  3. Evening Gang Enjoying an IPA and taking a break from stereo repair. One of the Farmers brought over an old two channel Amp that he said has not worked for years. An hour on the bench and three Beers later it's crankin. (Cold solder joint) This Farmer is an Olive rancher 50 miles north, just called him and told him come pick up your unit on the farm in the morning and bring the wife some Olives, lets see where this goes. Farmers make it too dam easy to go out and help, their latest perk is go fill up the Diesel before ya leave, from one of their 1KGal tanks, so from now on i will not be complaining of fuel prices, they buy in bulk i guess and get a hell of a deal Have a good evening gang, off to surf for project parts

  4. Relatively very tolerable here for last couple or 3 then in the mornings. Like the nice relative low humid as well. Certain crispness in the air. Critters should be getting some relief as well. Cat noticed doe outside kitchen window. Been around a couple of years or 3. She has a bed out back where she lives at times. Never cared for biting insects much but, figure they must play a role. Doing some domestics lately and reading with interest your posts and pics are fun. Thanks, And Tarheel read you are planning. make the scene over to Rodneys' Place. Hope others here too. Alright then...

  12. Morning gang, getting ready to head down to the lake for one last time, last night for camping. 2" lift kit done, radiator done, right front wheel bearing done, left front ujoint done. Lift kit did exactly what I wanted it to do, level the Jeep out. It came with an add a leaf for the rear, but I decided against installing since the jeep wouldn't sit level. I need to have the ball joints done, but I will take it to a shop for that its just one job I don't feel like doing on the garage floor. Be careful, have a good time. Bye Bye have a wonderful time everybody.

  13. To my little family! I am proud to present Samantha Mae! Born 10/21/15 at 1:57pm 6lbs 11oz. We were about to head to the hospital, and while my wife was taking a shower to get ready, she yelled my name and said the baby was coming. A few pushes later this little bundle was born...... in our bathroom Fun story to tell when she's older.

  21. OneCall and Crutchfield still have new RB-61 IIs in Cherry for $350. More than you want to spend but this is way less in price compared to when they were the current line. Comes with manufacturer's warranty, OneCall says 5 years parts and 5 years labor. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_714RB61IIC/Klipsch-Reference-RB-61-II-Cherry.html?tp=186 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-RB-61-II-Cherry-Pr-2-Way-Bookshelf-Speakers-/171975469262?hash=item280a8968ce:g:y7EAAOSwdvpWDr3c

And I had a panic attack when I saw someone messed up on a whiteboard outside of the room, so I had to quickly fix it:

  25. No. Based on our primitive technology, interstellar travel is impossible. The closest star to us (besides the sun) is Alpha Centauri at 4.3 light years away. For example, if we were to use the Space Shuttle... it would take 165,000 years to get there. Plus it's catch 22. With our limited fossil fuel rocket technology, you would need a tremendous amount of fuel to get there. That required amount of fuel has immense weight. In order to lift the weight of the fuel load, you need even more fuel during launch in order to escape Earths gravity. There's not enough fossil fuel on the entire planet to achieve either feat. We are a long ways from leaving out solar system. Kinda sad.

  31. Back at it with the cornscalas. We are calling this Project Hulk... I believe its the 1st time the Eliptrac 240 horn is being used. What we have here is the Crites Cornscala bin (additional bracing and some adjustments to the volume), paired with Kappa 15C. Baffles were done for use by Dave… CNC cutting at it finest. The Bass bins ride on a Base-plate with the caster bolted down. The Base-plate will be bolted to the bottom of the base bin. Will allow for easy movement. Top Hats are Eliptrac 240 2” horn with BMS 4592ND-MID crossed at 300hz with an ALK ES300. The HF is handled by the Dave’s Contrac horn and the B&C DE120 crossed at 4500hz with an ES4500. The owner wanted the inside of the mouths to be highlighted… they will have grills so only be present when off. [/url]

  33. John has endured page after page of insults, and when he's finally had enough, it's time to lock the thread? This was John's thread, and Al had no business trolling in it. Though subtle and veiled, the personal attacks on John started almost immediately. There was a reason Amy banned Al, and it doesn't look like he learned anything during his absence. Best plot in the thread.

  34. If you Google "analog tone controls", and click on "images", you are going to get a page full of filters, incorporating the use of passive components used to make contour circuits. A tone control works by lowering or raising the amplitude of certain frequencies to make them sound softer or louder. Obviously, a tone control doesn't do any signal splitting like a crossover does, but it does use a a series of filters to raise and lower the output. A crossover is a filter that splits a full range signal and routes the appropriate portion to a specific driver. That's easy enough I suppose. But what happens if we ask the question, "If that's all a crossover is doing, then why do the crossovers built for the same loudspeaker sound so different?" With the exception of the new stock Klipsch networks, all of the aftermarket crossovers use the same transition points used for 60 years; 400Hz and 6000Hz. When we talk about crossovers, we talk about different types. We also talk about something else; we talk about "rolloff", or the slope used for each section. The "slope" is the rate at which the level of the given range of frequencies increases or decreases - per octave. So we have 6dB/octave (first order), 12dB/octave (second order), 18dB/octave (third order), and so on. We all know that "dB" relates to loudness, and so maybe now might be a good time to start thinking about what's really happening when we choose a specific "slope", or rate of increase or decrease of the audio level for a driver. A crossover filter not only routes selected frequencies to the various drivers, but because of the selected slope, also determines how much power is given to the selected range of frequencies. Using a 100 watt amplifier, a tweeter with an 18dB/octave slope, crossed over at 5000Hz, will receive 1.6 watts from the amplifier. That same tweeter, crossed over at the same 5000Hz with a first order or 6dB/octave filter, will get hit with 25 watts. The slopes you choose play a significant role in the voicing of the loudspeaker. I think it's pretty obvious that filters of all types are engaged in the manipulation of power, which ultimately determines not just what we hear, but how much or how little of it. This is why I see a strong affinity with tone controls. On the other point, I'd like to thank Al for the supporting evidence which underscores what I said about the true behavior of the woofer -- motor behavior is an impediment to using microwave filter design in loudspeakers.

  35. Not sure. It has a little over 400 in it now. I would guess maybe 600 or less. Have you added them to blu ray.com? Blu-ray I like it when Im looking for a movie to watch. Would probably take you a few days to enter in 1400 lol. Actually I have my collection uploaded in DVD Profiler. I paid $25 for the program around the dawn of DVD and still use it to this day! Yeah the rack was a challenge, I picked it up for $100 on Craigslist, but shelving for those things is high, adds up when you need a dozen shelves. Shame the iNuke can't just mount in it, the was it mounts makes it stick out too far and I can't close the glass door.

  36. I don't know a price. You would need to find out from someone who's perhaps bought them or, call a dealer yourself (Panecea Engineering, American Cinema, others...) That said, my rough understanding is, they are 'about' $750 for the horn lens and the K69 driver. No tray to mount them on (like comes with the K402) and no complimentary chocolate mint on your pillow.

  40. Currently running a pair of Chorus. Also, will need a pre-out for a sub if I go the integrated route. Would prefer just a straight 2-channel amp. With those you will be amazed what 20-25 watts will do. My speakers are just over 100dB efficient and my amps are 22 SET watts. I had to get rid of my McIntosh preamp and go passive because I don't need any gain. My previous amps were EL34 push pull and put out 45 watts. I had to set their input gain at -25dB to have usable volume control.

  43. Jim, I'm confident you'll be okay. My observation is that there are only four ways Klipsch has worked with grills. 1) In the old days the fabric was attached by hundreds of staples to the front board and it is difficult to undo. 2) A grill frame attached to the box with Velcro. 3) A grill frame attached to the box with magnets. Like your Forte II. 4) A grill from attached to the box with "little plastic nothings" which are ball and socket contraptions. Parts Express sells them. See picture below. Sorry to hear about the problem with telephone contact with Klipsch. It just shows they should have someone like ex-employee Michael Colter (sp corrected) manning the phone. When he was hired he wanted to know everything and as a result knew just about everything. WMcD

  44. Tube amps are know for class A style output, even ordered harmonic which deliver a warm sound. Jolida is a well respected brand and at $600, It is a good grab. Some the tube guys will chime in with much more info than I can give you. It should be a safe purchase that can be flipped if you don't like it.

I hate to leave the guy unload a cord of wood by himself but it's over now, I love the smell of a stack of Oak. The scientist quote is funny and true.
