  1. RandyH, this is the place for a party waiting to happen. Jeeper: dtel, that will be a great place to hang out. Good looking XJ you have, Well it will be a good place for me to hang out but other people would rather about 100' away, just to the left behind the jeep the garden starts, in the garden is the bar. A much better place for others to hang out, and me. It's what I am best at hanging out, it's what old people do.

  2. Funny story about Emerson. Did not have much as a kid but my Parents surprised me one Christmas with an Emerson all in one stereo from Ames department store which included an Am Fm tuner an 8-track player and a record player with two speakers. I was happy beyond belief. One of my fondest memories. As crazy as it sounds, it was my gateway into this life long love of music and all things audio.

  3. Actually Barney was trying to set Andy up with a date. Lydia says her name means "a native of Lydia but I'm not from Lydia I'm from Greensboro". Barney tells Lydia that Andy plays the guitar and she makes her statement. She also says she hates the outdoors "it give me the herpes". Gomer's date was Thelma Lou's cousin (different girl) and the 6 of them were going to a dance when Gomer bolts from the house starting a big fight. Gomer saw the other girls had a corsage and he left to get his date one.

  4. Small group listening session last evening. 😂 3 friends I know and a couple fems came over. It was rough! Killed a half gallon of Fireball not to mention the beer. They called and asked so that was cool. Nice when they walk in w/the drinks too. 😂 2nd Covid shot today so taking it easy. Feeling pretty good so far.

  5. The building was up for a year, I got bored took down those boards and put them on a table and did that. I tried a dremel first and it was very slow. So I took the bottom plate off the router and put a bit in it kind of shaped like a V and just held it in my hand like a dremel, this was much faster. Safe, probably not but as long as I didn't drop it in my lap it was fine. Then on the edge of the pond on the bar side is red cedar boards, there is a different design on each one. I asked someone since I can't draw how can I get designs on the boards to carve, they had a very simple idea. Find designs you want and print them, use carbon paper and draw over the design and the carbon paper will mark the wood. It worked great and was easy. Sone a just drawn some are with the stencil, just odd designs.

  6. Great response to a Chuck posting: https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/atq/d/indianapolis-re-sansui-g8000-kenwood/7285922177.html I would copy and paste the text, but I think it would get me suspended for a while.

  14. I started out in audio with an all-in-one turntable am/fm Panasonic receiver with chrome slide controls (I sit here and smile just thinking about it). It also had a pair of 2 way sealed speakers with 6” woofers that came as part of the package; it actually sounded pretty good (except for the transistor hiss at volume during quiet passages). I remember when my Dad lost a channel in his Heathkit AR-15 receiver he built. He asked to borrow my Panasonic unit to drive his Bozak 302s until he had time to fix it; I was pleased and honored with his decision, although I was without my tunes for a couple of weeks. Well, on reflection, I guess any unit (cheap or expensive) that captures our hearts giving us a lifetime of love and appreciation for music is worthy of respect. I start this day with a smile and new found wisdom. Cheers!

  15. Probably I didn't for a couple reasons, cost would have slowed everything down and putting the metal on with insulation between the metal and the frame is a pain and much harder. I am hoping with a 10' wide x 9' high door on each end plus fans it won't be to bad, the doors are north and south which is where the wind is out of during the summer. It's way more circulation and openings than I am use to where I have been working, not saying it was not hot but here everything is hot in the summer, just being in the shade is a big part. We will see soon enough. Thank you, it' the kind of thing that happens when you have time and get bored, I need to stay busy, don't do well without a project.

  17. Oh no, the best would have to be a Lloyds receiver with integrated 8-track and turntable, my very first stereo, Christmas 1970. If I still had it, I would definitely use it to power my K-horns.

  18. As a child, I remember hearing Korean war broadcasts over our Emerson. I was especially interested in the cannon [artillery] fire. Kids had plastic Bazookas that fired ping pong balls. The Emerson was open backed. When the HiFi craze started in about 1952 or so* I got my parent's permission to use the Emerson's (12"??) speaker and cabinet as the speaker as my fledgling HiFi speaker (I didn't have the real thing yet, which a few years later was a JBL D130). I moved that Emerson all around the living room. Can you guess where it sounded best? The corner. *pre-Stereo, solidly mono, except reel to reel tape, a crazy Cook double cartridge record playing system and certain movies in CinemaScope, 70mm Todd-AO, etc.

  19. do love me that cherry patina Glad you like it too. The darkening is a logarithmic function meaning it darkens a lot on first exposure to UV then slows down with time.

  27. You can always go back and do it if you think it's necessary. The important thing is that you have music and really big speakers, and you've got that in spades, it appears. I have a big building to put up this year, and a friend that lost a barn recently (way under insured), and looking at steel because of the huge difference in material costs right now.

  30. I finished my second Pfizer dose yesterday. The usual sore arm (not a big deal) which was slightly worse after dose number two. Within about 6 hours after the 2nd dose I started feeling tired and climbed in bed with a good book. Next day, I am at about 90%. It really was not a big deal (and I am old and like to complain). It is quite amazing that they were able to roll out a very effective vaccine so quickly. . Good luck and I encourage everyone to take this disease seriously, -Tom

  36. I have a 1939 Philco console I restored that does not look too dissimilar - it performs very well. Interestingly, the old Philco says “Melissa, Christmas 1938” written in pencil on the vacuum tube ID tag inside. I’m sure they listened to WWII broadcasts during the war. Emerson consoles were not considered top of the line in the day, but were good units. Emerson has a rich, American history dating back to the 1920s, but sometime in the early 1970s they began importing CHEAP radios, stereos, etc eventually becoming the Emerson Radio Corporation, which was a mere shadow of their former self. My original reference was to the cheap stuff from the 70s and 80s; it was ubiquitous in discount stores (even drug stores) at the time.

  42. They have been out there over a week now, and it has been played loud a few times, quite the echo for now but once all the tools go in and a little insulation on the West wall it will be better, sounds good enough for now as I work on it. Just glad to have it going even to this point. There will be no electrical out there not on a GFIC, just to be safe. Only thing left on electrical is install the GFIC outlets at the beginning of each run and finish extending and hiding the hanging light cords 4 of those left and the inspector can come by. 10, 4' led lights light it up like daylight. .

  45. my Cornwall 1980 sounded muffled 10 years ago , the highs and midrange were dull -and the sound was vague , the tweeter or the midrange sounded like 100$ speakers -the HF and mids were lacking , LF was very boomey ---total lack of clarity --capacitors replaced ----and the Highs sparkled and the midrange cleared up with detail - Now oddly , my Heresy 1 -1977 and 1980 are as good as they were 40 years ago , I know the caps are old , but damn do these speakers sound amazing and I am hooked on that sound ---
