    • Weekend bump to get it sold. I need to move it. Make an offer and I'll cover shipping. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
    • Not trying to cause waves here but I spent and entire evening with my friend comparing a McIntosh MHA100 headphone amp to a Primaluna Evo400 on a pair of Heresy IV. See my video below. The MHA100 is just 50 watts a channel and is not even a dedicated speaker amp and even so, was really challenging comparing the two so I'm having a hard time taking in the idea that the differences between an MA252 and Primaluna Evo400 are night and day apart considering that the MA252 is even more suited for floor standing speakers like our Heresy IV's in this video. A lot of this audio stuff gets pretty blown out of proportion IMO. MA252 has twice the power than this little headphone amp, a tube preamp! and tone controls. What am I missing here?
    • Thanks for your good wishes, and your positive intent.  Appreciated.  Since my Mentor is known to produce world class equipment, over several decades now,  to good mention, I tend to follow him.   Realize also please, I've never seen nor heard your audio work.
    • Yes, but.....   I did it with a 500 hz 2-way passive crossover and my La Scalas and a 902 (that has better HF output).  Khorns will not quite get to 500 hz and the 802/902 driver needs a very steep crossover to safely run at 500 hz.  12 dB/Oct was not enough.    AND, the sound was not substantially different.  While the Altec gear is excellent, especially in the middle, so is the K-55/K-400.  I think the Altec HF was the 2-way system Mr. Paul referenced in his AES paper on the La Scalas.
    • I think that all bands have their own dynamic in their musical development. At some point they reach their climax in perfection. Afterwards they realize that it doesn't go on and every member is searching for his own musical realization. There are numerous examples of this, such as Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, etc.
    • I do things differently than you and other fellows do .    The last amp I built, the 2019 KT88 DC amp, had 8 AWG m22759/11 wire for its ground bus, and certain ground returns.  That 8 AWG is 133 strands of wire.  We four guys all clearly heard that result in Montana.   I loved it .  That 2019 effort easily set brand new audio performance standards, to my ears, as far as being able to render dynamic contrasting.  "High dynamic definition " I termed it.   Yes, I really liked it a lot fellas.   None of us in audio....... had ever heard that ..........before !!     That particular power amp used GTO film caps, to the KT88s, caps capable of doing 1,500 AMPERES Peak Instantaneous.    This preamp, breaks with tradition in its build, hopefully to get similar dynamic contrasting results as the 2019 amplifier's build !!    I really won't know the preamp result fellas, .............until its up and running .   I have my own vision with this design.  After hearing that particular KT88 amp, this preamp is certainly NOT destined, to be another " me too " typical tube phono preamp guys !!    Jeff
    • When soldering guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have soldering guns.   It’s a toss up between using a Bernz-O-Matic or a soldering gun for that delicate surface mount soldering of IC chips or capacitors.  Any tyro can get good results from a 35 watt pencil iron.  It takes a special talent to get blobs of solder using a torch.
    • That’s how it should be  It’s the reason we have so many styles and genres of music to satisfy everyone’s taste 🤘
    • I'm in the not category.
