of Rare Essence, one of the founding bands of DC's Go-Go music and support them. 40 years on as a band. That's cool. Hell, put me down for $10. I'm going to email Suzanne Vega and ask her to support them.

  33. "FBI director warns of Russian interference and white supremacist violence"... an article in the NYT which was reprinted in the Seattle imes. (NY has a pay wall). https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/fbi-director-warns-of-russian-interference-and-white-supremacist-violence/ I copied and pasted the words in quotes, taken directly from the article, into the Fox News website's 'Search" engine (you know, the ones with the magnifying glass) and came up with exactly no articles on Fox. Surprised? Some are not. My only reason to post this is to implore, again, that folks don't rely on just one source of info. No matter how much confirmation bias it gives you.

  36. Heresy 1 speakers are some of the toughest speakers out there , the K55 and K77 are shared with the khorn-Cornwall and LaScala , and when these drivers or crossovers are in such a smaller enclosure , they last for a long time - - you can do a host of changes to the Heresy 1 - but as @Oicu812 said it already @ClaudeJ1 has done wonders with the Super-Heresy 1 and I would go that route if you want to revamp your Heresy 1 to a much better sounding speaker - the woofer is the key change , the tweeter can remain or you can change it for a better one , the K55V is not modified , and the crossover is upgraded to a B network modification only -

  38. Hey Seti, Glad to see someone running the 6J5GT tubes. I been running them for a couple years now as a replacement for the 6SN7 tubes in my pre amp. I also run the 6F8G tubes in my amp as drivers for the 45 tubes in my Korneff amp. I would love to talk with you more about the 6J5 tubes...

  39. Thanks Tarheel TJ, Yes treating your room and using a DSP will bring your system to a whole different level.. There is no going back, as for the analog sources all you need is one good tape deck. Then I can help you with getting copies of Master tapes like the ones I have. You have never heard anything like a master tape until you hear one, soo much more info in the music it's insane!!!

  40. jcmusic, you have some SERIOUS analog gear! Consider me envious. I have gotten much closer to audio nirvana over the last couple of years. Going to a digital active crossover (with much help from Chris A) and a dedicated and well-treated room has moved mountains for me. These two changes elevated my system from "above average" to amongst the very best I have ever heard at any price point. At this stage, my analog sources are definitely my weak link. I wish I had some of your pieces in my system. Maybe someday!

  45. Whenever I get in a strong argument I always know I'm 'Right. I'm thoroughly convinced of it. Trouble is, the other person is just as convinced of his position. There is rarely a meeting of the minds! Just a lot of strutting and ruffling of the feathers. The difficulty for both of you here is that you are businesses and you are only turning people off to consideration of your products. And further I believe both of your products somewhat compete with the owner of this Forum. Klipsch has been very gracious in hosting you here and I strongly suggest that you take any more of your disagreement offline. Thanks, Rod
