  1. Haven't listened to them in such a long time... Now into the show @ Red Rocks, which came up after... Love that place... Santana was incredible in there a couple years ago. Thankies JohnJ!

  2. I've been a Klipsch lover for decades and about 5 years ago I scored a set of Decorator K-horns with raw birch finish ... I had finally reached Klipschdom! I have been making incremental upgrades to the speakers with ALK CSW crossovers, Eliptrac HF horns with B&C DE10's and Crites cast woofers. I decided to finally make them pretty to live up to the sound. Veneer is composite Rosewood, backs painted satin black and K-400 painted with rubberized bedliner. Enjoy the pics!

  3. Another cool evening, spring is spastic this month. Listen to this and imagine where on earth it could have been recorded. Then think VanZant, Rossington & Collins. That big curve on I-95, until maybe the last time they messed with it.

  6. I went to grad school in Tucson. Moved there after working in Alaska and just about died at first. Everything there wants to hurt you - it's all either sharp and pointy or poisonous. First time walking through the desert, I swore colla cactus balls could actually jump and attack. By the time I left though I could mostly avoid trouble and was totally in love with the Sonoran Desert. It was hard to leave.

  7. Probably not much here in your line work. The major industries are agriculture, mining, forestry, a few petroleum refineries, there's an Air Force base, and the universities. Wages fall well below the national average and housing is expensive - here in Bozeman it's something like 140% of the national average. WillyBob and his friend are right, living in northern climates isn't for everyone - you have to buy two of everything - summer and good winter clothes, two sets of tires for your car, a good snowblower and lawnmower, high heating and a/c bills. You pretty much have to drive anywhere (even around town) and air travel is expensive. But it's home, it's pretty, it's relatively uncrowded, and I like it.

  8. Okay, Claude, I finished my Super Heresy project on the old Heresy 1's I found. Kept the tweeter and squawker, and did all the other mods you suggest...woofer, egg packing, fiberglass, and ports and converted the crossover from C to B. Just finished today. The wife did the renew of the surface...these were shabby looking suckers before she did her magic. Course I was up to my old trick of not taking before pics. Anyway, one of the little Heresy's shows in the picture. Recovered fronts with Crites cloth. Moved the tweeter and squawker up one number on the autotransformer, as well, as was suggested.. They sound fabulous! Clarity of upper frequencies is startling. Bass is excellent. Your mods make these little dudes rival anything I have. I won't be going back into them and changing anything. Was obvious with only one playing of Chris Stapleton's "Outlaw State of Mind"!

  22. Sorry, but I would regard the "allow 72 hours for precessing before contacting the vendor" to be more of a suggestion than a rule. ..And I would ignore the suggestion. If it were me, after giving them over $5K, I'd reach out to them the very next day to make sure all seems kosher. ..Just my $.02

We have great weather for making jerky and mummies you see the ones "in process" working in the middle of the day, outdoors. Siesta isn't lazy ... it is smart

  25. The argument for smaller drivers delivering more punch is just not true. A well designed 15" will be better than an equally designed 12". A larger cone area can be lighter, therefore more efficient, having less distortion and the ability to move more air. Smaller drivers must be heavier to have the same amount of punch or low-end reach of a larger driver. Find yourself a really well designed 18" woofer and you won't ever say a 6,8,12, etc. has more punch.

  32. You want some serious punchy bass, look no further. Now with that said, both a 12" and 15" can have punchy bass. It's all in the design, quality, and how it is tuned. Bill

  36. I do not use the Audyssey even though I have done a calibration in the last week. I can get far superior sound by using the built in equalizers and input levels combined with the speaker levels in this AVR. This is the most versatile AVR I've ever had and the sound options are almost endless.

  37. Can you provide a picture? If you're saying what I think you're saying, the Khorns belong in corners. It's how they were designed and how they work best.
    1 point
  38. While the Polks are a fine speaker The Khorns will be so much better. Your Polks being a very large speaker, require gobs of power to sound their best. It's just the opposite for the Klipsch. You'll need to get them set up and experiment a little until you start to get used to their sound so you can dial them into the room to sound their best. They're horn loaded Bass--The Polks are Direct Bass. There is a difference--give it time.

  39. You should replace the Polk with the Klipschorns. Rearrange your living room if you have to. Sticking them unused into storage would be a travesty to your ears.

  40. Another thing to note - just remembered this while recalling how my RF-3 XO's looked when I replaced them... Even if you did bi-wire - you're still running them into the same passive XO. You are not sending 60 W to the tweeter and 60 W to the woofer. You're sending a straight 120 to the speaker - period. The problem with that is for you to hear any difference in sound pressure, you need 2x the watts, which you don't get because you dropped the single line per channel from 75 to 60 when you bi-wired. At most you'd get an extra 2dB of sound pressure, which you will not hear. 1 W of power with your RF-7's produce 101 dB of sound pressure. 2 W produces 104 dB 4 (5) W produces 107 dB 8 (10) W produces 110 dB 16 (15) = 113 dB 32 (30) = 116 dB 64 (65) = 119 dB 128 (130) = 122 dB 256 (250) = 125 dB MAX 512 (500) = 128 dB 1024 (1000) = 131 dB PEAK

  42. Well, it was only a hit for two years! And you forgot to mention what the center that was "timbre matched" for the first two years of the CF-4. That rhetorical, you don't have to answer. There might not even be an answer, I have no idea. +++ Let me make a point; OK, maybe a couple of points. I do know the KV-4 was designed for the CF-4, but "timbre matched?" I doubt it. They did share the same K-63-KN compression driver but the CF-4 has dual 12's, the KV-4 dual 8's. If you run a pink noise across the CF-4's and KV-4 I think the sound would be very different. They are supposed to be, they do different jobs. If you have a set of crappy front speakers, "timbre matching" the matching crappy center isn't doing to sound good. A center speaker that is high quality will sound good because it sounds good. I am not a big fan of "timbre matched." I am a fan of "get the best center speaker you can find." The principle job of a center is accurately reproduce the male and female voice. If the sound is accurate, it will sound good with nearly any L/R speakers you are likely to find. My bottom advice/opinion to @twk123 is to get the best sounding center within the budget. When choosing between two excellent sounding centers, it will sound good. It's always good to have conflicting opinions so raise different issues. Food for thought.

  47. The devil is in the details. Sure, if you are the only one using your own crop then the scenario works fine. But Johnny Joe at the fraternity who throws a party and offers his own homegrown killer extravaganza buzzmonster for the gang could be a real problem. Little Jenny has had her pot before and partakes with an expectation of a manageable level of intoxication and the next thing she knows there are all sorts of new colors and nothing comes into focus. How can you draw the line? IMHO if we want MJ legal it needs to come packaged in edible forms with reproducible levels of intoxication. If the intake cannot be guaranteed then the consequences cannot be either. While levels of intoxication can vary per person due to size, weight and tolerance most all edibles in "Green Cross" stores are clearly marked for THC amount and graded by level. High quality cannabis is actually very difficult to cultivate and the chance of a frat bro coming close to what commercial growers can produce in CO is very slim and even then there are natural limits. (I will concede though that home made edibles can vary quite a bit and be much stronger than intended.) The last time I visited CO we went to a store and they were very clear on what edibles had what strength and made suggestions due to our tolerance etc. The significant difference however between alcohol is that I can drink far too much and end up dying of alcohol poisoning but it is virtually impossible to OD on Cannabis. You may be uncomfortable for a few hours or pass out but there wont be any long term effects. Another thing to mention regarding smoking/vaping and overall intoxication is that the effects are almost immediate so they strain may be stronger but consequently you smoke less as opposed to alcohol where you can down two Long Island Ice Teas and be wasted without even realizing it. The actual reason both Cannabis and Hemp are illegal is similar to the article posted above but it actually has more to do with Industrial hemp. In the 1930s a new machine was invented that could rapidly process the hemp plant into textile material and it threatened the Forestry and synthetic fabric industries (Nylon was invented in 1935) so the likes of DuPont used their influence to lump Hemp with Cannabis (Marijuana is actually a totally different plant) and created the whole "Reefer Madness" and "Black Men are going to use it and attack your White Women" ridiculousness. Industrial Hemp could have and still can drastically improve American domestic production as shown by this Popular Mechanics article from 1938: http://www.hempfarm.org/BillionDollarCrop.html
