  1. 1. You're already a Klipsch fan. 2. You have a large space to fill, and have the room for a large speaker-lucky you. 3. You like dynamics and impact. Get the LaScala's and try hard to wipe the smile off your face.

  3. Or Klipschorns or Klipsch Jubilees Turn up the bass about 3 to 6 dB and play either of these at concert level, and you will experience a whole new definition of impact and dynamics. As I've said way too many times, with the timpani, Tam-Tam, bass drum, etc. on the Crystal Clear direct-to-disk version of "Fanfare for the Common Man" (Copland) on my K4lipschorns can cause a breeze strong enough to flap the pants legs of guests, levitate the couch, and throw my desk out of square (really -- temporarily). In my 4,000 ++ cu. ft. room this takes about 45 watts per speaker and the peaks read about 110 dB on my meter.

  5. Okay so this will be kinda long winded but here goes. I have been putting my system together a piece at a time over the last 3 months or so. Picked up these items in order Denon avrx4400h New SVS pb13 Ultra Lightly used 3 yrs warranty left Emotiva XPA3 Gen3 Lightly used 3 yrs warranty l Pair of Klipsch RF7iii's New A stock Klipsch rc64iii New A stock Sony X700 4k blu ray New Got the Sony probably 2 weeks ago and have been dying to hook it up and give it a listen. But I wanted to make sure I had some sort of surge protection before I did so. I researched as much as I could and came up with the Panamax m5300pm as the piece I was gonna buy. On my lunch today I went to Best Buy to pick up the Panamax that I was expecting to pay $479.99 for on sale. I get there and they have it for $431.99 I was thinking to my self amazing I just saved $50. After a pretty decent wait and no help I went looking for someone outside of the Magnolia center. I found a kid and continued to ask some more comparison questions between the 5400,5300,and 5100 models. Still came up with the conclusion that the 5300 is the way to go. The guy takes me to have someone in n the Magnolia center to check inventory and wonderful they are out😡😡😡😡😡. The guy says you can drive to another store across town and pick it up but I literally have zero time besides my lunch break which was pretty much over between now and Tuesday morning when we leave for Hawaii. And of course I am itching very badly to get this system hooked up. I start looking again at the 5100 and 5400 which the 5100 does not have what I want and the 5400 is $168 more on sale also for $599.99 instead of $799.99 regular price. Now I am getting kinda agitated which the guy can see. I explain the whole time crunch thing and so I asked him is there anything we can do price wise on the 5400. The employee says let me see what I can do I will go ask my manager. He comes back with well good news I told him your scenario and he said he would do the 5400 for $500 for you. I was like well hell I came here and was planning on spending $480 anyways so an extra $20 heck yes I will do that. So long story ends in I will finally get too set up my system this weekend. Sorry for the very long story but wanted to give a big shout out to the Best Buy here in Park Meadows in Lone Tree Colorado. Now I need to get my basement finished so I can get the rear and side speakers purchased.

  7. Correct again, good King Friday! I haven't seen the documentary. I have watched the PBS commercial on this many times. And many times with tears in my eyes over the profound understanding by this man of our little ones. I watched Mr. Roger's with my son when he was a child. And now my beautiful grandaughter is just SO enamored with Daniel Tiger. I was surprised and elated to see that during the years that I did not watch, the great Mister Roger's Neighborhood morphed that little trolley into Daniel's life of friends, learning and good deeds. I will watch with my family as many times as opportunity allows. It never fails to make me feel very, very good.

  9. zero impact just make sure the cap has a secure glue line all the way around so that they are air tight and forget about them, they face the wall so you won't be reminded, this is 100% visual and not a sonic concern at all.

  12. Used Heritage speakers such as La Scala and Klipschorn (Khorns) are a tremendous audio bang-for-the-buck. They have held up very well over time. I have owned both. FYI both are now gone due to low WAF. If you list your location we have forum members who are amazing at finding deals. Welcome to the Klipsch Forums. If you are a Klipsch fan, you've come to the right place. Here is my Heritage Prices spreadsheet, good for research. Run your mouse over any cell with a red triangle to see my detailed notes on condition, location, etc. Klipsch Heritage used prices ver 2019-02.xlsx

  15. We don't have many conversations on this forum about expensive electronics, or McIntosh specifically. But I have done similar upgrades to modern Mac equipment and found out I am much happier with the results as well. Something about McIntosh and Klipsch. Great combo.

  16. I remember that speech! Many years ago there was a documentary about PBS itself, and how it went through a tough time with little funding. What I remember the most is Fred Rogers in that courtroom with his soft voice and calm cadence of speech. He silenced that room with his proposal / request for PBS to get more funding. The judge said something like, "Well....who can argue with that". I still haven't seen this most recent documentary. Thanks for the reminder. I have two young sons, and Mr Rogers' explanations about the power of TV (and now internet) are so true. There is close to zero truly good content out there for young kids. Another word about Mr. Rogers, he was the same wonderful person off camera. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/time-mister-rogers-comforted-real-life What isn't said is, after the exchange with Fred Rogers, the man apologized for taking so much time and making him late to an appointment. Rogers simply said "Sometimes you're right where you need to be".

  19. I finally said good bye to General Motors after 24 years. I've had 5 surgeries in the last 8 years, and my body just can't take building trucks anymore. Probably the scariest thing I've ever done, but I did it. I'm 63, so with my pension and SS, I should be fine. Besides, my wife works full time also. I'll probably have to cut back on buying vintage tubes and speakers.....

  21. I am looking for advice on floor standing speakers. For background, my current system consists of a Denon AVR as pre-amp into a mini-DSP into Emotiva A-300 amplifier (150w/channel). My speakers are KEF Q350's with an HSU Research STF-1 subwoofer. My room is very large with a high vaulted ceiling and the living room open into my kitchen. I have a good amount of floor space and can get the speakers a couple of feet off the wall. My current setup sounds very good but based on the size of the room does not have the impact and dynamics I would like. I would like to buy some floor standers with 8-inch drivers. So I need some advice on RP-8000F vs R-820F vs used RF-7 I or II maybe depending on price. Of course, I would like to pay 820F prices but can stretch depending on what I hear. This means if I hear the advice that says definitely go with x over y I can expand my budget by saving a bit longer. These are the speakers that I THINK I want but I am very open to other advice as well. For instance, should I be looking at used La Scala's? There is a pair (late 70s unmodified) for sale near me for $1200 at the moment. To help with advice I will describe as best I can what I like. I have been a long time fan of Klipsch. My father had Forte's 30 years ago and I had KG-4s. I loved them both but it has been a really long time since I have heard either. I currently have a pair of R-15M's in my closet which I like but don't have a good use for at the moment. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on car audio over the years and have found that dynamics and impact are what really light my fire. I enjoy a forward sound with emphasized but controlled bass. I don't mind a bright top end and prefer it to a very laid back top end. Thank you in advance for any guidance.

  25. Update: So I did it. Sort of. I bought a Parasound P5 and an A23 on Craigslist at a good price. Came with upgraded power cables. The improvement in transparency with the Parasound separates is awesome. The Arcam always sounded good to me, but side by side with the Parasound it sounds somewhat muddy. I hesitate to say that because the Arcam isn’t bad. It’s just not as clean sounding. Clean is the best term. The Parasound does increase the overall brightness of the RF7s. It’s not harsh like my stock heresys were - these tweeters just go really high and I have sensitive ears somehow despite years of concerts. I may look at doing the resistor mod now (I have the resistors). It could also be with the cleaner sound I am listening a little louder than I used to. Strangely - increasing the toe in so the tweeters are pointed right at me seems to help. Maybe it has to do with wall reflections. The bass remains great. The original 7s always had bass in spades. The Parasound controls it well. Maybe a slight dip in the upper midrange compared to the Arcam. Not a smile EQ. Like one or two slider on the EQ is down a notch. Jury is still out on that. For low volume listening the Parasound smokes the Arcam. No contest. I also ordered a Bluesound node 2i. I will report on that after I have time to test it.

  28. Thank you sir! A very useful spreadsheet there. I appreciate it. BTW I live in Folsom which is a suburb of Sacramento CA. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to add that to my profile. I see no option available. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Here are the La Scala's that I saw. https://sacramento.craigslist.org/ele/d/meadow-vista-klipsch-la-scala/6851198913.html Thoughts on them? What do I need to ask/know/understand about them? The cabinets look good in these pictures. Well, I should say in good shape. I am not a fan of the old plywood look. Do La Scalas need to be set out off the wall or with the folder horn is that not that important?

  29. It's alllll about discipline. That's B's weakness. Just why I felt Izzo would win that 3rd game. I'd bet money he has blown a gasket again at practice or will blow one tomorrow just to tighten them all up. He's one heckuva coach but he can be beat. Gonna take a great offensive effort all the way around along w/a disciplined D to beat Sparty. Purdon't got lucky tonite and didn't lose the game in regulation. Painter's not near the coach Izzo is although he's made great strides @ Purdon't since he's been there.

  39. Ha, I have had my CF3's now, for over 17 years. If I bought both, the spare would be just sitting in the garage, taking up space and collecting dust for the next 10 years or more, most likely. I am generally not a keeper of the unnecessary and would rather see someone using it during that time. It would be a most formidable center channel at any price, let alone for $300 bucks.😀

  42. Love seeing the BFM sub builds. I put together a THT a few years ago. I would describe it much like M_Klipsch did. It just sounds like my La Scala bass bins now dig down to 25hz or so. Totally seamless horn loaded bass. The only downside as far as I can see is that they are rather large. I built mine in my basement, and it can't ever leave! Will have to sell it with the house.

  43. I think the rationale why electrolytics are considered tolerable in L.P. is that the signal isn't going through them to the driver, if that's what you were questioning... As to another point I understood you to've made, I agree, use the best you can everywhere.

  44. I just bought a pair new from Fry's (free shipping) for less than $200 so it's very possible to score a pair used for $100. Who knows he may have got them from some outlet type seller for way less than I paid. They are great sounding speakers for their size. I am very impressed with them.

  45. This thread and what you said made me think of an experience I had about 25 years ago. There are by far more things we don't know about than we do. I once witnessed something that should not be, a ghost for lack of a better word. It was about 10' away and it took about 6-8 steps and went into another room. Not just a shadow or a dark spot but a person, just not exactly quite as clear or solid as a person but still with detail to know the gender, dress, hair, and size. I know it sounds crazy, but when you see something like this you quickly realize how little we really know about what's around us. To me, it made the question about soul have added thoughts, was that a soul or just something left behind from the process of death. How many are there like that and why they at rare times can be seen? When you see something like this you forever think about dying in a different way, it at least makes you know something positively happens besides just a body dying. What happens I have no clue like everyone else. It only happened once and I am not crazy, or that crazy anyway, I did immediately look in the room and nothing was there. ?
