  2. I thought people didn't sprinkle their lawns in California, or is it just some places ? There was a news story this week that in California you couldn't bathe and wash clothes on the same day, would bathing with your clothes on solve that ? Next they will want people to bathe with a neighbor, this will cause some to move to a neighborhood with better looking neighbors.

  7. Agree with all ^^^. When dealing with good 2-channel sound in solid state Marantz comes up quite often. Somewhere there is a thread "amps that sound good with Klipsch" or words to that effect. You might try to search and find it because I think it addressed @Fido questions.

  9. Up for sale is a pair of Klipsch Heresy I speakers in HBR (Raw birch). They look to have been finished with a nice lacquer look at some point. Both are in good shape except for a little chip on the edge of one (shown in last picture). Grilles are also in great shape. Both speakers have the tweeters upgraded to Bob Crites' CT-125 model tweeters as well as his crossover upgrades. Will ship in original boxes and packaging or local pickup in central Florida. Price: $425 + whatever actual shipping is from 32909. Pictures: https://imgur.com/a/duYfFd7

  10. A potentially stupid question: is there a way to have both the TV picture on whilst listening to music? I used to be able to do this years ago although I cannot recall how. These days everything runs through my Marantz 5008 AVR. My wife and I are football addicts and watch just about every world cup match. With some of the lesser matches it would be nice to do both. Same thing during hockey season with company over. I am assuming this has something to do with HDMI connections, or a function within the AVR I am unaware of. Any tips would be appreciated.

  12. I bought this amplifier new from a friend 2 months ago, I broke the original box seal myself, and set it up with my Klipsch La Scalla II's II. I truly loved the sound, but I felt I would have to buy a matching tube pre amp for it, and do not want to spend the money. Decided to go with an Integrated PrimaLuna Dialogue HP (tubes) and Although the MC275 sounded better with the La Scalla's, the PL is a bit more functional for my situation I have less then 30 hours conservatively speaking of use on it. it works great. I have all original boxes and accessories, it works like a champ. Nothing has been changed on it, just plugged it and connected to my speakers. Hope someone will find a loving home for this beautiful baby. It is worth every penny you pay for it. Pm if interested. Pictures to follow soon.

  13. Very nice set up. I try to keep things simple. I don’t need room shaking bass anymore and I’m not a big fan of “one note wonders.” I like a big full range efficient tower. I’m leaning toward three way towers currently. I do need more critical listening time.

  15. i am gonna mention this ,i have my klf 30 s bridged mode and the bass that i get outa them will surprise you bonzo ,but i often experiment and tweak a lot with all my system ...that is why i prefer a pro power amp . you can kick the crap out of it and run it in stereo ,y mode and bridge it , and it will really take it all without breaking a sweat .i do have an hsu vtf15h mk 2 so i really never need to set my 30 s below 40 hz

  16. So what are you waiting for? I agree, I always thought that the sonicaps sounded harsh, but was never sure as my hearing isn't the greatest for detail. When I redid my Heresy center, I just went with Dayton 1%, for the cost, would much rather use them over the sonic caps. Maybe someday for my Heresys in my 2 channel rig I will use something like the Audiocap PPTs. I have no issue with the stock drivers and settings in my Cornwalls and Heresys that I use in my living room, which is used primarily for any tv/movie watching. Just my 2 cents.

  17. Spent some time at the house last night - and decided to run the pink noise room tuning routine on the DEQ2496 to see how flat the response is in the room... I was shocked... Here is the "auto-tuned" curve.. That's the flattest curve I've ever gotten in this room.. These drivers and crossover really are nice and flat in overall response.

  21. Seriously, change the mid tap from 4 to 3 on the T2A, and change the 13uf to a 6.8uf. This has been a long standing mod that lots and lots of folks have done and are very pleased with the results. And, ditch the Sonicaps and get the Audiocap PPT Thetas.

  25. I’m sure the upgrade would be just that, an upgrade and improvement. Myself, I have always been partial to Marantz products. They seem to work well with Klipsch speakers for some reason.

  28. Yeah Dave, I enjoyed the CF-3 clone JBL SVA-2100 when I owned them. The titanium compression driver sounded really nice. Problem with me was that the tweeter was perfect if I were sitting down, but if I was standing or working in the room with them playing the tweeter was so much lower that I feel a lot of the music was lost. With the KLF-20 and 30 I find the tweeter and mid to be pretty neutral whether you are sitting or standing. They are high enough to give you the experience of the highs regardless of your position. I still miss my SVA 2100 though, they did sound pretty sweet. Years ago my buddy had a pair of CF-3 or 4 that I got to enjoy on a regular basis, can't knock them at all sound wise, only for positioning of the tweeter so low in the cabinet. Tim

  29. One hundred watts per channel is NOT low wattage. This especially is true with Klipsch speakers that need less than 10 watts per channel to reproduce a movie. His receiver may be a weak link, but is not likely responsible for his changing sound quality.

  30. This is really true, some are terrible and some are very good. It just depends, there is no telling until you flip channels, dish receiver and HDMI. When you find a good one even some of the commercials the audio is amazing, sounds crazy I know.

  31. I am 100% with you on this. My cable provider is Suddenlink but that is not the big factor. I feel the HD broadcast signal is heavily compressed, no highs, no lows, very thin sound. With a touch of a button I can check the incoming signal and see how my AVR is processing it, 5.1 vs Stereo. My living room TV setup is listed in my Signature, below. I have compared sound especially BASS in cable TV movies and it is a pale comparison to BD or DVD. FWIW the sound is better when I use the Set Top Box instead of going directly through my TV which I'm sure has a cheap DAC. I have The Force Awakens on Blu-ray, and of course it is all over the TV these days with commercials, so I have a direct comparison in sound. The BD sound is TREMENDOUS, shakes the room, while the broadcast version is "meh." My previous anemic setup was: CABLE ---> HDTV ---> SPDIF Out ---> Marantz 6011 AVR My best sound for TV is: Set Top Box ---> Marantz 6011 AVR ---> HDTV And as you observed Blu-ray blows anything else out of the water audio-wise and it's not even close.

  33. I guess it's just a difference in priorities. If one cares more about home theater, bells and whistles, convenience, etc., I guess that's ok. However, if sonics are at the top of the list, another discussion is in order..... Shakey

  34. Man. This is terribly sad news. I was an engineer at Rockwell when Dennis was hired. I knew him from the Audio Room in the 1970s and ‘80s. He was very knowledgeable about everything he found interesting. Like anything from UZIs to fighter jets to Suzuki triples. And of course, anything audio related. I was always in awe of his recall and his never ending quest to make good things great. I don’t think I ever had a conversation on the phone with him that lasted less than two hours and didn’t cover at least thirty topics. He was a very generous man and a man capable of serious thought. I want to think he’s up in heaven tinkering on projects to his big heart’s content. So long Dennis.

  40. 06/13/2018 @ almost exactly 2400 kicked the R-S7000 off with the KB15s about 24" from my nose. Strictly random selection from playlist was Traffic's live version of "40,000 Headmen". That was a kind nudge from God because in 1972 I was at the Santa Monica, CA Civic Center when Traffic played that song live. I loved it then and I love it now and this rig makes it sound better now than my memory of the original. Now comes the Eagles with Desperado and while I never saw them live it is like I have them live right here, right now. I am now fulfilled. This rig is right and the music natural and clear. The vocals are almost, almost too good. My only problem now is I will have to stay up all night listening to Stevie Nicks singing Rhiannon. God help me and thanks for the great advice guys.

  42. Extremely low distortion figures, a completely black floor, extremely high dampening factor, ability to leave on indefinitely (they don't draw more juice at idle 😵), extremely low heat generation, clean/clinical sound characteristics... There are many reasons to choose a class d amplifier.
    1 point
  43. There are benefits to class D, namely high efficiency, which also means less heat generation when pushed hard (although they tend to idle hotter than a standard ab amp). They can be built to produce huge amounts of continuous power, but peak is not usually much higher, vs ab amps which can usually double their peak output! The best designed, best sounding class D amps rival the sound quality of a standard class a/b amplifier design, but less $ means less quality sound, and most cheaper units aren't built to produce the huge amount of power that makes class D really worth while. The only reason I would think you would "need" class D is either the need to keep AC draw to a minimum, an amp that can run with little venting, or if you need larger scale power (like 1200+ watts rms) without carrying around a couple hundred pounds of heat sink, transformer, and caps inside its huge chassis! (Hardly a need for that in home theater!) Otherwise don't waste your time needing to find a class D powered system!

  44. The *first* thing you should do is toe them in (rotate them so they aim at the listening position). Considering how close together they are I would say around 25-30 degrees each, depending on how far away the listening position is (the closer you sit, the more toe-in you need). The soundstage will gel much more than with them firing straight ahead as shown in your photo. Then sit back and enjoy them. After a while you can start tweaking your setup to get the most out of them, but some toe-in should be #1 on your list (and it's free!). They look really nice, congratulations! I've owned Cornwalls since 1980 and have listened to thousands of recordings on mine. I now use them as monitors in my recording studio. I know them so well and trust them so much, they instantly tell me what I'm putting onto my recordings, and they're so accurate they allow me to create recordings that sound good when played on just about any other type of system or speaker. That's about the highest recommendation I can give to a speaker.
