My go to scene for a demo for non atmos surround sound is in the first Jurassic Park when the trex is chasing the smaller dinosaurs and young Timmy says they are flocking this way. This scene on Blu-ray will rock a 5.1 or 7.1 setup. Every channel is very active.4 points

"Flight of the Phoenix" dust storm/crash scene. By far one of the best for LFE scenes as well as surround realism. My go to demo scene for the last decade. Link below is geared toward LFE content but many apply in the surround sound thing also. http://data-bass.ipbhost.com/topic/12-the-low-frequency-content-thread-films-games-music-etc/ Bill3 points

I did the OTR for a while and hated it, love working local and home every night. I work for a small outfit that does a wide variety of different jobs, been pulling containers this past couple weeks but do a lot of end dump and side dump work. Was flatbedding crushed cars a couple weeks ago, always changing up do I don't get bored with the job and I make pretty good money too.3 points

That bothers me, too. Changes are fine, but it is too easy for a reader to infer that some speakers are badly in need of an upgrade, because "upgrade" is the word that is often used by DIY folk when making changes. There was a discussion on another forum about whether the Klipschorn could still be considered a good speaker. The majority said yes, but a number said something to the effect that it must be bad because of all the "upgrades" people install. As our Queen Emeritus once said, Klipsch has the measurement facilities, including the revolving door anechoic chamber, etc. I'm not denying that some of the changes might be an improvement; Klipsch themselves has made at least 12 changes in the Khorn from 1963 on (by my count), including one in the last few months. That would be an average of one change every 4.7 years, although they often came in clusters. A somewhat similar thing happens in home remodeling. Too often people are merely conforming to whatever the newly touted style is, then calling it an upgrade (light colored kitchen cabinets, open plan design, white rugs, blindingly white interiors, etc.).3 points

For sale: Pair of McIntosh MC30 amplifiers, consecutively serial numbered (6E570, 6E571). These amplifiers were acquired in identical condition that you see here, some 10 or so years ago, and rebuilt by Craig Ostby (NOSValves) in Michigan, using Russian military PIO capacitors. Condition: While the pics do mostly speak for themselves, they are in very good condition, with two notable flaws. The original owner, as was commonplace in the era of production, engraved his personal ID number on them as "theft prevention", a convention of the day. They do have a slight bit of pitting on the top plating (again, as I acquired them) and have been lovingly preserved ever since. They appear as strikingly good in person as they do in the photos, with near perfect transformers, lettering, connection/control panels, and even the interior metal looks pristine. One other note re: condition - the sockets are as snug and "new feeling" as any vintage amp I have ever handled (including a number of MC30s) - it is my opinion that these had very little actual play prior to my ownership - and I have not used them a great deal as I have another pair of these. With home remodeling projects in the works and their relative lack of use, we have decided to offer these for sale here. These amplifiers are offered with the tubes you see. RCA blackplate 6L6GC (matched quad), Tele 12AX7 smoothplates in all appropriate slots, RCA blackplate single wing 12BH7, and RCA/Baldwin long greyplate 12AU7. As these amplifiers have always been most deserving of the vintage era tubes like you see here, I wish for the new owner to enjoy the sonics as these tubes provide. I will also give the eventual new owner access to backup tube stock for these if desired, at an additional cost. I have used these amplifiers for the month prior to this listing, to assure their proper operation, and to enjoy them for one final round before parting with them. Delivery: I really, really, really do not want to ship these, as I wish to make 100% sure they arrive to you in the condition you see here. As such, I offer a special proposition first: I will hand deliver these amplifiers to any location within eight hours' drive of my home in western IL. This includes most locations in MN, WI, IL, IA, MI, IN, OH, MO, NE, KY.....and might stretch that a little further. I know well how to pack them - but just prefer not to risk it. Had personal bad experience in this area and my hand delivery is much more risk free. If you're more distant - and you'll work with me as to not risk the couriers (meet in the middle/halfway??) I would work with you in that scenario too. Price: $3500 delivered as seen, with tubes shown, as described re: delivery. PIcs forthcoming.2 points

........when I'm driving and I drive a lot being as I do it for a living in big rigs. So I had a profound thought today, if you played Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells on a tube amp with Klipsch Belles it would be totally tubular belles. I'd bet some one here probably has. lol2 points

So i was able to get them all in late last night. Crazy Heavy. This morning I had them set up for an initial testing. made a few adjustments. Different sound with that big Bass Horn. More and deeper base, no subs connected yet. Initial thoughts are this is going to be a game changer. For now, I have my 402/510 set up with the MWM's. I have a set of 402's that I bought and never set up about 4 years ago. I also have a contingent of different drivers as well. K69's, 1133's and 1132's. These may end up being a two way's yet. I just don't know. I just need to more time with them to see. I honestly don't know what I am going to do with the Jubilee Bins yet. I guess its a good problem to have. They are a lot larger when you get them in your room, that's for sure. But thumbs up wife said they looked good!!! its a cleaner look that what I had before. Back to work, I have a mess of speakers to get cleaned up. F20, old centre, jubilee bins, and some tunes to play. First world problems... I heard about those comparisons with MWM's, and Jubilee's. I get it now. My centre channel is not set up yet, need more gear for that...2 points

It is hard for me to fathom that too, I will agree my copy of four isn't perfection. But my Houses of the Holy, Presence, and the antithetical brown bagged LP sound pretty good, So did Physical Graffiti. But from the same era Eric Clapton's 461 Ocean Blvd. an original pressing I have makes an unbelievable soundstage with excellence in every aspect of the sound in this 12 X 12 room with the full sized slab of latex between the Forte IIIs, wool on the floor, and a dresser in the way !!2 points

I sure don't miss the 55 mph days but I can still get into trouble if not careful, the T-800 I spend most of my time in is a 70 mph truck, we have a couple that will run 80+. I'm pretty careful where I let it all hang out, there's places out here in the far west where you can really haul especially if you know where the speed traps are. I haven't had a ticket in 10 years (knock on wood).2 points

Spoiler alert! Near the beginning of The Grey there is a plane crash from the passengers' point of view. We only have 5.1, with the surround speakers somewhat behind our heads, rather than directly to the sides as some people do. This creates a better sound image in our room: During that scene there is sound all around us, with the kind of detail we might expect from many more channels, rather than 5.1. There were a minimum of 3 phantom channels down each side of the room, between the Right Front and the Surround Right, and Left Front and Surround Left, about 2 phantoms in the back of the room, as well as the usual 7 or so across the front of the room. So, counting physical + phantom, there were about 15 sound loci. There was even a suggestion of up and down, mostly up (all of out speakers have tweeters slightly above ear level). It sounded like we were surrounded by metallic walls, ceiling and floor which were breaking apart. So far, no other movie has provided such a convincing illusion in our room. Holding the room and seating constant, the most important factor in providing how good the surround is would be how it is recorded, IMO. Some recordists and mixers take great pains to make sure it's good, others don't seem to care. Others will suggest films with good surround treatment of music. Amadeus, Shakespeare in Love, Bohemian Rhapsody, the first crowd sounds at the very beginning of A Star is Born (2018) come to mind. There are a few other things that may be different about our set-up. Because we have Klipschorns, the Right Front and Left Front speakers are placed in the corners, as opposed to the way they are shown in the diagram. The Klipschorns are 13.5 feet apart, tweeter to tweeter (16.75 feet wide, sidewall to sidewall). The front soundstage is a little wider, partly due to the surrounds and the Klipschorns painting the side walls with sound (sometimes). We sit about 12 feet from the center speaker, making the sound field just about 60 degrees wide. The 13.5 width doesn't conflict with the visual image width, because our projection screen is 130" wide ('scope 2.35:1). The center speaker (a modified Belle Klipsch) has had its distance electronically adjusted to the same distance as the Klipschorns by Audyssey (which does that in terms of time of arrival, down to 0.1 foot). The tweeters of the surrounds are a few inches higher than the front tweeters.2 points

We don't talk about what we have done. Hauled produce for a short... That truck would haul ash...Conventional Pete... I think it had a 450 Cummins.. 70 was idling The truck that went AZ to IL was a cabover Freightliner with a whopping 290 Cummins and a 10speed. 67 mph... off a cliff with a tail wind. random association Does bob-tailing a cabover give you the willys?1 point

Nope not an owner I just drive the same truck most of the time ('07 KW T-800/CAT twin turbo c15 Acert/18 speed) and I'm paid hourly which is another thing I like about this job. I don't sweat it when I get caught in traffic or have other delays, that said I'm not one of those lazy hourly guys I bust *** and run hard,61.75 hours this week and 69 hours last week. The boss appreciates my work ethic and treats me pretty well not to mention I'm one of if not the highest paid driver he has. Most weeks are somewhere in the 50-60 hour range, weekends are usually optional but I work quite a few Saturdays to support my hobbies like Harleys hotrods and buying stereo gear such as the Klipschorns I just picked up. lol I get in other trucks once in a while depending on what needs to be done and who else is working what job etc.etc..1 point
