  1. The beans I have purchased in Costa Rica are not old. The biggest deal with them is they pack an amazing caffeine punch. The best are the dark chocolate covered beans, you don't even have to brew them.

  2. Well, I brought them home today! Haven’t had much of a chance to listen but, what I’ve heard, I am very impressed. Amp is a restored Marantz 1060 integrated. I will admit, I have panned this speaker in the past due to prior experience with them. That was about ten years ago and I still have visions of wood clamps and cleaning out copper pieces out of the tweeter magnet gap. I did like the sound once I got them fixed but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Looking forward to giving them a second chance. Here’s a picture of one next to a CF-3 v1.

  4. Sure I get that but if it sounds good using a recorded movie but doesn’t when using the TV shouldn’t the problem be the source and not the equipment??? I mean if it’s the equipment that is the issue it should sound just as bad in a DVD or Blu-Ray I’ve e also noticed some HD channels are only broadcasting 2.0 while others are probably a lower Dolby Digital rather than my preferred DTS Bill

  5. The problem can be the receiver, and I'm sure that is a limit of the system, but if your more satisfied with other sources, then you "should" get similar results from the dtv broadcasts. Here's some things to look for/consider: 1) digital output is set to digital surround, not 2ch (you said you checked this already...) 2) dynamic range limiter (may be called drc or something) turn this off of its on... this is supposed to allow you to listen at lower volumes and still hear subtle details in the program (by making less difference between low and loud parts of the program), and is also used to limit volume of commercials that are mixed higher than the regular program- but by limiting dynamic range things won't sound as open and big as they were originally recorded.. 3) make sure your watching an HD broadcast- many times non-HD broadcast channels will have audio that is only 2ch, and/or actually re-encoded from an analog 2-ch signal, and will definitely have sub-par quality to pee digital sources. The digital cable provider (whether att, xfinity, directv, or other...) should not be messing with the audio. They may re-encode the video to preserve bandwidth, but the audio doesn't take much bandwidth in comparison and should just be passed through... so if there's poor quality it will be originating at either the studio and/or the source of the content they are playing.

  8. I'm not an expert on Yamaha AVR's but I have owned one. I thought it was just OK and I did sell it because I thought it sounded kinda flat and dull. Right now I use a Denon and to me, it sounds Much Better than a Yamaha. My Denon sounds more dynamic and lively compared to my Yamaha. I bought my Denon at Accessories 4 Less so I didn't pay a ton of money. Different brands do sound different.

  9. Going from one yamaha receiver to another one is not going to improve your sound. That's like asking to be moved from Cell Block A to Cell Block C in hopes of better living conditions......... Think tubes. Or at the very minimum, a high quality SS amp, if that's yer thing....... Shakey

  11. Dave1290 and I seem to be in parallel universes. And it sounds good! Heresy’s hooked me decades ago. Had Heresy 1’s and 2’s, prefer the 2’s... sold ‘em all years ago. In the last year LaScalas have ruined me for most other speakers. A few weeks ago I sold my LaScalas to make room to refurb a pair of LSI Splits I found in need of some TLC. Almost as soon as I sold them a pair of Heresy 2’s came up for $300 bucks, not nearly as nice as the ones listed above, but I pulled the trigger on them. I still own Cornwalls, Chorus IIs and Tangent 5000s for comparison. Honestly, the Heresy 2’s (2nd pair I have owned) and a tight sub are nothing to sneeze at. Elevated to ear level, in my case about three feet off the ground, they are as revealing as any Klipsch I have owned. And you can move them around easily! Easy to share, lol. And as mentioned above, you can ALWAYS sell them for what you paid. The cat is out of the bag on the Klipsch gateway drug known as Heresy! I don’t think you can go wrong with those Heresy II’s.

  12. Man. This is terribly sad news. I was an engineer at Rockwell when Dennis was hired. I knew him from the Audio Room in the 1970s and ‘80s. He was very knowledgeable about everything he found interesting. Like anything from UZIs to fighter jets to Suzuki triples. And of course, anything audio related. I was always in awe of his recall and his never ending quest to make good things great. I don’t think I ever had a conversation on the phone with him that lasted less than two hours and didn’t cover at least thirty topics. He was a very generous man and a man capable of serious thought. I want to think he’s up in heaven tinkering on projects to his big heart’s content. So long Dennis.

  13. What he said... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ New risers from Crites for $50 and eliminate the stands... Check them out before you load them up and you'll enjoy the sound. I picked up a pair and it's kinda fun going from the LS to the Heresy just for a different sound. Price is fair also imo but what do I know it's your $$$... lolol

  14. To be honest, in my application the heresys will probably not need at sub at all. I am that impressed by them. My mind is blown literally. Numbers on paper, I don't care what they say, incredible.

  15. Aren't we all? You have to sell older stuff to get newer stuff. At least I do. I don't know Mr. WestCoastDrums personally except on the forums, but I judge his motives to be pure. He's OK.

No actual reviews of Heritage though: - La Scala II semi reviewed by Sam T - Made recommended components restricted lf class A - Palladium P-39 reviewed and loved- Made recommended components restricted lf Class A - Palladium P-17b reviewed and loved - Made recommended components restricted lf class A Seems focus is on newer style speakers but Klipsch had made a presence. Not a terrible showing.

  21. So, these are up for sale near me. As are Horns, Scala's, Chorus, etc.. But, I'm a budget limited gent. So, these came up, look to be in very good condition, but am wondering if I should entertain them as my mains. I've said before, a few times, my mains now are 5.5's. I just want to get towards a taste of the 3-way horn sound. What prefaces this is that I got to spend some time with another forum member earlier this week that has custom Jub's L & R, Horns for his rear channels, yes, I said Horns for his rear channels, and a Belle center, oh, and an 8' tall sub in the LF corner. He had 3 racks of audio pleasantries with SS, tubes, vinyl, analog, passive, electronic, just about every combo you could come up with. It was awesome to say the least, never reaching above 78 db. Anyway, curious as to what others would think the Heresy's would be in place of the 5.5's, slanted risers (would have to make, or purchase). I want a taste, understood a small one at that, of the tonal dynamics that I experienced. Worth a look, or should I just keep saving? Thanks. Asking price is $400.

  22. nice SWL ,had to get some xls 2502 to wake up those beasts ,i did look in the k2 s no fan but so pricey ...i went class d with the new xls all black and can change sensitivity to 0.75 v , turn off all lights too . had emotiva ,parasound and carver b4 , they all sound great but the crowns hold on to those woofer and really control everything like nothing else that is why i went the po amps way a long time ago 20 years as $ per watt is much cheaper

  25. I see you only have one HDMI in and 1 out--SO the AVR has to be connected to the TV with RCA cables---do you have this done properly?

  26. TV sound Should be comparable to a DVD. It must be how you have it hooked up. Is your cable box or whatever you use, plugged directly into your AVR?

  28. Anyone out there into 78 RPM records? I have two albums where the 78s are in sleeves sort of like a photo album. Guessing 20 or more discs. If there is interest I'll get you some titles/pix. I had a great uncle that lived in Hartford City Indiana that was an amazing guy. Armature geologist, budding scientist, all around tinkering kind of guy. Some of my earliest memories are of him playing records for my family when we would visit. Groan , me and my sisters just wanted to watch TV. From what I recall his audio equipment was ancient by my standards in the late 60s early 70s. I bet there was some cool tube gear if I had only known. I would also guess he built some of it. No idea what happened to that. Him and his wife are long gone; my parents aren't too far behind, I fear, so I got the "records" about 10 years ago when things were being cleaned out. After all I was the only one that still had anything remotely resembling a record player. Never mind there is no 78 setting on mine. I really just want them gone, but can't bare to throw them away. Yours for the price of shipping if you want them. No idea if they are valuable or not. Tell me what to look for and I'll give you what info I can.

  30. I have only one system and it is used for everything. I get my TV from the fiber system we have and I can't say I notice any difference in sound from the STB or DVD. DVD-A and Blu-ray often sounds better.

Should be interesting to hear her take. I've got the granddog til Monday. So it's trips to the dog park, neighbor kids playing ball w/her and a vet run tomorrow for the once over w/shot updates and the normal stuff. Here we go! So much for my bank account! lol 😎

  39. While I might agree with your dealer if we were discussing the entry-level lines from Denon Marantz Onkyo, etc but if you're looking at the flagship from those brands that's a different story. I've been using top-tier receivers from Yamaha & Denon since the late 90's (anyone remember the Yamaha DSP-A1?) and have been impressed with the build quality, sound quality and features list with each of them. I still have an old Denon 4802R that isn't being used but I'm reluctant to dump it because no current receiver under $1,500 can touch its sound quality. Someday I'll setup a second home theater in the house or give it to my son when he moves out.... Ask your dealer how long he'll let you compare the ones he's pushing to your current setup in your home. If he really wants a sale, there should be a reasonable return period offered.

  40. From the not so clear photos they look to be in good shape and IMO worth the $400.00 asking price provided functionality is as it should be. Can't say anything in comparison to the 5.5 because I have never heard them but do immensely enjoy my Heresy 1's and 2's. Bill

  45. Phantom center configurations are underrated. I think that's because salespeople and the companies producing processor chips keep drilling it into people that you somehow will get inferior sound without a dedicated dialogue channel, while it can cause timing issues if you have them too close together - from experience. Comb filtering is another issue I've wondered about in tight-fit setups. Good thoughts!

  47. Not to go too far off topic but I have to say THANK YOU for actually putting a grill over your drivers on your boombox. 99% of the boombox builds I see on the internet including very expensive ones have exposed drivers with no protection. Its a boombox, which means its going to be thrown in your trunk at some point and exposed woofers are just waiting to be punctured. Nice, clean build btw.

  48. I enjoy the opposite scenario. Rather than trying to justify an extravagant cost, I like to impress my friends with high quality sound from minimalist systems. The best example of that was at a gathering of old (redundant) friends from college at a friend’s house, where Bose 901s were used for TV sound. I brought a pair of single driver Karlson slot enclosures made of foam board using a plastic framed 3” driver that cost less than $5. The photo shows it before the final side was hot-glued in place. The sound was good by my standards, but amazing by their standards. To maximize the impact, I would power the speakers with one of my several class D chip amps powered by batteries. I would play the same driver in free air then play it in the foam core enclosure. Obviously, the difference was startling. One friend said, “It’s like turning water into wine.” Another friend was chagrined to acknowledge the system sounded better than his expensive stereo. We sometimes forget that even Heresys are large speakers by the standards of most. We also tend to forget that most people who enjoy music do so without speakers that are large or expensive. One of my most successful DIY projects is the boombox shown. The drivers are Radio Shack 40-1197 (made by Fostex), the amp is a SURE TPA3110 class D, and powered by a SLA 12v alarm system battery. I’ll often enjoy music from that unit while outside building tapped horn subs, or refurbishing La Scalas. The sound from that bass reflex (a single rear port shared by both channels) enclosure is very good. The diminishing return factor demands much larger speakers and much more money spent to gain a small advantage in the ability to enjoy the music. The last photo shows a TPA3118 “Wiener” class D board powered by 8 AA batteries.
