  5. Finish my garage. Get a new vehicle for the wife. Overhaul my LSI's. Continue the rat race. Exercise a little more and drink a little less. Don't want to go to extremes with either of those though.

  22. Hello! I had a set of Chorus II in a room size similar to yours but not quite as deep. 24 x 24 with a 16 foot vaulted ceiling. They did very nice and will probably sound real good with your Sansui. I now have some Klipschorns in the same spot and they are definitely a notch (or two) up. The bass, presence, and dynamics are superior to the Chorus II in my opinion. The horns are physically higher off the floor and it makes a difference in filling a large space Plus you will have more amplifier flexibility with the Klipschorns - from SS to low power tube. Chorus tend to like more power. I have tried several amplifiers with my Klipschorns and they all sound good Having had both I would get the Klipschorns in a minute if you have the budget, I don't think you will be sorry. Hope that helps.

  26. Just ran across this topic. The Full Marty subs are excellent. I built four of them. They are still in my room. I modified the process a bit and placed the driver on the end of the cabinet. However, they are BIG and they are Heavy! I built mine with 18mm baltic birch. Flat packs would be great for anyone who does not care to do a build. BTW, if LTD02 is the same as from the AVS forum, he was awesome to work with. He helped me with my project and my modifications back when I built mine. Very responsive and really helpful. Has the heart of a Klipsch fan! Hopefully he will make his business a success. Great guy from my experience. For those interested in the Full Marty I built, I am including pictures of what I did and a response graph while testing various slot lengths. LTD02 helped me quite a bit with the proper tuning since I changed the driver location. Reason for changing the orientation had to do with my room. Currently, they are spread out in the room to prevent nasty room modes and they are oriented vertically, with the driver aimed at the ceiling, placing the driver up in mid air. All my testing and Audyssey Pro confirm a nice flat response and they put out tons of BASS! The room 'side' picture shows two of the subs in their current vertical position.

  27. I am not sure how many were made. If you are interested contact Cory at @MetropolisLakeOutfitters as he was the one I got mine from and I do recommend him - no affiliation. except as a customer and I met him at several Klipsch Pilgrimages. I have had two days with it now and will say it is amazing. I was having bass issues with my Jubilees and this more than cured it. My wife commented on how much of the lower octave was missing when we muted the 1502 - clearly hearing the lower notes of a stand-up bass with the proper tone and the kick drum now kicks. The 1502's affect is clean notes at low volumes and jaw dropping power when given 1000+ watts to work with. Sort of a "Tim the Tool Man" approach.

  28. While I think it is easy enough to be self taught to solder to the point of assembling a TU-8200, but starting with the amp is not the way to go. 1) The Elenco Practical Soldering Kit is a great first introduction to soldering. It got my then 7 year-old son soldering to the point of "pretty good". I was impressed. Once you do that - do another couple kits. You should be pretty good at soldering circuit boards at that point. 2) Get a reasonable iron - temperature controlled. You don't need anything amazing, the YiHUA-936B is a reasonable choice for 25USD. I used one to assemble my TU-8200, but you really need a temperature controlled iron as some of the heat sinks require a good amount of heat to flow solder. You'll probably want to get a handful of extra tips too - can't hurt. 3) Here's the kicker - you're going to outlay at least 100 Euros on practice kits, iron, solder, parts, magnifier glasses, tip cleaner, etc. Don't look at DIY as a way to save money on the first amp. Mainly because having built a TU-8200DX and done some mods I'm pretty close to taking on a TU-8600. I really enjoyed building, but I had prior soldering experience doing repairs of electronic musical instruments and working in a structural laboratory a while back. I considered the building half the fun of the amp, and the amp is no slouch. 4) Just as an aside, the RP-160 is about the lowest class of speaker I'd consider the TU-8200 and its variants on - I've run my RB-51II off it, and while a nice sound, the quality of the amplifier is held back by the inefficiency of the speakers. I really enjoy the Elekit with my Heresy III speakers for what it is worth.

  29. Great Plains Audio is staffed with people from the old Altec company. They bought a lot of the old production setup and do re-coning to the original specs. I was quoted I think $115 to get some 15" woofers done + shipping both ways. I would think they could do duplexes to so give them a shout. I don't see a way for you to ever get those back into proper shape and would not even try. So Facebook uses a subset of the English language as a rule? Never joined and not seeing any incentive to do so and feed the Zuckerberg privacy invasion machine.

  30. Thanks, Y'all: Bruce, I really like what you have done, and want to do something similar, but please let me ask you why you choose the APT-150? Did the original tweeter get blown? I can see that the 150 would not perhaps fit inside the cab. Do you like the sound of the 150? Do you know if the driver has external threads? I'm intrigued with the MAHL, but will go slow and listen to the recommendations. Btw., we just watched the movie Alice in Wonderland, which does inspire you to be bold and do impossible things!!

  38. When I picked up my 1964 KHorn from a retired Lutheran minister in Kansas City fifteen years ago, one of the stories he and his elderly wife regaled me with was how PWK personally delivered his mono KHorn to a very small farm town in northern Iowa by plane. Pwk gave him him instructions to find a level field, position a tractor at one end of the field with the lights on, and he would do the rest. With the help of a couple neighbors, they transferred the boxes to a horse drawn hay cart, and took off for the parsonage. Paul even spent time setting it up in the living room, and 35 years later the minister had nothing but glowing admiration for an Episcopalian!

  40. @dirtmudd Agreed on that 80's garbage! Just sat down wondering the thoughts you guys had on the Floyd LP's. So I guess the 3 of you get them and I don't. Sounds fair! I just thought it totally insane that one LP would bring that kind of money. Clueless as to what the other two on Tower label are worth. I just re-checked the Columbia and it's EMI and UK. I'm actually wondering what it sounds like now. lol Nope, not gonna look but for some reason they're the way they are from LONG ago. That's the crazy nutso thing w/my LP's. I know what I have but the rest of it's like Xmas at times. Spent a couple hours driving today to pick up a Technics system I purchased at auction... $17.25 and paired it all w/a pair of Technics speakers I picked up this fall at the same dude's online auction for $16.50. Going out in the garage mainly cause it wouldn't be right to subject anything good to the crazy yearly temp swings in Ohio. Sell it? Sure for about $500... 😂 😂 😎 Thought about where and how I got those Floyd LP's the entire time. Musta been that purple microdot I got from you @JohnJ

Not the duo, but the model name has slipped my mind. GLWS. Been quite the journey for you. Always trying something new. I understand that.
