  2. Yeah... that's exactly what mine looked coming out of the factory packaging... except, you know... with damage Congratulations again. I remember when I first fired mine up I was really shocked and extremely concerned because it wasn't a much better experience than my modded Cornwall, it was much worse. Slowly I began a journey down the tube component path that started with a tube pre amp removing my all class d pre amp... Slowly it started to come around to the point now where the system sound so good it's a little scary. The La Scala II is an astonishingly good system when paired with the correct up stream components. It's to the point now where I have, for the time being, shelved my immediate plans to get a modded Jubilee in a desperate search for the sound I have been looking for and I am going to stay with the LS for a long while. This all after I added the VRD to my NBS.

  3. I recently put these together to elevate the F2's off the floor 9-10". I was looking to take some of the 'boom out of the room' and get the mids higher off the floor. We recently had to pull all the rugs and clear out most of the furniture in the room (14'x30') because of a new puppy so I felt this might be a good time to try and make some stands out of what I could find in the garage. The wood is African Paduak left over from a counter project I did years ago. In regards to improvement in sound, the environment is not ideal (glass and wood) but I did notice a marked change for the better with the stands. We tend to do most of our listening while upright so while standing they did sound better-less boom.. And as a great bonus putting these stands together was a nice distraction from work bs.

  5. So much sunlight coming in from that back window it's ridiculous. I will take some better ones later. These were going to go upstairs, really not sure about that now. Think the Palladiums would make the trip up the stairs much better than these beasts. Why didn't anyone tell me? I rely on you people to keep me out of trouble. I believe they are twice as heavy as my old LS 1's. Good grief the top hat weighs as much.... At any rate I have to say the packaging is amazing. Really. So here's a few shots, most are bad but hey with this toe take what you can get.....

  12. Wooohoo!!! Been wanting a quality home theater set up for awhile. So I shuffled down to an estate sale and there were some electronics left over that didn't sell the prior weekend. Unfortunately, my excitement was tempered as the electricity was turned off in the house so anything that required a plug in was doa. The Estate sale guy could not get the home owner to turn it back on all week. With that, a few people left. Deals had to be cut as it was only 6 people in line at this "do over" sale even with everything half off. That trend would have continued. I perused the offerings and told the sales agent I'm good as he knows I like electronic items and without juice to test them I'm loathed to buy. He then made an offer I couldn't pass up WITH a guarantee that it worked. I was skeptical as my wife would kill me if I brought something home that didn't work. I'd be doa. So I took the plunge at $350 for the pair. Not knowing what to expect I hooked them up and immediately was smitten with them. As you all know these high powered amps and receivers are laid bare by the super efficient speakers. Wow. I'm duly impressed. Clean is the word I'd use to describe them much like my Marantz 2500. THANKFULLY it's in our bedroom which gave me the opportunity to throw the damn Integra receiver out the window. Could not stand the sound of that. Apologies in advance for the not so professional video. https://goo.gl/photos/WQjePnjfSznSudbYA

  13. I literally love mine so much that sometimes I'll leave it on for a while even I wake up in the morning. It's like an old friend. I kept my machine from Dec '98 until 2 months ago. Yes it ran almost 19 YEARS, never serviced. It did have a high pitched whine so my wife mandated a new one. I bought a Phillips dreamstation that auto adjusts. That thing is virtually silent.

  25. I decided on taking money back in return for keeping the damaged units. Mechanically they are perfect, cosmetically not so much. Sometimes it bothers me, most of the time it does not because where else would I be able to get a pair of LSii's for <$1500.

  33. Well yea I did read his responses to the mess just before I joined at this thread. I see how those couple of ideas thrown around would not do as intended, but the opposite. Scrap that. @Scrappydue turned me on to a dealer here @MetropolisLakeOutfitters, and we talked (dealer & I) just a couple days ago. I might be among the first of the group but I'd bet there are some closer to Hope that could get set up sooner. Plus the Fourth Of July might delay things. Nothing wrong with Heresys to me either, but to go 12hz lower without having to spread a couple of subs out will be great. The new mid and high drivers with noted sound stage improvements!!! Bi-wiring will give me 120w/ channel that's a boost for my system. I'll let you guys/gals know and maybe flood the thread with pics cut only halfway down, my phone makes `em 4032 X 3024 pixels.

  34. If they are the common Klipsch outdoor speakers, one or more of these amps will do it. Klipsch speakers are more efficient than most, so you shouldn't need lots of power. However, I can't imagine a worse place than in a cabinet under a sink for amplifiers. https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-ma1240a-multi-zone-12-channel-amplifier--300-815 https://www.parts-express.com/lepai-lp-269fs-4x45w-mini-amplifier-with-remote-usb-mp3-media-card-fm-and-bluetooth-antenna--310-304 https://www.parts-express.com/lepai-lp7498e-200w-class-d-stereo-amplifier-with-bluetooth-aptx-and-power-supply--310-298 The small Class D/T amps are made in China and vastly overrated for power output, by 1.5 to 2x. They do have bluetooth or wi-fi to allow you to stream music off of your phone, network, etc. However, you should not need more then 20 watts/speaker, unless you are torturing the neighbors.

  36. Be REAL careful about how much bracing you put in there. Remember, every cubic inch of material put in that cabinet also decreases the needed internal cab volume.

  39. Ok, so I spent an hour or so doing some A/B comparison. As I've always stated, I am in no way an audiophile, merely an audio hobbyist and I do not consider myself to have what others call "critical ears". With that said, here are the notes I took during my first listening session from the Heresy III vs RF7ii. Most of the songs below I would listen to the through to the first chorus and then switch speakers. I meant to A/B without the RT-12D but I didn't realize it was on until after the first few songs. I believe I turned the sub off before listening to Tracy Chapman - Fast Car. Sia - Chandalier (Piano Version) Heresy sound amazing! Vocals were rich, highs were detailed without being too bright. Nice soundstage and overall presence. RF7ii were more enveloping with equal amount of detail. Edwin McCain - I Could Not Ask for More Heresy - Loved how rich the guitar was at the beginning. Edwin McCain - I'll Be Loved how the sax sounded with Heresy over the RF7ii Bass from acoustic guitar is almost non-existent with the Heresy III. Nice and full with RF7ii Tracy Chapman - Fast Car Hi hat at beginning is much more detailed and pronounced in the RF7ii than with the Heresys Voice sounds more natural in RF7ii than Heresys. Bass line of course is rich, full and has some punch with the RF7's but the Heresy sounds descent, not anemic in the bottom end. RF7 were more full and enveloping, Heresy sounded small and much less forward No comparison here, RF7ii is the clear overall winner in this track in every aspect Stay (with Alessia Carr) - Zedd Snare Drum is soft and laid back Bass notes at the beginning of the track are well below the capability of the Heresys. Instrumental just before the second verse the bass is much better. You can hear it but definitely not felt or punchy. RF7ii has a more full sound. Snare is more defined and up front. Again clear winner with the RF7ii. Happier - Ed Sheeran Vocals sound too deep with Heresys. Vocals sound more natural with RF7ii Million Reasons - Lady Gaga Heresys are more laid back where RF7ii are brighter, and more detailed and precise Malibu - Miley Cyrus Electric guitar and vocals were a bit bright and too forward on RF7ii, Heresys sounded better to my ears as they were a bit more laid back. I chose these songs to try and get a variety of elements I could listen for (male vocals, female vocals, drums, guitar, etc). I have to say, Spotify Premium is AMAZING! I never realized how useful it is to be able to search for any track and play it vs the Free Version that only allows you to skip songs. To me the audio quality sounded better as well. Not sure if my brain was telling me it sounded better because I know the Premium has a higher bitrate. If there are some songs you feel are great demo songs, let me know the Artist and Title and I'll do some A/B comparison, and share my thoughts on it.

  45. I'm not big on sharing my issues but have great sympathy or those that suffer. But, for the first time I will share my experiences. I'm 64 years old. I worked in Train & Engine Service for a Class I railroad for 36 years and retired. Out of high school I applied for a 2 year course in Radiology at UAB and was one of 30 accepted to a 2 year program after which I could work and advance. I decided not to attend 6 months after graduating high school and was later rejected 6 months after that. Stupid kid. I've always been interested in the human body and wanted to be in medicine of some kind. Maybe this will help you to understand my following remarks. Over the years my employer cut employees in my craft by 50% which left plenty of work for me and others. I loved the challenge and was too stupid to slow down. The last 6 months that I worked I trained new hires. I wore their a$$es out. One was a defensive lineman for Mississippi State. He played for Cleveland for 2 years and later had 2 one year contracts with other teams (can't remember who). He was 30 and didn't rise to the top so he was looking for permanent employment. Great guy. After 11 hours of all night work he was dragging. I asked if he was tired and he said 'yeah'. I told him that the part of the job that I really liked was when I was down on my knees crawling in the ballast. I told him not to ever let the company think that they were hurting him. I said when you feel like you've been kicked in the nuts just stick out that big chest and say ' may I have another please sir'. Great guy, I hope he succeeded. One year to the day after retiring I had chest pains while cutting grass. I had been taking blood pressure/cholesterol medicine for several years. Went to cardiologist and had blockage in 2 arteries, 90% and 95%. They wondered why I was alive. Admitted but refused surgery. Hours later the thoracic heart surgeon came in the room and asked why I didn't want to have the bypass immediately. I told him I had plans and could not make it until September 11th. He said 'excellent choice'. He released me. The day after surgery the surgeon and his clipboard came into the room. He asked if I had been up that day. I told him no, the rehab lady did not come by. He said well if you're not going to get out of that bed I'm not going to release you, turning and walking out to the CICU nurses desk. As he was walking out I said doc, if you'll walk with me I'll give you 5 miles right now. He kept walking to the station. I get up, walk out past him making 5 trips back to the end of the corridor, looping the station and back to bed. He walked back in behind his clipboard and said Mr. xxxxx, looks like you get to go home today. I told him that I walked for a living and could walk 15 miles right now in my robe. "This right here ain't shit", I said pointing to the tubes coming out of my chest. He laughed and left the room. Great Surgeon. Great guy. Utmost respect for him. Six months later, heart attack. Third artery was bypassed during previous surgery (unknown to me) and had to be stinted. Three years later while stomping around the white quartz in Florida I had a strange feeling, like I couldn't catch my breath. But I could catch my breath. It had happened before. I had a routine visit with my cardiologist 2 weeks after that. Great guy. He asked how I was doing. I told him the problem. He asked what I thought it was. I told him either pneumonia or lung cancer. He scheduled a chest x-ray. It turned out to be option B. Stage 3 Adenocarcinoma. Started Chemo late last November. Finished mid-May. During that period I had 33 radiation treatments utilizing the Varian TrueBeam system. A month after all treatment I had a scan that showed the 2cm tumor on my lung and the cells in lymph nodes in my chest were gone. No sign of cancer. Go back in September for the next scan. Having breathing problems again. My oncologist said I had too much radiation. Pulmonary doctor has me on high dosage of steroids, that's why I'm awake right now. I found experiencing the cancer to be interesting. The experience of it and how my body reacted to the treatment. My oncologist said that I had the strongest body that he had treated. That soon changed. Since this is so long I'll come back and share my experiences later. The process was interesting. I'll give a hint: It's the absolute lowest feeling you'll ever have in your life, unless you experience it. It's like you're down, down on the ground low. jorjen, chin up chest out buddy. Good luck to you. Keith
