Last week I made a trip to pick up a Raw Birch LaScala that needed a new home. My plan was to use the LaScala as a center channel for my office system. Spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday stripping and sanding old stain and paint. Sunday applied an oil finish and this morning I reassembled the Parts into the cabinet. LaScala sounds very nice, but I do not have the room to move the Cornwall's or the LaScala to attempt to balance the sound. The LaScala overwhelms the Cornwall's. Is there an easy way to control volume for my center channel? Jerry6 points

Matching Set from ORIGINAL OWNER. These speakers sound fantastic, as great as the day they were purchased. The finish is the Birch Raw that I hand-stained with a rag. If you want a darker finish, it would be very easy to do the same. Cabinets are in great shape. Risers came attached to the speakers and are included. All you will have to do is hook these quality speakers up and enjoy the sweet, Klipsch sound. Matching set serial numbers are 8559095 and 8559096. By the speaker wire hook-ups, it is printed: Sensitivity 1W/1M 94dB SPL Frequency Response 50 Hz-20KHz (plus or minus) 3dB Max Continuous Power 100Watts Normal Impedance : 4 (ohms) 1985 Klipsch These speakers will ship in original boxes with original packaging. Approximate size each speaker: 21 1/2" Height x 13 1/4" Deep x 15 1/2" Width Located in Cincinnati, Ohio3 points

After reading all the replies and doing many, many, many hours of research on Marantz receivers I've landed on the 2245. There is less than 1 db of difference between 45 watt amp and 52 watt amp. The search is on for a fully refurbished one. Thank you all for your valuable input!3 points

I’m not far from@MookieSTL. Same beautiful day here too. I spent much of the day painting the throat of my THTLP horn. Some day I’ll post photos. Also got the grill fired up to cook some turkey breasts. Boring but trying to eat better. I’m 20.x pounds down since November 1st; doctor is gonna freak. I hope my blood numbers are more in line with normal too. .3 points

Thanks. Never thought I would like birch cabinets until I saw Larry's. @scallywagger77 I really like the warm amber glow that his have acquired over the last 40 years. I tried to replicate his cabinet color. Not near as nice as Larry's but I am pretty happy with the result. Jerry2 points

I agree. Had Heresey ll's and will stay with the RB61lls. Although I admit I have a Klipsch Sub now and I didn't with the Heresey's.2 points

I may have posted here before but search didn't get any hits... Anyways, you guys have some awesome dedicated rooms. If and when I ever move, a dedicated theater room will be a priority. My living room serves me well for now however as my multi purpose media room. Belle's for 2 channel system and a reference series setup for movies and tv.......2 points

here is a very good tip. pack your Heresy so that the riser is at the top of the carton and NOT the bottom. Use some extra cardboard in the bottom of the carton. A hard drop will damage your risers they are not strong. The flat top of the cabinet will deal with drops much better than the risers can. The double box is a good idea but if you don't double box at least insert a piece of 1/4" ply into the bottom of the carton to protect the top of the cabinet. Mark the cabinet so that the arrows point to the risers on the bottom of the Heresy this will place the risers up and the cabinet tops down and this will be the safest way to ship..1 point

I would recommend double-boxing these for shipment. It will add weight and cost to the shipment but it will be worthwhile for all involved in the transaction.1 point

Let me clarify to the previous comment. I will definitely take them assuming shipping isn't something heinous(which it shouldn't be). I have been looking for some Heresy's for quite some time but have always gotten beaten to the punch. I commented quick because these look fantastic and will likely go quick. Ill DM you my details in a few minutes.1 point

I would like them. Could you send me a quote to ship them to STL?1 point

They don’t come up too often. There is a pair of the triangle shaped you’re after RS62’s on eBay that look nice. Nothing wrong with a little upgrade. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-RS-62-Surround-Speakers-Pair/123622561490?epid=99319536&hash=item1cc87a96d2:g:F4cAAOSwYX9cUzqa1 point

i added the 55G's in 5 of them and 2 have soldered terminals. jimjimbo says changing the 15" woofers from parts express is a great option but i don't really want to pry off the access door of the k-horns i use all Deang networks, waiting on a new set to be built1 point

I was an active forum member around 2002-2004. Haven't had a dedicated 2 channel setup in a long time! Got married, started a family, you know. I found a set of kg 3.5 speakers in a pawn shop with blown tweeters and did the crites tweeter upgrade two nights ago. I have a dragonfly red hooked to my computer to steam lossless Tidal. Using a small class t amp for power right now. Probably will put out 10 watts after a few upgrades. So far estatic to have some good tunes. I plan to upgrade to a vintage Marantz 2200b series receiver. My speakers are 65 watts max and in a small room, but I like them loud. I'm wondering how many watts of amp power I should get to match those speakers well and not run the risk of blowing them. I play loud electric guitar and will use the Klipsch as my backup band, so it's gonna be loud! What do you recommend? Thank you and good to be back!1 point

I can safely say that I do not agree with anything that you say above. JJK1 point

Other will chime on current thinking, but the attached shows how Paul Klipsch recommended a center channel hookup (both for preamp line out and receiver speaker out connections) back in the day. Dope from Hope center speaker box.pdf1 point

Between those two I would go with the R34c.1 point

Not sure I totally get that. The generations before me had hardly any musical science and the recording equipment and gear were not even developed. The point was mainly quality of music, not just types. I had Zero friends that listened to music from the 1920's in the 60/70s, not even my parents. There are millions of 20/30 year olds that listen to music from the 60/70s,1 point

Besides mounting the HF drivers in specially designed boxes with the correct amount of set back to compensate for the differences in driver acoustic centers within a loudspeaker, plus phase delays introduced by the passive crossover networks themselves, the only other alternative is to use digital delays to correct the phase/time misalignments within the loudspeakers themselves (i.e., provided by DSP crossovers). And physical set back of drivers can only correct for the on-axis time alignments, not those time misalignments far off axis. It's the same story for on-axis frequency response in-room, with DSP crossovers easily providing the necessary EQ corrections that are quite difficult to implement in passive crossovers. Chris1 point

I finished the setup of the new K-horns, and all connected, using as a first try my Prima Luna Dialogue HP I/A. I fired the system up, let it warm up for 30 min, in triode mode, and started playing Chris Stapleton, Whiskey and you.... When I first heard the music, (my first ever with Klipschorns, (aka klipschorns virgin), MY HEART SKIPPED FOR FEW SECONDS,... OMG.....I was speechless,... wow...wow, was all I could say. I was not prepared for that. I own LS II's, CW III's, Heresy's III, Forte II's & III's, and have owned Chorus II,..and still I could not get over the sound,... I sat down and listened to all genres of music for 2 straight hours, they went by fast, much needed r/r after a long weekend at work. Who cares about Superbowl !. For now I am keeping the P/L in the system. Next the MA5300 in a week or two.1 point

Positioning is going to make a big difference with the forte II's also may need to angle the cabinets up a little bit as the horns are significantly lower than on the 83's. I recently compared my RF-5's to a set of forte II's and had the same reaction as you until I angled them up and got that mid horn firing at ear level, even then I felt they were both in the same ball park as far as sound quality goes.1 point

Spent the weekend at TAMU picking out a living space for my auto admit son wanting to be a surgeon so going Biomedical Sciences. Chose a 2/2 in the Towers. Shuttle every 5 minutes to campus and walking to the football stadium. Differences between UT an A&M were substantial; cost, attitude....everyone we spoke with at A&M was all about studies not so much at UT. Hospital clean in all common lounges, I was impressed. https://parkwestlife.com/ UT, who are you? Money? TAMU, what is your goal? How can we help?1 point

There are many who prefer the modern offerings to some of the Heritage line. Although apples and oranges, I much prefer the overall sound of my stand mounted RB61 IIs to my buddy’s Hereseys.1 point

I agree. On your first point, I tried them with various music at different levels. I only really switched them 3 times in a period of 2 days, so I got a chance to listen to them for a good while at a time. 2. I am recapping them, doing a little bit of simple upgrades, and they will be in a dedicated 2 channel system in my office with great electronics too. I will have the 83s at home and the Fortes at the office, I will grow accustomed to its sound and lets see how they mesure up with enough time. The methodology of testing will always have its flaws, but you should be able to tell what is noticeable better. Youthman tried the La Scala with various RF7 ii RF7 iii, RF7II upgraded, the La Scalas beat them out and he switched out the 83s for those. With the Fortes the results were noticeably in favor of the RF 83s.1 point

I have reference series and heritage series speakers and love both. Just to nit pick. Forte aren’t really heritage line....regards, To y1 point

When you get a chance, try the Fortes on the outside of the 83's, spread out and closer to the walls (12 to 18 inches or so)1 point

He paid $6600 and "the price will only go up." That is true if he gets his asking price. I didn't know that there is no risk of depreciation when buying new.1 point

I know this sounds condescending but...try them all and decide for yourself. First if all, it is a great way the spend the weekend, to set up the rest of your system and swap out amps while listening to your favorite music. Secondly, in the end, recommendations serve very little; the decision as to what sounds good in your room, with your ancillary equipment with your music is very, very individual. Enjoy the process and decide what works for you, not for us crumb bums....please do let us know what you decide works best for you and why, we love to hear about those processes and decisions. I'm humbled. Hopefully there might be others that post in this forum from time to time that are also worthwhile to read. I'm winding up for the next "at bat": chapter 4 of Toole's book, which has many insights...and issues...of which I feel that it is necessary to strike a careful balance. That little "caveat emptor" that I posted above was an attempt to set the right tone for the discussion. There have been some time consuming distractions here of late: That's Duncan...our little "brown warrior". Chris1 point
