  1. I may have posted here before but search didn't get any hits... Anyways, you guys have some awesome dedicated rooms. If and when I ever move, a dedicated theater room will be a priority. My living room serves me well for now however as my multi purpose media room. Belle's for 2 channel system and a reference series setup for movies and tv.......

  3. A gentleman and lady who have been dating for quite a while were out to dinner one evening. The gentleman, is considering asking her to marry him but like all guys is wondering what her views on sex are before he pops the question. So, he asks her “How often do you like sex?” She says “infrequently”. The gentleman ponders for a moment then leans over closer to her ear and says “Is that one word, or two?” (courtesy the late great Jerry Lewis)

  4. Heres a pic from the "dj booth". Just making sure all formats sound good. The preamp is an Alpha Recording System 4 channel rotary mixer made in Japan. One of the best sounding dj mixers possibly ever made. Using Ortofon 2M red cartridges for now.

  5. Just thought I would share. I have always heard/read that the Klipsch Heritage series is a step above the reference series. I just got a Forte II in fabulous shape, they sound amazing, and I did a very simple comparison with my RF-83s. Tried with same cables, sub on AND off, same front end, and standing side by side, as shown in the picture. Without going in too deep into it, the RF-83, in my listening room with my equipment, were just better. It was not subtle either, it was noticeable even to my wife. The sound of the RF83s was bigger, more depth, clearer imaging, bigger soundstage, extended lower and was all around more enjoyable. The mid range in the Forte II was great, but it was missing so many other things that what it DID do better was clouded by what it was missing. Both of them are fabulous speakers, but comparing them side by side, I am keeping the 83s. The sound from the 83, with my setup, the music just seems to float and completely separate from the speakers, they completely disappear. The Forte II did this too, but not as noticeable. Granted, I have been living with my RF83 for a while now, I just love the sound, and I have 2 days with the Forte II only. Could this influence?? What am I missing?? My experience is the same as Youthman, Michael Stevens, with the Forte III vs the RF-7 III. Can't wait to do this same comparison with a pair of La Scalas!!!

  6. Like spring here now @billybob no rain for three or so days...a record for the last year! Definitely enjoying the new phono preamp... the previous was not lacking but this one has a discernible affect on the cart.... I cannot leave one speck of dust on the LP or I'll hear it! Specks (specs) aside it is promising After the chores today _ BBQ chicken, slaw, grn beans and potatoes. Having to stay away from the hockey game with hopes they stomp the flamers today. So the preamp is not broken in yet but it is sounding good already. Left Bowie's "Sound & Vision" behind, came to these cool kids from down south doing "Sound & Color" plus more that I really dig and, and, an... Aw H@ll It's just really Groovy! The innovative spaced out Bowie-esque vocal sounds and the depth of sound on this record were made for what my rig excels at!!

  7. Fellow RF-83 owner here, your conclusions don't surprise me. The RF-83's are one of the most pleasant well balanced speakers I've heard. I've owned La Scala's and Khorns and I don't miss needing to upgrade the crossover, swap out the tweeter, or find a different mid-horn compression driver. In stock form the RF-83 just flat works.

  10. Appreciate that man. When I saw a bunch of posts in a thread about potentiometers I think pics of some 70s receivers in stainless with big VU meters taking up the real estate made me think. So I got this pre to match the tt and the F3s! Since our stupida%& coach let our great players stink up the sb in 2015... Then the commish lambasted the Cowboys for black armbands to honor the cops killed by the terrorists in Dallas at the end of that summer.. #'em all! C'mon XFL!!

  12. I used a silicone product made for brake components on vehicles...it was recommended for use on Corvette door rubber (or any other vehicle) and as I recall it was only applied once in 12 years on the Corvette never needing to be reapplied...I used it sparingly on the surrounds of my kg2s several years ago and it also has not needed to be reapplied since... my kg2s are used daily in a small television/home theater setting...(my normal television watching instead of using the speakers on the flat screen) good luck with your choice. 17. It states that they'll ship outside the 'conus' but to contact for shipping quote prior to checkout. I've been burned before with outrageous additional shipping charges from other sellers. I simply ask that they deduct whatever shipping charge they are including in the sale price from the actual shipping cost to my location. However they often just add the total shipping cost to the total sale price. Don't want to pay more for shipping than the speakers cost.

  21. Picked up a pair of Klipsch Epic CF-3 v1 today. Issues with the bass on one, but got a great deal. Now I need to do a little investigation into the crossovers determined it was a woofer shorted out. Plus, they were only 10 minutes from my house.

  23. To quote Frank Gifford about his wife, Kathie Lee Gifford, who came under media attack about her clothing line that was, allegedly, made in countries with child labor right after the OJ Simpson Trial: "America will let someone get away with murder, but they won't let anyone get away with SUCCESS. Klipsch is one of the largest, if not THE largest speaker company in the world. It got that way AFTER he sold it to FRED, who took it from about $25 Million a year gross annual sales to $175 Million Gross Annual Sales, or about 7 X bigger and create a huge, beautiful headquarters in Indianapolis. PWK's principles were never violated in the process. I lived in Indy for a few years, have been to both Indy and Hope and can attest to the fact that this clown character is totally WRONG. This is the polite version of my comments.

  27. Finally, after a year with my 1988 LaScala, I replaced the AL type crossovers with a constant impedance set. I took good care to simulate and then measure the results and i am now an happy camper :-) I decided that a fix L Pad will be my preferred way to attenuate the mid range. The original attenuation was 6 DB, but in order to make them more lively, I opted for a 4 DB pad. What are your preferred attenuation? Dan

  29. Your findings do not surprise me at all. I had a pair of Fortes standing right beside my RF-63s for a few years and the 63's are still standing. Truthfully I loved them both but something was different/special about the RF-63s that the Fortes did not quite have. Was it the smoothness and seamless transition from lows to mids to highs? Was it the tight fast punchy bass? Was it the spot on imaging? Maybe it was all of the above. Bill

  30. Yeah i'd get the RC-62II if possible. The new ones will work well enough but they are more laid back, the reference 2's are brighter and you'll be able to tell the difference in this especially at higher volumes if you mix and match.

  35. @Clinton, Welcome to the forum. First let me say, you don't need to spend 2K to 3K on a quality amplifier. As a matter of fact, you don't need to spend 1K on one to reach your goal, especially if you are willing to go the used route. Many 200w/ch+ quality amps can be found from $1000.00 to $1500.00. Just a few examples of well built quality used stereo amps. https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9a8ie-acurus-a-2002-solid-state https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9b7eg-b-k-reference-200-2-stereo-power-amplifier-16463-solid-state https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9bg6c-anthem-statement-a2-amp-solid-state https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9b838-aragon-4004-mk-ii-stereo-power-amplifier-mark-2-240v-16491-solid-state https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9ba64-adcom-gfa-565se-solid-state Bill

  36. Sounds to me like you need a major Class D Crown to satisfy your perceived need for power. XLS class D will work. Crowns drove the amps at Pilgrimage that generated the "pissn' off the neighbors" award with a complaint from a mile and a half. As a K'horn owner who fears for his ear, knick knacks, windows and such with a 40w amp I can't quite understand your issue...but it's metaphysically absurd to assume I know what you hear. What I CAN do is make the above nuclear power option that I know are good, clean watts that are well below what you are willing to spend. And, while not tubes, they have more tube-line qualities than SS at a fraction of the cost and power consumption. Anyway, keep looking...it's what we do...until we get K'horns. Dave

  38. I had an RC-52 with RF-52II . I currently have a RC-62 II with another system. The 62 is a fuller sound, one of the hidden gems of Klipsch. I just looked, and there are new ones out there. Search for “Klipsch RC-62 II” on amazon and eBay. $250-285. They’ve been discontinued, but there are new one out there. I bought mine from Fry’s about 8 months ago.

I’m in Denver and there is too much money here (unfortunately not mine)... this makes deals so rare, unfortunately Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  40. There's an old saying: "A closed mouth gathers no feet." This guy clearly even left the shoe and sock on. As a writer who has published over 150 technical articles in Electronics and Photography, I did my homework before I fired up the keyboard. Also, I check my facts and edit for clarity before I hit the SEND button to my publisher. He should have done the same.

  43. I've tried bi-amping and even tri-amping my K-Horns, but I was never satisfied with the sound. It's too hard to get the separate amps to blend in smoothly.Maybe try attenuating the mids/highs instead if you want more pronounced bass.

  48. You just might be right! These amps don't get mentioned much anymore. I think it is primarily because there were very few made. But make no mistake, these are some of the best amplifiers out there. I have a pair and they may be the best sounding amps I've ever owned. I've actually thought to myself in the past, if my house caught on fire, what would be the list of things I'd try to take with me and these amps made that short list. However, I've had to rethink that because they are not easily carried and are not close to an exit door. I can't remember the exact power output, but it is either 20 or 25 WPC -- way more than enough power to run our efficient speakers. pCAT stands for Pure Class-A Triode. When Mark designed these amps, the goal was to have a mid-range that would match SET but with a bit more power. Having owned SET amps, I think his goal was met. I recall several years ago several forum members gathered somewhere in the Bay Area to compare amplifiers. The consensus seemed to be that the best sounding amps were a close call between the pCATs and Welborne Labs Moondogs (3.5 wpc SET). Those results should be posted somewhere on this forum. I would be buying these amps if I didn't already have a pair and let me say that I haven't completely ruled that out but I do need to resist the temptation. Whoever buys these amps is going to be very, very happy.
