  2. Taking a huge risk here by posting images of a openly communist album. 😁 This 1988 Billy Bragg album, punk folk, has the subtitle 'capitalism is killing music', referring to the 1980s campaign 'Home taping is killing music'. I plead guilty! Note the horn speaker in the cover art. My album still has its original price tag. I paid 379 Bfr for it, which is slightly less than 10 euros/dollars.

  9. The less “stuff” in the signal path the better, especially if the device is powered. As long as you can drive the amps to the levels you desire all is well. If a source has variable output, direct connection to the amps would be ideal. Maynard

  15. He had posted a wonderful story about his daughter on the blog he had. I didn't know she had passed away. It truly made me weep. He and his wife eventually split up after the daughters passing. I can only imagine the pain they went though. Dave was crazy, smart, well read. I never got to one of the Klipsch pilgrimages to meet him. I know it would have been fun.

  16. Dave was a kind man, he had a good heart and I think he was just a damn good person. I spoke with him on several occassions, not regualarly, but enough so that I wasn't too shy about just picking up the phone and calling. When he was in the Houston/Pasadena area I called him on one occassion while I was working on a project in his immediate area; I left the project site late that day, around 7pm'ish and didn't want to drive home (230 mi. drive), I was exhausted and stuck in traffic.... so I called him. He invited me to his home and even offered me a bedroom. We had discussed the subject of getting together one day on several occassions. I really wanted to meet him and wanted to take him up on the offer, but I just felt uncomforable. I had no real reason to feel that way, but I only ever spoke with him over the phone, never got to meet him face to face. I'm the kind of person that it takes me time to feel comfortable enough to do something like that with a person. While on the phone discussing the subject, I thought to myself, if I told my wife that I just (last min.) invited someone that I only knew from an internet forum to spend the night.... she'd a wigged-out and probably knock me on the head with a frying pan..... I still think about that day, don't know why..... Dave was just one of those people that leaves a good solid mark, a good feeling. I truly hope there's a heaven and he's getting to spend it with his daughter.

  17. Pre amps are about signal gain prior to your amp and are generally a positive enhancement, but truly depends your total system components . I have a Decware Torii Jr V2 and use a Schit Freya S ( non tube ) pre-amp which is fed by a Denafrips Pontus 2 12th-1 via XLR connectors Normal listening is pre-amp 50% and Decware at 50%, with the pre-amp use as volume control This combo in my system works extremely well, with enhanced sound stage and clarity. BTW I just added two sound absorbers behind my listening position and that also help over all enjoyment

  21. I have various amplifiers, including a 300B SET, 2A3 PP, and this 45 SET. The 2A3 PP was my favorite so far. The 300B has more oompf, but, to my taste, it adds too much warmth to the music. I prefer a slightly cleaner sound without sacrificing musicality or the live experience. Describing the 45 SET is a bit challenging, I just have it 😄. Surprisingly, the 2A3 PP performs best in terms of soundstage (which I didn't expect). But first impression , the 45 SET seems to capture the most detail. It has a bit more sparkle, occasionally sounding a bit sharp. It's quite dynamic and very musical; some songs can come across as transparent and very real. And this is something I really love. I've ordered different preamp tubes, which are on their way (uncertain of the age of the current ones). This might alter the sound. As for the power tubes, I'm in good shape with nearly new Emission Labs 45B. It's a Welborne DRD45 In real life the wood is more dark

  22. Good call! I disconnected the transformer and pulled it out then connected the xover directly to the input cup as you described. What a difference in efficiency/sensitivity/load on the amp - Aww Hell! It's much louder! Looking forward to ceiling mounting my 4 much like you did your 6.

  24. Interesting note. Mark Chatfield is going back on the road ASAP since Bob Seger retired. Mark is replacing Bruce Kulick from Grand Funk Railroad. 23 amazing years touring with a group that originated in Flint, MI. and has withstood the test of time for more than 50 years. Mark and Bruce are long time friends and GFR is doing a "Loco-Motion" tour this year. 23 years for Bruce and Mark 40 year stint w/Bob? It's a zero brainer if ya think about it. Should be a great tour. The first of 40 tour stops will take place on Friday, January 12th at Ledyard, Connecticut’s Foxwood’s Casino. I remember Seger hitting Cbus and Mark was telling me one day he was gonna play lead for him. I told him to tell Bob that and he did. Seger told him if he could bring it to let him know. Funny cause he did it. 40 years with him and when he retired Mark went back and has been packing the house w/his old band "The Godz." Then the phone rang. lol Trust me he can git it and will be a great add to GFR! Check me out! Laced w/a few Seger hits ya better buckle up. Great ticket prices and a good time for sure!

  25. I agree with what Nickyboy is saying: The Chorus will sound better at any level over the Heresy, AND that the Chorus (when given the proper wattagessses) will come alive in a manner that the Heresy just can't, or Forte, or Cornwall or...... and I really do like the Heresy. Also, I liked my PM8006, BUT it just didn't do it for me. I bought the Yamaha A-S1000 and the PM8006 at the same time to AB them against each other. To be honest, the Yamaha didn't do it either. Other things out there make me say WOW. It's not the destination, it's the journey that brings us WOWs. Also, welcome to the madhouse.

  26. Thank you Travis and Deang. I'll probably make an offer based on buying two tweets and two mids. Didn't mean to break rules discussing aftermarket, but did not realize I had other options. Deang, is replacing the tweeter diagphragm a challenge? I'm guessing there may be a link here somewhere, for both the product and the repair process. Do people typically replace both tweets at the same time? Also, for the squawker, what are the options if it is bad? Again, just repair/replace one? I always thought a matched set was better than two that are 40 years different in age. Here is a pic of what I'm after. Not really a fan of the grills, and dislike that they are fixed. but they are in better shape than the picture shows.

  27. I have not listened to either. I heard an older Klipsch at a noisy holiday party a few years ago and couldn’t believe how good they sounded. I think it was a Heresy model. I then connected my phone to a pair of Fortes II at an AirBnB this summer and was floored at the vividness and depth. It sounded like Raffi was right there playing for the kids. In short, I think I caught the Klipsch bug I’m trying to itch it with the best that I can find right now. I’m wondering which would be more versatile or shine better in a 400-600 sq ft space as well as a 200 sq ft space? It’s likely that over the years I’ll be moving it around as we renovate.

  28. The Node volume control is done in the digital domain and it’s not a very sophisticated one at that. When you attenuate past a certain point, you are throwing away bits. Not good. So it’s no wonder a preamp sounds better. But if you have enough front end gain, a well designed passive pre will beat most all comers.

  29. Depends on the input impedance and sensitivity of the amplifier. And the output impedance and voltage of your source. It certainly could work.

  31. Ah, the talk of snow. Though we had a white Christmas, it didn't stick around for long. Had a slight dusting last night, and they are calling for 3-5 inches over the next few days. I figured I'd get the snow blower out today in the event that forecast is accurate. However, once I get the snow blower out, I'd be surprised if we get 2-3 inches. Breakfast was a Belgian waffle and coffee (sorry, no pictures of the waffle). Sitting here enjoying coffee and listening to the lovely Ms. Fitzgerald. After this I guess I'll put away all the Christmas gifts then head to the shed for the snow blower.

  35. If working when you last used 18 years ago the chances are darn good if you use a Variac and start them up slow like over a 24 hour period starting at 50VAC for 4 hours, 60 for 4 and so on. I bet they come up just fine. Do clean the tube sockets and pins in case they have oxidized. Caig Deoxit is all I recommend you use. 20 years is nothing to those components. Unlike the above poster the one thing I would replace are the Jensen PIO caps Paper in Oil caps built like those do not do well after sitting unused for 20 years. If they were Hermetically sealed it'd be different but they are not. To keep the sound the same as it used to be, find another PIO cap made today. Good Luck Craig

  38. I understand things are not like they were when I first went to work in the 60's at my first job. The rule was you answered that dang phone as quickly as possible because there was a customer on the other end with money that you might get if you talk to them quickly. I do not believe that there is anyone here that would be happy buying some item and wanting info, repairs, spend money for something else, and be put on hold for 2 hours and then not talk to someone. This includes everyone that works at Klipsch. I know things have changed with the internet and internet sales and many companies only communicate through that media but if you have a direct phone service you will not have happy customers if they are put on hold for more than 20 or 30 minutes tops. You can bet on that. This is not reflection on Roy or anyone else that works at Klipsch understanding that they are just one cob in a large corporation who has a board making decisions. Klipsch is no longer a Mom and Pop company. But facts are facts. A two hour hold on a phone is and will not be acceptable for anyone on this forum and will certainly piss them off . Exceptions to every rule of course. Perhaps Travis has the correct answer, email them first if internet is available. They should say that in their warranty with the product. Email first and a person will contact them in 24 hours. Just and old man who was self employed most of his working life 2c.

  39. thanks for sharing your impressions. I have III's and have heard IV's at a dealer. Did I like them? Sure I did... In fact, they reminded me quite a bit me of my III's - which I love. Your impressions are more thoughtful and therefore believable than the crowd that has been saying, "..I heard the IV's - they crush the III's" Oy vey. Such comments are difficult to take seriously. No matter how great the III's sound, people just couldn't get past the fact that Klipsch chose to use the same mid/tweeter as the H3. I reiterate a point I made a few months ago: EVERY speaker I've ever owned was described as being vastly superior to the previous generation and vastly inferior to the next. Yet, in EVERY case where I was able to directly compare one generation to the next (side-by-side, volumes carefully matched), the differences ended up being very very subtle - so subtle that in some cases you'd be hard pressed to distinguish them while blinded. This was true even in cases where the cabinet was re-braced and EVERY driver was supposedly upgraded and improved. And when a difference was heard, it wasn't necessarily an improvement - I.e., took a step closer to the sound of real live music.

  43. This is a complex topic that is not just about more gun laws, factories making guns or the lack of mental healthcare in the US. There is a sickness in a society when these things become a regular part of daily life. A fresh look at cultural norms and values is needed. A thorough understanding of the problem has to happen first before applying more bandages to an exsanguinating society. As stated, a lot the individuals that do these horrific things don't have criminal records. Ture criminals don't buy guns from gun shops. They will have girlfriends, friends and relatives to get the guns. Law enforcement also need to be addressed. Neighborhood cops have a good handle on who is doing crime but, fail to act until something happens or are involved in illegal things in the neighborhood.

  46. First of all, thanks to everyone who replied for they're time & knowledge. On bridging,I've heard so many conflicting opinions.A Bryston dealer told me bridging would give me a clearer sound. An Adcom dealer said if I bridged,I'd lose some midrange & the sound would'nt be as clear. Also,I was told when you bridge it's like turning a 8 ohm spkr. into a 4 ohm spkr.As far as getting K-horns,I've allready turned my Corns. into Cornscalas(B.Crites components) & I have a Tekton 21" sub. powered by an Adcom 555ll bridged(600 WPC).Seeing I have the same components as the K-horn,I thought the only diff. between mine & the K-horns was the size of the cab.(or bin).I was told the size of the bin or cab. was the bass,so if I allready have a sub. the size & pwr. that I do,what diff. wuold switching to K-horns make?Lastly,If it turns out I get feedback explaining the diff. of the K-horns & it's worth changing, would getting the K-horn plans & just exchange the components(maybe having to modify the crossovers) be just as good? Thanks again to everyone. You definatly have a special forum here w/ special people!Tim3.
