  1. Nothing much, put off smoking 4 pork butts until tomorrow I guess, didn't feel like it today, stayed up way to late last night. They say a high of 930 today, OK 93 but it feels like 930 in the sun. Might cut some grass later, it has a roof so I will be in shade, maby ?

  6. There are a lot of people who are sensitive to the resonant mode of ti diaphragms. When they were first introduced by JBL decades ago many pro's flat out refused to use them. Fortunately I am not one of those people. If you have listened to any of the RF series (almost all are ti horn drivers) and you liked them then you can safely cross yourself off of the list of ti diaphragms being a problem. All the new Klipsch use ti skins and all the pro units are ti. The ti diaphragms will take your speakers way beyond what the old stock phenolic are capable of. Most of all the mid is where the magic is. You may want to adjust mid output levels a little but so what? If you are not willing to do that then you need to accept the level of performance available from the stock units. There's nothing wrong with staying with the phenolic diaphragms if you want to. There are mods that can make stock drives sound better but why not make the jump into the 21 century? Remember that there are lots of people out there offering you advice who cannot hear their way out of a wet paper bag with their Pioneer or Denon AV receivers and garbage sources. This is really old crap people are discussing when some of the best engineers in the business worked all this stuff out decades back and new people with no clue start it all back up and never bother to read up on any of this. The Engineering staff at Klipsch have figured out how to mostly mitigate ti issues as have all the other big boys in the pool but like I said if you have very sensitive hearing in the 8.5 KHz. range then ti drive diaphragms may not be your best choice and you will want to switch to Aluminum or synthetic/plastic or coated diaphragm options or just stick with the stock diaphragms.

  7. Most of the time yes, very lucky. That usually ends when I try dumb things I know I shouldn't or push my luck and it bites me on the azz, but overall your right, feels like it anyway. just a little bump back to the top, I'm not going to try it but it is interesting and positively my favorite folded horn None of this would have happened if JC wouldn't have wanted to try the old MWM cabinet in the Anechoic chamber with the 402 horn that weekend in 2007, Thank You and for Roy being willing to do it, it surely changed our living room.

  10. Excellent point and absolutely is a mess. Once the item is entered into a program the business should be good to go, as they should know their own business and know what item goes into which tax category. Still, confusing and messy, as you say. Expanding on my earlier concern every business has to file quarterly estimated taxes, even if they don't have any sales to that state in a particular quarter. The problem is if you don't file your return with NO sales, the state(s) will STILL assess the business a penalty. Can you imagine how quick a mom and pop internet business can get in trouble if for some reason they don't file their quarterlies and get fined by FIFTY states?

  15. I have mostly avoided female Vocals and so am woefully out of my element. After recent acquisition of Jennifer Warrnes Famous Blue Raincoat I find myself wanting more female vocals of the same type quality. I often hear different folks here speak fondly of female vocals and so here I am asking whom you all think stands out in the crowd. I have some Adele, Patricia Barber, and Diana krall and while they are good I frankly feel like they pale in comparison. Could be I obviously have not heard a great recording by any of them Strange how ones musical tastes change over the years...................

  16. Around 1500 today I received a delivery notification from FedEx that my speakers had finally arrived. I was pretty deep in a gearbox inspection at a customer and had it all torn apart. Lucky me, during the NDT, I found three bad gears with cracked teeth. Sweet! No need to put it back together. Send info back to the shop, clean the area, and dash home. My wife sent me a text saying that my "stupid speakers were in my office". I get home, shower up, start a pot of chili, and then head upstairs to get everything swapped out. I tell ya, these are some pretty speakers! You look at the spec sheet dimensions and really don't realize that these are fairly sizable for their class. I am totally blown away. I've been through some of my favorites (In The Light, Tuesday's Gone, Simple Man, Bohemian Rhapsody, the Tron:Legacy soundtrack, all kinds of John Williams soundtrack pieces, Boston, Lamb Of God, Suicide Silence etc...) and so many songs are like listening to them for the first time. Instruments and sounds that I haven't noticed before. Several times I had to make sure I wasn't playing remixes because everything just sounded different. When I first started listening, I had a thought- Hmm, just a tad bit more bass. Went over to the sub to up the gain just a ***, and realized that the status light was out. WHAT?! In my rush to start listening, I forgot to move over the LFE cable from my old receiver. Ha! It kinda made me laugh. The speaker's bass output was just a hair under what I wanted it, and the sub wasn't even running. I enjoy good strong bass, and The Sixes nearly come through on their own. Yanked the screens grilles off...was NOT expecting that! They dampen the horns considerably. I was able to convince the wife to have a listen. Played a few of her favorite songs, and unprompted, she stated the same as my thoughts above. She was convinced that she was listening to covers of her favorites. It's good to know she "gets it"! I would have been very happy with The Sixes if I had paid the retail $800. Paying $479 through a NewEgg Flash deal from Worldwide? I don't think I've ever been more satisfied with a purchase. Not that I have a recent history of better quality audio, but if anyone has been on the shelf(lol) about these, I highly suggest them. You'll even with the ol' lady's OK.

  17. Nice set up, congrats! I'd look into getting the Crites mid drivers the A55-g's with new gaskets and a pair of his CT-120 tweeters, these upgrades while not cheap are worth every penny in my book and will really add to the detail you may be missing.

  19. That's a pretty big drooping down ramp starting at 2 kHz upwards. That's more than 10 dB of droop on the high end. If you're measuring on-axis at one metre, that droop should be limited to about 3 dB, not 10 dB. That's a wee bit too much "house curve". You're probably reacting to the fact that you've been listening to that big bass hump centered at 75 Hz. I'd recommend looking at the recordings that you've been playing. I would guess that they largely have bass attenuation. If you've got the equivalent of tone controls or upstream EQ, correct individual albums instead of cranking that into the loudspeakers all the time. You can do that using miniDSP, but I'd name those EQ curves on your PC so that you know that you're boosting lows and attenuating highs. If you find that you're using the boost and attenuation curves all the time, I strongly recommend demastering the albums that you're listening to--to remove the source of the problem at its source. It should sound great when the Cornwalls are playing absolutely flat. By the way, I recommend changing the vertical resolution of the REW plots until the vertical scale lines are no more than 5 dB increments, with 2 dB being preferred, i.e., Chris

  21. I can dig it. Heck, watchin' them sing Billy Jean with my wife on our 55" and then leading to other renditions and songs almost got me into trouble. Thank god we have a healthy relationship because she say's, "Nope. I would leave your ***," and on that we agreed. She then goes and does her thing as I shed a tear while I continued watching the video....{Note: I also catch her watching Civil War videos in the evening on her I-pad while I'm upstairs rockin' to U2. lol.}

  22. Nothing has ever been confirmed but that could be the reason they broke up as a duet. Obvious flirty banter between the two that could have caused some insecurities and temptations that neither spouses thought healthy for their marriages. It is a shame because Joy Williams and John Paul White were IMO a harmonic and song writing dynamo. Bill

  30. I heard the same differences also. A Good while back one of the daughters brought over a DVD movie, Burlesque, it sounded good, probably 6 months later another one brought the Blu-ray of the same movie. The difference was shocking, the sound was amazing, not even close to the DVD. Cool movie for music.

  34. OK; no clue yet Carbon fiber panels with honeycomb material are still in the press ... ok; between two pieces of wood with three clamps So' measured my Cornwall's (yes; very bad placement; back wall speakers) vs exciters just sitting on top of small cardboard boxes Cornwall's are "blue," exciters "brown." Obviously no "bass" from the exciters as expected, but reasonable (?) across mid-range. Any thoughts? PS, very interesting, but certainly not hi-fi (sofar)

  35. Some technical info. NXT (New Transducers Ltd) was one of the pioneers in this field. Of particular interest is their 1995 US patent https://patents.google.com/patent/US6904154 which provides quidelines for panel size and exciter locations. Recommended panel sizes are 1.134/1, 1.37/1 and 1.41/1. Exciter locations on 4/9th, 3/7th and 5/13th (x/y locations should not use the same node line for x,y). Preferred exciter mounting is on a fixed frame with the exciter then being glued to the panel. Interesting because I've read hundreds of pages on various forms ... 99.9% of people just use scrap pieces of wood or foam and slap an exciter onto it ... guessing at sizes and locations ... it is utterly amazing that they still seem to get decent results OK; waiting for my stuff to arrive

  36. https://critesspeakers.com/heresy-slant-risers.html there you go. Maybe not as pretty as the Klipsch risers but my Heresy III didn’t come with stands as I bought them through the Klipsch Museum sale. However, they are signed, “Chief Bonehead” and that has to be worth something !

  38. invasive plant that causes 3rd-degree burns, permanent blindness discovered in Virginia Fox News•June 17, 2018 Invasive plant that causes 3rd-degree burns, permanent blindness discovered in Virginia More Officials in Virginia are warning residents to be on the lookout after an invasive plant was found Tuesday in the northern part of the state that can cause third-degree burns and even permanent blindness. The Massey Herbarium at Virginia Tech said in a Facebook post that 30 giant hogweed plants were discovered in Clarke County, located between Winchester and Leesburg. The plant contains a very toxic sap, that when combined with sun exposure, can cause severe health hazards. "In brief, the sap prevents your skin from protecting itself from sunlight, which leads to a very bad sunburn," according to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. "Heat and moisture (sweat or dew) can worsen http://www.foxnews.com/health/2018/06/17/invasive-plant-that-causes-3rd-degree-burns-permanent-blindness-discovered-in-virginia.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+foxnews%2Fhealth+(Internal+-+Health+-+Text)

  39. Correct, there were 70 pairs made. They ship in two pieces. (mid/tweet and Woof). At ~180 lbs this saves the back. These boys have hit the buffet once too often. Makes my 1999's Scala' feel like a feather. Since keeping these 70th Anniversary as twins is imperative, the match is in transit toot sweet.... Pallet took a beating as can be seen.
