  3. Recently picked up an Roku Ultra to replace the Roku 3 that I had. The jump in image quality is quite noticeable and impressive. This is a screen shot from the couch off of a youtube vid. My projector is still an 1080p model, but still throws a nice image, about 98" diagonal in this pic.

  4. Thank you for postin g about JJ Cale here. For some reason, he was never on my radar. Now it is an instant like! And JJ Cale sounds soooo great on my 1972 Heresies. Can't be a coincidence!!!!!!!!

  5. As a teen, I was a fan of Dire Straits and Knopfler's solo projects (mostly movie scores). I have most of his albums on vinyl and recently I bought all the dire straits albums on CD (they are dirt cheap now...) Mark Knopfler has aged well and he's a great guy. He still posts some interesting videos on you*ube and he is still recording. He does is for the love of music and not for the money (he's filthy rich, or should be...) This is one of my heroes (like Van Morrison), and when they speak, I shut up and listen! And here's Eric Clapton and JJ Cale on guitars.... ... And now I understand why someone above said JJ Cale is the 'mentor' of Mark Knopler. Just watch this. This solo is soooooo Knopfler (it's the other way round, I know...)

  8. JJ Cale wrote so many made famous by others. We probably all heard lots of them fifty years ago without even knowing that. That was the case with me until reading Clapton's liner notes.

  16. I had a few emails with Dave in the early part of this year. I felt like be had slipped his anchor and not able to set a proper course. I'll miss him, for sure, and prayers will be lifted up to the one he knew, for him and all his family. I'm having a hard time with this. 😥

  18. SOLD A pair of Forte 2's that are getting lonely and need new owners. They sure aren't perfect cosmetically but sound great. Small bottle ring on top of one and another was missing a badge when I bought them. Replaced it with Ebay badge but they don't match up with each other very well. I'm afraid to try to remove either badge for fear of pulling the cloth loose under them. I have the other Ebay badge. I'm thinking $600 for the pair. I'm in NW Missouri. Thanks for looking.SOLD!

  22. I have a Puffin and I love it. Besides being very flexible with my different turntables and their respective cartridges the ability to dial in so many parameters is amazing. From air and tilt to balance and bass and treble to Clean. Most of my vinyl is in pretty good shape after over 40 years of listening but the Clean function makes them sound like brand new pristine vinyl. Almost no ticks or pops but no degradation or compression of highs. The Puffin makes the performance of my old Duall 1229 and old Technics 1200 MKii sound like much higher end turntables.

  29. The only person in the house that will hear what he’s measuring is the dog. Also, the only iron core in this group is the one made by UT, everything else is steel laminate. I won’t use the small Erse or the Sledgehammer from Madisound. The laminated plates slide out with vibration. Don’t believe me, just grab them and tap them on the table. I got a pair of Chorus II nets that Crites had built, and some of plates had slid a quarter of the way out of the thing. The best coils are dipped in wax or varnish so there is no air between the windings, and so they don’t move against each or on the core. Coils are measured on the board/in-network, and the values massaged until you get the desired results. If you did your job right - mutual inductance is part of the design, and moving them apart changes the response.

  31. Those look like 1980s models, with their early style first generation La Scala cabinets and their AL crossovers. They are NOT 2020-2021 AL5s. Maybe the seller thought that the crossover designation referred to the model number. Maybe.

  40. there is NO WAY a Cornwall with 15" bass drivers should be lacking ANY bass... regardless of where you place it, how you orient it and with what it's being driven. that being said, if your Denafrips has filter sets, that is where I would start... then I would be interested in what kind of dampening that Amplifier has and if the room might have TO MUCH absorption. Interconnects aren't going to help you with LF.

  41. I listen to at least a little bit of just about everything. I have tons of classical vinyl, though I don't listen to it all that often (they are just sooo cheap at used record shops). I listen to everything from old-school American Blues, Jazz, Gospel, Bluegrass, Old-Time, Big-bands, Ballet, Opera, classic Country, Hip Hop, Rap, Techno, Electronica.... you name it. Catch me in the right mood and you may hear anything from Tchaikovsky to Wu-Tang Clan. My favorite, however, and the bulk of my collection is centered around classic Rock and Roll and all of the sub-genres that orbit it (British Blues, Prog Rock, New Wave, Jam Bands, Pop). I'd have to say my favorite group of all time is Pink Floyd, which I feel is certainly a part of why I love Hi Fi so much. You can't be a PF fan and not want to hear it at its very best. I think they are one of the relatively few rock bands whose recordings sound REALLY good on a quality Hi Fi setup. Getting a better "Dark Side of the Moon" experience has definitely been the driver of many of my audiophile pursuits, haha.

  42. Ha! You guys are killing me with all of this chili, non-chili, sloppers, and whatever else that's been posted here. I'll be taking succinct notes in Hope, I hope! Only thing I've got going for me, besides a craving for this, is the fact I did notice @Mallette had a photo darkroom timer sitting there in one of the pics! THAT I have! lolol
