  1. It's been a LONG time since I've written one of these! Subject: After Action Report for the Oakland County Chapter of the Klipsch Anonymous.. First call @ Zero dark thirty SUCKED! The arrival of Skelt was timely and appreciated although his thermos of hot coffee smelled divine in comparison to my iced down HUGE mugga Diet Dr. Pepper! Arrived at the County Seat of Oakland County, ❌ichigan approx 1.5 hours prior to designated arrival time only to leave the headlights on @ a nearby McDonald's while we ate breakfast. Distress msg sent to host with no response but host was aware I had jumper cables in my vehicle. IF he sent a rescue vehicle it was not seen and is possibly still driving around in Oakland County. Arrived at @DizRotus approximately 5 minutes late after getting a jump from a kind young, Sparty hat wearing, dude who said he had spent 4 years in Columbus, Ohio. An assumption was made that he was a possible Buckeye graduate. An Ohio license plate ANYwhere in the State of ❌ichigan is totally ignored by most residents for some unknown reason. Most Buckeyes when in the State of ❌ichigan are compassionate and understanding. It should be noted that host was wearing a Sparty T-Shirt for some reason. After a cordial welcome by all involved we listened to a few tunes outside on his patio enjoying the sounds and his well-manicured estate. Lunch was served prior to going inside to listen to his main system. Sounded fantastic! Traveled to @ClaudeJ1 place w/host #1 safely. A mere folding chair on his porch was the designated smoking area which was the perfect option after about 30 minutes of listening to his system. A great spot to smoke, catch your breath, and to let your Central Nervous System un-wind! Yes, UN-WIND! Perhaps the host knew the chair would be needed. BOTH hosts were fantastic and know their Schiit! Summation: The "Buckeye" invasion was well received by all members of the group! The hosts were amazing! The other members of the chapter were cordial and time spent was refreshing! In all, one heck of a day with a group of guys I truly enjoyed spending time with. I look forward to the next meeting of the chapter and learning more about you all! Great time guys and enjoyed it more than you know! Recommendation: Eliminate ALL full-body massage requests. Subjects could lean on the interior or exterior walls of @ClaudeJ1 's residence and have the same experience. A fantastic foot massage is continuous inside. Hearing protection is recommended! Operator is SOOOO NOT RIGHT! 😂 😎

  2. Since weather was kind of crappy and muggy, my wife and I worked upstairs some today. I decided to put the Belle clones on the 15' wide "short wall" and I feel they sound better this way. I ran them on the VTA ST-70 for a little while but it's just too damn warm this time of year. I hooked up my fully rebuilt Carver M-200t which, rebuilt, is right at 140 wpc and it honestly sounds a little better on the Belles. Obviously its 4x the power, too, so it's coasting along pretty good. Moved some other things around but will post those later. But progress. With the tambor doors shut on the Barzillay cabinet. I love this thing and bought it maybe 13 years ago from the same retired Delta airlines pilot I bought the $500 1978 Walnut Klipschorns (that I had to unfortunately sell).

  5. No pops on side one of the first LP. It sound excellent `cept the first tune sounds not as good of a recording. It's been re-worked of course, and I believe it compliments my "Kiss The Sky" that sounds incredible from thirty years ago! Trying to work a deal with a vendor to replace the Floyd that I had again for just a little while, probably would listen to that more often than this... I just don't smoke weed anymore! https://www.songfacts.com/facts/jimi-hendrix/20-fine

  6. Well, my fellow Klipsheads just left. I'm sure their hearing will recover soon , but the younger ones will can no longer bear children. I think we were hitting 124 db peaks in the Sub Bass regions, with the "Flight of the Phoenix" plane crash. This should eventually reach 130 db peaks when I'm done building my Super Tapped horn Sub, which was still in pieces when they arrived. Thanks to DizRotus for organizing this event. Hope everyone had fun. I know I did. Looking forward to the next one.

  7. I hate to sell these but I am clearing out my building and have to let them go. I listen to these on almost a daily basis with La Scala's for rear channels. After research with the Klipsch factory, after I bought these, I believe these to be the first split subs they produced (SN MWM S 1001 through 1004). These serial numbers were hand stamped. Every option Klipsch offered was added to these stacks. Gauss HF-4000 mid drivers, Fiberglass and aluminum trim, Type-M passive 4-way crossover. Here is you chance to own a piece of history. I don't think too many of these have survived. $3500

  8. Good morning fellow Klipsch Brothers and Sisters: It's been a long time since I've poured my heart out to you all here on the forum. I used to post daily, but somehow, life and social media happened! Still, despite Facebook and all of its advantages, I prefer this forum to mainstream social media because it's simply more intimate and it's they way we all started as a family. It's akin to reading a real newspaper in your hands as opposed to reading it on line. Love the smell of newsprint! Many of you whom attended this years pilgrimage in Hope are already aware of the challenges the Lord had chosen for my bride Verna and I this year. And as word has traveled, we've received so many prayers, well wishes and so much love from so many corners of this orb. In short, in the beginning of this year, I was in need of two, total knee replacements. Verna got word in March of two issues just one week apart (can you imagine?): 1) "You have skin cancer on your forehead!" 2) "You have breast cancer in your right breast!" DOUBLE DAMN!!! March kinda sucked for us. In March my right knee was replaced successfully. Many of you saw the results in Hope and it's wonderful! The same month, they began treating Verna's basal cell on her forehead with a special chemo-type cream. Six weeks later, it was totally gone! In May, Verna underwent a lumpectomy for the removal of a pea-sized tumor. Her lymph nodes are clear (great news!) In June, they went back in and removed a section of skin the tumor had rested against that tested position for cancer markers. For those of you who unfortunately know "Cancer-Speak", she is Grade 1, Stage 1A which is like a best-case scenario. In short, she is currently enduring 4 massive treatments of chemo, one every three weeks, then a month's rest. After the month's rest, she'll begin 16 separate treatments of radiation: Once, five days a week until done. She should be through just before Thanksgiving. The chemo and radiation are purely precautionary so as to help insure the cancer doesn't return in 9 years as "something else". We'll have an enormous amount to be thankful for this year as they predict a full recovery for Verna!! To back-track slightly, I had my left knee replacement in July; an even greater success over the first (much less pain and greater initial range of movement). I am still currently recovering and in outpatient physical therapy after undergoing a successful two weeks of at-home therapy. I am unrestricted, on the go, kicking butt and taking names! So many of you have asked how we're doing that there aren't enough minutes in our day to answer everyone individually. So sorry about that. I could not be doing better and Verna has been an absolute, "Rock Star"! He has a few moments here and there of nausea as expected with chemo. Many things, including water, taste "metallic" to her. She gets tired easily. But she NEVER complains about anything! She lost her hair on Wednesday, so our daughter took her to the barber and he her gave her a "buzz cut"....on the house in a private room in the back of the shop! Classy guy! She has several scarfs that she wears and a wig, which she has yet to wear out because it's been pretty warm lately. But she's doing amazingly well! She's my Wonder Woman! Thanks to all of you who knew. Thanks for your continuous support. And it's been a pleasure telling the rest of you who were unaware of our journey. We will be fine! Love to all! -Glenn and Verna

  9. Alright folks 😲 This LP is knocking my socks off!! There are a couple more out there of these previously unreleased songs that might be cool too. So far only on side 3 but side 2 has a different version of Stepping Stone, $20 Fine that Stephen Stills does a great job on, well heck it's his song. Jungle is an interesting interlude. Geeze, never noticed how long Jimi's fingers were.... that might have had something to do with it!! They cover Joni's Woodstock! Nice.

  10. Glen, I wish I would have seen this earlier today before we met @ Neil's. I would have enjoyed sitting down praying with you! Both you and your wife will be in my prayers. I heard you mention your knee surgery and saw the scar, which looked great, on your right knee and never knew you just had your left one done. That moon walk at Claude's you did was ahhhmazing! Was that really you or just the good vibrations from that kick butt system??? 😂 😎 Your son is a great guy too! The pleasure was mine! Truly enjoyed the day with everyone!

  14. The September 2019 edition of Stereophile has a long-awaited review of the AK6 Klipschorn. The only word that comes to my mind after reading both the Measurements section and the review by Art Dudley is----disappointment. First the measurements: Once again, a Klipsch loudspeaker does not meet its sensitivity specification. That's odd for a Klipschorn as I would assume its sensitivity was measured in the trihedral corner of the Hope anechoic chamber (see grainy image). You'd think there would be less of the "room gain fudge-factor" Klipsch uses than the 3.9 dB sensitivity shortfall John Atkinson measured. For logistical reasons, the AK6 was measured out of doors sitting on a driveway. The AK6 frequency response specification is 33 Hz--20kHz + or - 4 dB. For a premium-priced loudspeaker, that spec should be + or - 3 dB or better. Atkinson measured the AK6 frequency response using nearfield (bass horn) and farfield (squawker/tweeter) measurement techniques. The AK6 frequency response measured: 33 Hz -20kHz +8 dB minus 15 dB (my interpretation of the FR curves). The +8 dB peak at 10kHz is as disappointing as the overall tweeter level which appears to be 3 dB too hot relative to the midrange. I won't comment on the bass horn measurements only to say that even though the back is enclosed, corner placement is, IMHO, the only location to measure the bass response of a Klipschorn. Second, the listening test: It wasn't clear from Dudley's review how the Klipschorns were located in his 17' x 12' x 8' listening room. Were they on the long wall or short wall? Dudley writes, I began with the backs of the Klipschorn AK6s a short distance from the front wall--their front surfaces, measured at the centers of the cabinets, were a little more than 3' from that wall, and a little more than 8' apart from each other--and with the the speakers slightly toed-in toward the center listening seat. Really? Where's my horsewhip? Who in their right mind would listen to Klipschorns eight feet apart and three feet away from a wall? In 2006 Klipsch turned down Dudley's request to review the 60th anniversary Klipschorn because his (Dudley's) listening room at the time couldn't accommodate corner placement. Did the current Klipsch marketing department considered asking for dimensions and images of Dudley's current listening room? His current listening room would IMHO be marginal even locating the AK6s on the 17' wall. My listening room was designed around my Klipschorns/Belle and is 24' wide, with 11' high side walls and a 23' vaulted ceiling. The sound quality and imaging is magnificent and is a system not tolerant of poorly recorded pablum. Unfortunately, I cannot scan the AK6 review and post it----my trusty Epson scanner is refusing to power up. Stereophile will post it soon enough on their web site. Gosh, you'd think Klipsch would have posted the past two Stereophile Klipsch loudspeaker reviews on the web site by now. Lee

  15. Hello fellow Klipsch lovers. I am your true audio geek, and I wanted to share with you my experiences, especially with the Kilpsch speakers. I bought my first really nice stereo, 46 years ago. A set of BIC Venturi formula Sixes, a Pioneer 838 receiver and a Gerrard Zero 100 turntable. I was in audio bliss for a number of years until I decided to “upgrade”. Well that journey has lasted another 40 years. Bigger speakers, amps, turntables, over and over again. Currently I have a pair of Focal Nova Utopia's, Quad 2805's and a pair of Carver ALS loudspeakers, 3 different sub woofers (good ones), VAC amps, Pass lab amps, great CD player, nice turntable etc. But still with all this gear, I have never enjoyed listening to music as much as I did when I had my old BIC formula Sixes and my Pioneer 838. Well, two months ago, after about 2 years of researching, reading your forum and audio reviews, I took yet another plunge and purchased a pair of Klipsch Cornwall 3's. I can only tell you that I have never enjoyed listening to music more than I have in the last 2 months. Every album or CD I play on these Klipsch's just sounds great!. Smooth, ultra dynamic, clean and most of all, just wonderful. No more does my mind start to think, or analyze or find fault or anything else. I have finally returned to just listening and enjoying the music like I did 46 years ago. The Klipsch speakers just sound great on every piece of music I have and for this, I am so grateful. What an exceptional speaker, these Klipsch's truly are. I have come full circle.

  18. Thank you for providing a long and thorough response! I feel as though I'm on the right track as far as order of purchases goes. I already own a PS4 Pro and Sony UBPX700 blu-ray player. I took your advice and visited Best Buy and another local entertainment store that I wasn't previously aware of, and listened to various AVR and speaker configurations. I resisted the urge to start purchasing things right then and there, as I wanted to come home and continue my research. Here's where the listening and experience and research has led me. Marantz SR5013 7.2 Channel AVR Klipsch RP8000f Klipsch RP404C Above would be my initial setup. It aligns well with my current budget and should give me a solid setup until I'm ready to purchase sub(s) and rear surrounds, which were hard to get a feel for in either of the stores I visited. Perhaps I will look around for those with similar setups to this and see what they used, liked and or disliked and go from there. Does this seem like a solid approach?

  23. Yeah In my younger days I used to subscribe to that magazine, but got tired of every review claiming improved “pacing”, “tempo”, “enhanced soundstage”, “better transparency”, and on and on... Sure, there ARE improvements you can make, but it seemed that every single one was night and day. You’d think that if you applied all of them it’d blow your mind. I gave up one day when a digital interconnect resulted in better tempo. My bet is that the bitstream was the same before and after, but for the hundreds of dollars this thing cost, it just had to be better. I did not renew.

  27. I hear ya all the way down here in NC!! Bummed, found out that the folks up at that used record store five blocks away can't order stuff. Corporate does it. So I just got lucky with that Claypool/Lennon Delerium lp. Still they're nice people. Had to give that Floyd with the pops a dozen revolutions in back to them. Scouring discogs now, trigger finger itching after hearing that lp on my F3's as opposed to the last time I played that title on my H IIs. Found a Hendrix compilation to go with the other I have already for an even trade... hope it plays like new should. Is it sacrilegious to listen to Steely Dan on cd?? The two I have already are from the 60s then their very last one. They are good over on the digital side. My copies of Aja & Gaucho through the analog side of my rig is just elbow tingling good.

  29. I'd say that if your speakers go down to 35hz, get the sub to just play below that. Even if it's playing rolled off bass, it's still playing it and the effect adds to the music even if you're not sure if you're hearing it or not. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  30. I had my Hersey’s HD201 on their side with highs facing out. Worked great they set on top of my Fortes. But because if the projector screen. I ended up turning them up size down on top of the Fortes. Which puts their highs inline with ears. Also they line up with the center one that’s setting on a sub in the center. 36. Here you go, Mr. Reviewer, from page 3 of the manual, under the heading "Placement": "The Klipschorn (AK6) has a fully enclosed low frequency horn and no longer has to be flush to the corner in order to operate properly. The Klipschorn can now be toed in or out to obtain the best imaging. The corner still serves as an extension of the low frequency horn, improving low frequency performance. For best results, Klipsch highly recommends the Klipschorn be placed in the proximity of a corner."

  38. Interservice BS and other service BS picking at each other Naval aviation: mechs are nose pickers; electronic technicians are coneheads, electricians are one wires..... Air Force guys performed one job....one to take the wheel off and another specialty to put it back on. This is / was true to some extent. No cross training When I interviewed for a job on the Air Force F-22 program I was asked what system I had experience with. My answer was all aircraft systems...engines, hydraulic, airframes, electrical, etc. The hiring manager (zero military experience) who had been interviewing Air Force folks just couldn't understand why there was such a difference in training/learning/experience between the services. Simply look at the number of personnel assigned to maintain X number of aircraft in the AF vs Navy. I got the job. Joke here was that the Coast Guard never sailed out further from shore than they could walk back if sunk. Not true by any stretch but......
