  1. Wife and kids dress-up Luke & April every Halloween, Thanksgiving and Xmas. The dogs seem to enjoy it for a while, then later on in the evening they come to me looking for relief. This is April celebrating the delivery of her new bed. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

  2. Long week since I got involved in really applying what I learned in this thread. Got the new XP4080 installed. What a nice unit, the noise floor on this thing is ridiculous....totally quiet as best I can tell. I found out through much trial and error that each crossover point, type, and slope you pick affects the outcome of the GD and spectrogram. I then had to re-work the timing and at times polarity. I did set one of the presets to the Danley style no-crossover crossover. Sounds really good upon a cursory listen. I have spent so much time working on this I had to take a break. For now, the system sounds really good. I have to admit that I didn't even run Audyssey! Frankly, don't plan on it. I got my bass back by doing the tuning manually. I was always aware that Audyssey Pro messed with my Bass too much and this is proof. Once again, thank you Chris for all your help! I really like having full control of the entire system and how it sounds.

  3. I have to imagine you'll be waiting for quite a while on the used market. I certainly have no intention of ever ripping mine out.

  5. Find a restored Fisher 400/500C tube receiver, or an HH Scott integrated tube amp. You should easily be able to find a nice restored piece for your budget.

  7. I know. It's just that every time I've bought a new TV I've always went up in both picture quality and size. I guess a trip to Best Buy is in order to actually see them in person.

  11. Went to Sedona recently and it was in the 30's at night. We were in our RV and I had the heat set at 67 or so. Chilly, but nice with a few blankets. That is our limit.

  14. People that tag their "for sale" listings with things that don't even come close to representing what you're looking for. To all of the people that put their POS Blose speakers or any other garbage with a Klipsch tag, a big F off. I just sent another reply to an offender just really letting them know what I think about them. So how's your day going and what really lit your fire today?

  15. Klipsch Professional KI-396 SMAIIs in excellent condition. I have boxes and packing materials for them. They work great for both home theater and 2 channel. I currently still have 3 as the front of my home theater. I thought I would use these as rears but they are just too big. SOLD

  16. There are several key factors in your decision making. How large is your room? How loud do you listen to your music? I say go with the 8000s unless you listen to your music very loud or have a huge room. I had RP-280s for 2 weeks (pretty much the same as the 8000, the 8000 is the newer model) and the 280s were really impressive. I found a great deal on rosewood Cornwall 3s and purchased them and returned the 280s. I never read a single poor review of the RP-280s anywhere. When you get to a certain level of high fidelity, there are diminishing returns on sonic improvement for the cash outlay. I could have been quite happy with the 280s, but the rosewood veneer CWs are something really special, both visually and to the ears. You listen to some of the old hands here and they will tell you short of Jubilees or the Klipsch commercial speakers, you are settling short. I don't feel that way at all. Not everybody has a huge room, or listens to their music beyond 85-90 db sound level, or has unlimited resources. Not every member here needs Jubes or commercial product to be content with their home music reproduction. I know I don't. Just my opinion.

  17. I agree with the Cornwall selection as Cornwalls will reproduce down to 30 hz. But I disagree on the "very little music below 40 hz". A standard piano will generate sounds to 25 hz on the low end, so will electronic synthesizers utilized in a lot of pop and rock music. Not to mention a pipe organ will go to 20/25 hz too. To limit one to a full range loudspeaker with a low frequency cutoff of 50-60 hz is silly, if you want to hear all of the music. Shoot even my Elac debut 6.2 bookshelf speakers I use at my desktop pc will play down to 35-40 hz.

  18. Although I am fond of bigger speakers, I will agree with jimjimbo on the Heresy IIIs, except, if you are wanting to go the SET route, the Cornwalls might work better. I have used a pair of 2A3 SET amps on my Heresy II speakers with great satisfaction, but extreme volume gets a bit soft. The SET amps work great on La Scalas and the other fully horn loaded cabinets, though. Bruce

  19. One would think that, in this modern age of online purchasing with delivery, that the delivery services would have perfected their procedures to make things like this very rare. Instead I see reports of egregiously smashed shipments from every one of them. In my case, the manufacturer is in Springfield, IL and I'm near Saint Louis, MO -- about a 1½ hour drive. If the loudspeaker is repairable, I believe I'll hand-deliver it to the manufacturer, rather than risk yet another delivery and opportunity to smash it even more.

  21. Jubilee bashorns you say, hmm. They must take up larger foorspace than a pair of Khorns? I´m all set for selling my La Scalas and try to fin a "real" pair of Khorns. They are out there. I think it will not be worth the hassle to build them. If I would deside to try to sell Khorn clones I think they will be poorly recieved on the market. A fun build thou. But Jubilee is a different animal... They are not to be found in my region. But they look huge, I don´t think I have corners for them to fit nicely. For now, this weekend I will get my dream amp, McIntosh Mc275. Will connect it to either my Forte 1 or my Chorus II, depending on who sounds the best. My Chorus is on a remake. Previous owner painted them black, a nice walnut speaker haha. So, after sanding I will oil them. Hopefully I will have them up and running next weekend. I think they will look the part. So exited haha.

  24. Consumer lines only: Best Jubilee preferrably bi-amped and EQd-- see Chris A's posts Klipschorn AK 4, AK5, (AK6?). La Scala II, III (II and III probably better?) or Belle Klipsch (all need a subwoofer -- in my room, below 60 Hz). Consider a horn loaded subwoofer to preserve tight, clean bass. Forte III Heresy III, IV, probably IV is best, with a subwoofer Top of the Reference or Reference Premiere line. Worst (but still good) All have clear, low distortion midrange and treble, high dynamic range, sensitivity ranging from high to extremely high. Those with horn loaded bass (Jubilee, Klipschorn, La Scala II and III, and Belle Klipsch) also have clean, low distortion bass. There is nothing as clean in the bass as well designed horn loading. All could probably use some EQ, especially a slight midrange cut and some judicious bass boost. In general, they are noted for clarity, openness, high dynamic range as well as good microdynamics, excellent brass and percussion. They may not be as smooth ("flat") in frequency response as some (usually more expensive) "audiophile" speakers, but those same "audiophile" speakers sometimes sound veiled by comparison. Your own ears, in your own room, should be your final judge. Listen with a great variety of program material. Buy with a return privilege.

  31. There are three different class specifications for bluetooth implementations, with the class 2 spec being the most widely implemented for household goods (headphones, speakers, etc.). The Class 2 spec calls for transmitting at 2.5mW and has a maximum range of 10 meters or roughly 33 feet. If you need more range you can look into getting a bluetooth repeater.

  32. Overall, this pretty much sums it up so that's the route I went. I did want to see if others might have done something basic in another room for my comparison purposes. But at the end of the day, I kept it simple. I already had an older Yamaha surround receiver that I used to use in the garage in our other house so I tucked that in the lower cabinet and used a BTMagic device I had bought on an Amazon deal awhile back that has Optic input and output. So, it works like a champ and sounds great on a pair of a/d/s L300C bookshelf speakers. WE had two older Samsung Tab 8 tablets so I delegated one of those to use for connection to the BT receiver and set the volume on the receiver to a certain "limit" and the tablet controls the main volume. Easy peasy. One day, I might still get a smaller amp versus a larger full size receiver but, for now, there will be tunes in the living room. Now to figure out why my Dish Hopper 3's BT output isn't connecting to it so TV output can work. Thanks again for everyone's input.

  43. I love this chart, especially PWK's description of the various sound levels. (For those interested, Dope-from-Hope (Vol.16, No. 1). I haven't heard everything there is to hear, but I've heard a lot... and I remain convinced that a properly designed and implemented horn is as-good-as-it-gets. Never confuse a bad implementation of an otherwise good idea with a bad idea. [ Thank You, PWK ]

  44. I have a pair of custom KI-362's (same cabinet and woofer as the 396's) and bass seems plentiful to me, very similar to the Chorus 1's maybe a little tighter / faster but they seem to reach just as low and I don't feel the need for a sub at all. Bass guitar and drums sound real like they're in the room with great impact. I would be curious to see what could be done to extend the low end if a simple EQ tweak could make a significant change without sacrificing sound quality it may very well be worth while I suppose.
