One QB wants 2mil? In addition to pay to play for your kids it's now pay to play for your fav college team,. Gonna get better too

  7. I am re-arranging my Home Theater equipment due to new TV. I have been getting by with my RC- just sitting flat on the stereo shelves under old TV Well the new TV moves the RC-7 lower so I need to Tilt it up. I cannot find the Tilt screw! Look on Klipsch web pages and I cannot find where they sells parts like this. (It has been a while since I have visited) Does anyone know where I can purchase this screw with the glob of rubber on the end? OR What is the thread size? Metric or SAE? and I will make my own. THANKS!

  10. Cap refresh is about it. Likely, OP plenty of time for that. Would get to know the 4s better as is for now. Nice speakers...
    1 point
  11. Absolutely. but perhaps not as much of a difference as Roy’s PEQ settings for the Jubescala. The LS bass bin has a massive bump around 148Hz and some EQ to flatten it out really helps the low end definition. Put the EQ together with the braced sidewalls and it’s much better.

  16. Got an update a while ago. I've been in the house that it flooded years ago. The owner owned the Duckburg lumber company here. The entire basemen was panelled w/4" knotty pine, had a nice bar with a fire place down there too. Guess the water was coming out of the basement windows. I mean it's not funny but... Was a state of the art ranch style surrounded w/a few nice trees back in the day. They'll be back here tomorrow and I'm gonna be gone all day soooooo. 😂

  22. Spectrum is havin some fun here in Duckburg today! Neighbor (former mayor) just texted me and said that the crew putting in their new state of the art fiber optic lines just hit a main water line, Seems as though some moron hit it somehow and it was a feeder line from all THREE water towers in the city,. 😂 😂 😂 Said the homeowner came out to tell them and his entire basement filled full of water. 😂 Only took about 3 minutes too! Record time! Anyone seen my snorkel laying around in here? It's somewhere "safe" I know it! Some big truck just pulled in down the street. Could be my lucky day! 😂

  23. To answer the question "Ever try moving away from Klipsch speakers?" The answer is yes. I'm glad I did... more on this later. If you haven't listened to other speakers produced by other manufacturers, then you are missing out on a lot of what the audio world has to offer. To me, that's part of what I love about the wonderful world of audio, that exciting feeling of exploring what else is out there. Striving to improve your listening experience! Comparing one speaker to another, pairing a set of great amps against each other to see which one your ears tell you is more pleasing, etc. It's like only trying a cheese pizza... sure, you might think it's love at first bite, as you sink your chompers into the warm flavorful combination of flaky crust combined with a luscious tomato sauce topped with stringy mozzarella cheese, but what do you have to compare it to? If you've never had it with any other toppings, like sausage, pepperoni, olives, garlic, etc. then how do you know that your cheese pizza is the best for you? It's almost a "must" to get out there and try other combinations. Who knows, you may decide that your first love is what you find yourself returning to, but you owe it to yourself to get out there and explore the wonderful world of audio! To say that Klipsch is the only speaker you'll ever listen to is very narrow minded. I understand brand loyalty and the cult like following some people have with different speaker manufacturers, but to say they will never even consider something else is downright foolish. I am 48 years old and have been wowed with electronics, speakers, and music since I was in grade school. I tipped over my brothers old Jensen speaker, lifted it a couple inches off the ground after placing it in the corner of our basement, connected it to our Peavey Pacer guitar amp and fed it a signal from my old Panasonic boom box to make it my first ever subwoofer! Yikes! Yes, I have come a long way since then, but I've always been curious about speaker design. I have tried many speakers over the years, as I like to purchase speakers in need of a little TLC, restore/refinish them, and then compare them to my speakers I currently own. Then, I decide if they bump one from my current lineup, or go on their way for someone else to enjoy. This allowed me to try many different speakers over the years. Now being a teacher, I'm on a limited budget, so I can't speak to any fancy $$ speakers out there, but I have to say Klipsch has the most bang for the buck! However, for my ears, the ones I own and have tried are not necessarily the best overall sounding speakers to listen to. For example, I did an A/B comparison with my RF7 II's compared with my set of Focal Chorus V's. (Both paired with my dual 15" subs) The Focal's stomped all over the RF7's when it came to detail in the upper frequencies! However, if I was looking for a speaker to crank and stand alone without any subs, then I would for sure choose the RF7's. I guess what I'm saying in a rather long winded attempt, is that there is a speaker out there for every purpose and for every person. Have fun an explore what the audio industry has to offer. Go out on a limb and try something you normally wouldn't ever listen to, who knows, you may just find a new love of your audio life!

  26. The only other brand(s) I ever really considered outside of Klipsch were Altec and JBL (two sides of the same coin), particularly the vintage JBL like the Sovereign and Apollo series cabinets and similars employing the LE15/LE85-DLH175-375 midranges/077 cat's eye tweeters and other vintage horn setups of similar thinking......but ultimately when it came to the VALUE presented by the original Klipsch Heritage line of speakers, and how well those ended up being addressed in the aftermarket as well as having a pretty continuous "universal" ability to obtain service (drivers still sold by Klipsch and even Dean will build Klipsch authorized replacement networks for those line of speakers) tells me that I chose wisely and "saw the future" when deciding to invest in my Heritage cabs some 20+ years ago. While it is true that the JBL drivers are of a better class than the Heritage line used through that time, the Klipsch got more "results for the input" on the value side, and looking out into the future all those years ago told me that the Klipsch lasted longer (no surround refoams every 10 years) along with knowing that any drivers going dead otherwise would be an extreme cost that I probably could not "self insure" without brain a bank breaker in and of itself with the JBLs. It was sufficiently easy to obtain a trio of matched-driver Cornwall pairs and know that I could maintain and take care of them for a lifetime of service, and would be able to afford to "take care of them" because there were so many options in the marketplace to allow for that service to be done that the Cornwalls and Belles made sense as "life investments". Great results from affordable and common parts. There's always "better" but within the realm of "pretty damned good" and never really having to worry much about doing it all over again made it such that Klipsch was the right choice. Heritage really are "speakers for life" and the genius of the original PWK designs evident. If one kept the cabs in good shape one could completely rebuild the innards and run 'em for another 30-50 years. There's little else I could ever say that about any other product in ANY category, let alone audio, so I know I made the right choice. I literally wore out the first HT kit that drove those Cornwalls but the speakers are still here with a newer Mac core running the show. Took almost 20 years to wear out an amp but I found a way......tens of thousands of hours.....but the Cornwalls are still "The Speaker Of The House". Can't justify moving the beasts for anything else.

  27. Big breath….again….Mr K never understood the difference between home speakers and commercial. He told me that it should not matter what you have hooked up to the speaker….a turntable or a band….the speaker should faithfully reproduce the input signal.

  28. They make Y cables to split the source input enabling the use of a sub with the tube amp mentioned. Not the best way but it will work. For me bigger horn bigger sound and the LaScala has a larger horn than the Cornwall. Give them some time. There is nothing like horn bass.

  29. the AL-5 need a sub and SS power , it's not a coincidence if klipsch are coming out with new subs by summer 2024 , hang tight , buy a new sub and you'll be very happy . in the meantime , try a Yamaha A-S1200 or 2200 or a Rotel Michi X3 , and you may find a bit more clean-tight punchy bass with the AL-5

  30. I think everyone is familiar with the history of the La Scala. Mentioning this, however, adds nothing to this topic.
    1 point
  31. Just because the La Scala was first utilized for sound reinforcement doesn’t mean it wasn’t for HiFi utilization and as a matter of fact PWK advocated it’s use between his Klipschorns in a 3 speaker array where it was used in the most critical position as a center channel speaker in a HiFi System for the home. miketn

  34. The good news is for about $20.00 you can by the mat and try it. If you do not like it then take it off no big deal. I did it to my 1987 La Scala's. Was there a difference to me, yes was it a big difference No. These type of changes make minor changes to the sound at most. The single biggest difference you can make to your system is speaker placement in YOUR ROOM. Go to YouTube and do a search on speaker placement, it may not seem like a big issue but it will make the biggest difference in any system. Enjoy the Music

  35. @Josh in DC Welcome to the forum! I doubt if it would help the newer ones. New and old, they have a flange that is screwed down. In the old days, when the horns were screwed down, PWK couldn't pick up any resonance with his equipment. Even when the Forte I was premiered, one critic, having not noticed any horn distortion, said, "so much for horn distortion." But, who knows ... you might try it if you are energetic and willing. If you do, please do one only, then have someone put the two speakers next to either, cheek by jowl, almost touching, when you are out of the room and not cheating (not looking). Then return and listen extensively to each speaker one at a time. Then have your friend either reverse the speakers, or not, without telling, and then please compare the two. This would be a "single blind" experiment, so to approach a "double blind," have your confederate either leave the room before you re-enter, or wear a bag over his/her head. This would have one step less confirmation bias than what the guy on YouTube did, but, of course, is not as refined as many repeated trials with control for order effect and carry over effect. Please let us know your results. I suspect at least some placebo effect in the YouTube results. By the way, IMO, the term is "damping," not "dampening." A ton of audiophiles make this mistake, including the guy on YouTube. An amplifier has a damping factor. Car and bike suspensions have damping. Some old tone arms had viscous damping. In my recollection, including in physics class, it was "damping" from when I became an audiophile (late '50s) until about 1967, when Star Trek erroneously used the term "dampening." Then, they did it again. And again. Just as when CNN mis-defined "Factoid," Orville Redenbacher corp. mis-defined "overachiever," practically every screenwriter, novelist and journalist used "subconscious," over the usually preferred "unconscious," etc., etc., the acirologie multiplied and lasted and lasted. One reason I will continue to use "damping" is that I can only too clearly visualize what an audiophile would look like while "dampening" his components.

  38. Is it worth to bi-wire the R-28F speakers with the Yamaha R-N 500 amp? The amp has 4x outputs, so I could cable as per the linked picture below: http://bilder.hifi-forum.de/medium/787524/bwireoption3_396884.jpg (I do not understand really the German forum) Is it not bi-amping rather bi-wiring? (sorry if I'm wrong) Is this a better setting with my R-28F speakers? At the moment the amp is on 8ohm setting with normal cabling. If I would do this "bi-wiring", how should I change the impedance on the R-N500? The Yamaha manual has very little info about this... Any thought is highly appreciated.

  39. Thanks for your comment. Yes I have. For me it works fine. This is my first system, I do not have experienced ears. I got confused after reading the article about amplification I mentioned above. ( http://support.klipschgroupinc.com/kb/faq.php?id=69 )

  40. Hey Guys Ive got a pair of old Tangent Klipsch 300's which I dragged out tonight. The tweeter in the right speaker doesn't work anymore. I swapped the left tweeter in which yielded the same result. Does this mean I have to replace the crossover? How much would this set me back. Is it difficult to do? Thanks AJ

  41. Were you impressed with the KLF-30's? How would they compare to the RF-7's you have (a large floorstander also right?)?
    1 point
  42. I used Kv-3 for more than ten years. An outstanding centre. Tried a KG 4.2 as a centre but didnt sound as good (now my rears). I now have a KLF C7 which is probably a little bit better but it depends on what your after. The KLF C7 is more laid back and handles louder volumes a bit better I think but I run it with large floorstanding KG 5.5s which can go loud and clear (all have been recently modified with Crites Titanium tweeters). If you go down the Crites road I found updating my whole speaker system was a necessary step for home theatre synergy (this means seven speakers in my case) but a great upgrade. One pair sets you back about $52 for memory.

  43. Would you mind holding it as I try and find out if it is possible to Ship it? Also how much would you be after for the speaker? Thanks AJ

  44. I believe the amp has full bias controls for each tube ?.. If so matched quads are not absolutely required although you wouldn't want wildly mismatched tubes.......but just to be clear when purchasing output tubes always buy matched quads since ordering singles will net you the worst tubes a tube seller has on his shelves..... the ones he could not match...
