    • I look at this as both SS and tubes having their advantages and disadvantages.  I like them equally since I have been running them together for the last 4 years.    Tubes advantage: wide dynamic dress up a system punchy SS advantage: Cheaper on average less maintenance, less money and not as likely to kill yourself, lol. multiple sound field are possibel and multiple channels It's important to match the amp to the gear for the intended application to get the most out of the equipment.  Tubes can add coloration to the source material.  If you are looking for pristine reproduction, then tubes may not be for you.  If you like the warmth and the ability for clarity at low levels, then a tube system is what you want.
    • Another 70's great gone.    RIP Mr. Lake.
    • Building a pair of LS now  - doing the hard part - doghouse.  Using 1" BB ply throughout.   I did a test cut on the roof top (toe end) of the doghouse and the front toe joint isn't meeting properly.  I measured and there is a "bow" in joint where the two pieces meet.  Towards the middle of the front joint the boards are "narrower" than than at the top and bottom of the joint.   All the test parts  are square and I used a slid jig I built (which is square)  and made sure the piece was vertical on my tablesaw before clamping to the heavy jig which was flush with my rip fence.  I've attached a few pics below.    The "1 BB isn't easy to cut and I took it slow (maybe not slow enough and pushed the jig all the way through the blade.     I'm probably not describing this well and will take a pic tonight of the rooftop joint.     I just looked at the photo and noticed there may be a slight tilt toward the blade because the orange blade cover insert isn't flush with the table top.  Not sure that would make the scoop, but could increase slightly increase the cut angle if at the beginning and end of the cut when the jig isn't straddling the blade insert?   I will flush the blade insert tonight with the table top and see if that helps as well as making a preliminary cut then second final cut.    Anyone have this problem and know about a fix??   I'm thinking maybe I should an initial cut then make s second cut where I only slice of 1/8"-1/4" to hopefull get smoother straight rooftop edges.  All responses are appreciated.
    • Oh, Chris.  It's all in the production quality, not the bits.  Quality production work in redbook format preserves the decay of notes as well as any hi res format can.  But that's neither here nor there.   Here is a paper that dives into all of this (transconductance amps, not the hi res debate) that others may find interesting: https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-01103598/document  and another: http://sound.whsites.net/z-effects.htm
    • For the RTM thread I just copy the album covers from the internet and past.  This keeps form getting a lot of attachment.
    • Klipsch "The One" Heritage Wireless.  Looks good, sounds good.
    •   Have you had your coffee yet this morning??   It don't take much at the lowest frequencies to get those cones to move a significant amount, I'd cross them over at 40-50hz at least and let the sub do the rest.
    • I received The One from UPS today.  Used the bluetooth and also tried a Chromecast Audio plugged into the aux port. Naturally, the Chromecast sounded clearer and more defined.    The One really looks good, the wood is exactly what I wanted. I choose the Ebony finish to match the woodwork on the furniture in the bedroom. The grill material is similar to the material on my Heresy.     Sounds really good for a bluetoooth speaker.  It sounds similar to the KMC-1, but with more bass.  Just received it, so I expect it to sound better once I get a few hours on it.   Think I'll be happy with my purchase.
    • Yes, I have done this myself with a KLF-30 woofer, it is caused by being over-extending the cone where the coil tube comes out past the magnet gap. I was able to get mine to go back in the gap and move freely again but it had a horrible scratching sound afterwards. This is ultimately why I prefer the Chorus over the KLF-30, parts are weak and they don't play as loud. I would definitely recommend checking your crossover settings and cutting out the lower frequencies to these speakers to prevent further damage.
